So uh, did anyone try watching that Seth Rogan/Sarah Silverman show "Santa Inc." Seems like it's one of the worst reviewed shows ever

While it's clear this would definitely not appeal to everyone, I don't think it's actually appealing to anyone...

Anyone here tried to watch it?

checking some of the writers previous credits helps to answer why this is a stinker, and on top of that the prospect that Rogen and Silverman could have tried to improvise some of the comedy too

Didn't even know it existed until reading this thread.

Haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Two Jewish people making a shock comedy about a holiday loosely associated with a religion they have absolute contempt for, what could go wrong.

I am looking forward to Mel Gibson's next animated movie on Hanukkah.
With these criticisms it's obviously all about the movie.

Remember Kids, always blame someone else if you made a shitty movie/show. Also works if you just shot someone.

How has this become the norm?

Ghostbusters (2016)
He Man
Cowboy Bebop Netflix

just to name a few. Practically all of them have the creators lashing out at the fans.

Watched 12 minutes of the first episode. Dialogue was something. Some adjusting. People do sometimes talk like this casually and thought of them and myself when I do it. Then it cleaned up a bit or I did adjust after the breakfast scene. Couple of the darker jokes were good. The baby joke and Christmas light taser landed for me. Wanted to know who were the people on the board. One was dressed Catholic, which was a little funny. Protestant and atheist? Suppose they'll get to those characters later.

tldr
Right out of the gate wanted the show to end quickly. After a couple laughs will at least watch the episode out.
Unsure if will watch past the first.

Did you watch the trailer? It's garbage. It's basically a Christmas show filtered through their political views with swearing to be edgy. Why would anybody want to watch that.

Just finished the first episode.
It closed out with the main character's intent to be the first woman Santa. In the last few scenes the inclusivity humour juxtaposed against male vs female was heavy handed and forced. Maybe to get that out of the way for setting, but it didn't help with appeal.

Probably not going to watch anymore of this even with the couple earlier funny moments.

I heard a long time ago of Seth’s twitter fight with dankula, so I’m not surprised whatsoever that his work is bombing. Seems like an elitist asshole

Seth Rogan is a dude that got famous on weed and fart jokes. But now he’s old and no one laughs at his stupid jokes anymore because a 45 year old man making weed and fart jokes isn’t really funny anymore. Since the only reason people paid attention to him was because he made funny movies, he’s becoming more and more bitter about the fact he is no longer funny. Now we get to see that he’s actually just a gigantic douche which we couldn’t see because he used to distract from it by being funny.

I watched Seth Rogan play a role in one of the latest Curb Your Enthusiasm episodes and not only was his scene not funny in the slightest, it was probably the most annoying scene I’ve watched this year

So many of these old comedians don’t understand. They are and were clowns. No one is interested in a preachy clown. Tell me a joke. Be funny. That’s all we want from you. If you don’t want to do that, go away. Or at least don’t be so insufferably arrogant.
Yeah no one gives a shit what a cokehead with mental problems thinks about any subject. Might as well call up Ja Rule for advice on solving quantum gravity.

Most non woke Christmas movies are awful. Injecting woke into such a genre is... sure to fail.

I don't think this is true.

Comedians are pandering to their specific audience because that's what brings in the cash.

All the late night comedians held off from political comedy for as long as they could. The ratings always went to whomever was bashing Trump/Republicans.

Back in my day, trailers were made to get the audience excited for a show/movie. Fast forward a couple of years, Hollywood just wants to drive people away.

Remember, he's also gonna star in the Mario movie as Donkey Kong...
Imagine if all the Donkey Kong games from now on featured a non-stop accompaniment of Seth Rogen jokes:

“Candy, let’s play hide the banana.”
“I smoked way too many banana peels this morning.”

I just think that’s the audience they cultivated. When they gave Steven Colbert a late night gig, you knew the days of the Lenos and Carsons was over. Now maybe it was over anyway. But half the country was never going to watch Colbert. And that was before he became a completely unfunny hack like he is now (just watch his vaccine cover songs bit if you don’t believe me).

Another inflection point was when Jimmy Kimmel used his child’s medical condition to push for the Affordable Care Act. He got so much attention and praise for that. And it really wasn’t entertaining. It just pushed the right buttons for certain people. Which is fine, but we aren’t interested in Jimmy because he’s smart or because of his political opinions. He is an entertainer. When entertainers forget their role, they cease to be relevant.

At the end of the day, these guy all decided that the only way they could draw a consistent audience was to alienate a large % of the country. They couldn’t just be funny. They had to be funny in the “correct” way. That isn’t how funny works. In fact it’s the opposite of how funny works.

The one thing the whole woke / cancel culture thing has definitely provided, is a good excuse for people to lay the blame for their own shortcomings. Political, cultural, societal…

When you foster an environment of them vs us, it’s very easy to always blame them and not us.

This holds true for all wings of the political spectrum I would add.

We certainly seem to be losing all sense of personal responsibility.

I have zero problem with swearing or irreverent humor about Christmas, but the trailer I saw was cringe AF. Like more cringe than Ghostbusters 2016. This doesn’t seem original or funny at all, and yes blaming honest reviews on white supremacy is a complete bitch move

I watched the first episode, it's OK. I giggled and laughed well enough.
I pressed on to watch a couple more.

Second wasn't as funny as the first, so doubled down and started the third. Gotten a few laughs within the first 5 mintues

I get the sense the jokes I'm finding funny are Sarah's.

Political humour doesn't bother me, as long as it's not tirelessly patronizing. Ep 3 is more intellectually quick, multiple storylines with different characters. More gags.
