I had a launch unit that was loud. Then I bought another in August that is loud in the same exact way. It’s a mix of coil whine and fan noise.New model or old?
I'm thankful that I got an original model that is also very quiet.

Returnal has 100 times more polygons than RDR2. If you think higher pixel count is next-gen, I pity your soul.Returnal has 1/4 of the resolution of RDR2 on One X. When was there a gen where games lose so many pixels vs the past gen???
What a ridiculous and desingenous take. Then all games on Series S aren’t next-gen as well since they lose pixels compared to One X and Series X? And it’s not like they have 4K checkerboard from 1440p temporal upsampling as Returnal has. Ridiculous. Cringe, my dude.Returnal has 1/4 of the resolution of RDR2 on One X. Witcher 3 on switch vs. Ps4 is definitely a generational gap, visually speaking. As far as ports go, I mean it's a bigger difference than any dreamcast/ps2 > N64 conversion. In a world where The Witcher 3 exists on both Nintendo Switch and PS4 I don't necessarily believe "generational leap" means "impossible for the game to run on weaker hardware in some form".
I think the leap is huge and I couldn't imagine going back to them fucking gross 30fps boxes.
Did I say that? I quoted someone talking about resolution. And for sure the resolution of Crysis is not more impressive than the resolution of 007!So Crysis warhead at 1080p is less impressive than 007 nightfire at 4k?
You sound like a man that has not played returnal.
One the same hardware I would agree. But is 1/4 on a next hardware vs a 4/4 on a last gen. 1/4!!! 25%. When did that happened before?Comparing a late gen game made by a seasoned developer with an infinite budget and im sure an incredibly long development time vs an indie studio (at the time of development) on a new IP and a new genre is bizarre af
Source of that amount of polys for both? And only more polys makes stuff more next gen??Returnal has 100 times more polygons than RDR2. If you think higher pixel count is next-gen, I pity your soul.
I didn't say anything about being or not "next-gen", dude. Chill. What a ridiculous and desingenous take. It's worth pointing out here that even if red dead X1X is 4k, it uses a really, really heavy TAA that negates some of 4k's benefit, and not only that but Returnal uses a reconstruction technique to help it look cleaner than just a regular 1080p. So it definitely is not as big of a difference as you're implying, putting the apples and oranges comparison aside.Did I say that? I quoted someone talking about resolution.

I don't disagree. But my original quote was about resolution only being a next-gen factor when the opposite is happening in other games. It's worth pointing out here that even if red dead X1X is 4k, it uses a really, really heavy TAA that negates some of 4k's benefit, and not only that but Returnal uses a reconstruction technique to help it look cleaner than just a regular 1080p. Returnal is absolutely a technical jump over last gen and it does so at 60 fps.
Hard disagree. My last gen go-to console was primarily the Xbox One X, with some occasional gaming on PS4 Pro on the side.
I got myself a PS5 and a Series X a couple of months ago. I have to say, if you don't have a 120Hz monitor, my experience so far on these consoles has been pretty... meh. They feel more like One X2 and PS4 ProPro. Especially One X has spoiled with with great IQ for cross gen games.
I hope these consoles start to put out games that showcase why you need a Series X or a PS5.
What can I play on these things that will wow me? I have Forza Horizon 5 in my living room on my Series X and in my bedroom on my One X. Sure I see some difference but it's not a generational leap.
I'm not gonna lie dude, I expected 1440p minimum on ps5 this gen. Buuut in cases where the visuals impress me and it's still 60fps, I can get over it lol.I don't disagree. But my original quote was about resolution only being a next-gen factor when the opposite is happening in other games.
To start with - RDR2 is not an "effects" heavy game. 40-60K polygons at most and at 30fps on consoles. Weak.Source of that amount of polys for both? And only more polys makes stuff more next gen??
Are you comparing the amounts of polygons characters are made of? Is this the early 2000s?To start with - RDR2 is not an "effects" heavy game. 40-60K polygons at most and at 30fps on consoles. Weak.
One monster in Returnal is made of the same amount of polygons - when there's 10 monsters making a bullethell lightshow, that's around a million polygons. No game (yet) comes close to showcasing effects like Returnal - not even close.
And this changes that fact that its 1080p native how?To start with - RDR2 is not an "effects" heavy game. 40-60K polygons at most and at 30fps on consoles. Weak.

no it's not lmao that could have ran on a PS3 the rifts were like 2 feet apart smh gimmickRatchet and clank is a generational leap
If you call this early 2000's - ok?Are you comparing the amounts of polygons characters are made of? Is this the early 2000s?
With so many polygons expecting anything higher than 1080p is just plain stupidity. And this changes that fact that its 1080p native how?
i expect near perfect IQ over more polygons. I see no point in having gazillions of blurry polygons...If you call this early 2000's - ok?
With so many polygons expecting anything higher than 1080p is just plain stupidity.
As a man of culture, I enjoy tentacle porn too, but my point is that comparing polygon amounts is something we did in the early 2000s. It hasn't been a relevant comparison point in... forever. If you call this early 2000's - ok?

That statement hurts all shmups lovers out there.i expect near perfect IQ over more polygons. I see no point in having gazillions of blurry polygons...
But with Returnal it's a valid argument for why it's not running in higher resolution. As a man of culture, I enjoy tentacle porn too, but my point is that comparing polygon amounts is something we did in the early 2000s. It hasn't been a relevant comparison point in... forever.
everything you said was wrong, we barely got 60fps last gen - give your head a shake. So you're basically agreeing with me?
Nah. The thing that kills the performance in Returnal are the physicalized particles. They're expensive af.But with Returnal it's a valid argument for why it's not running in higher resolution.
True. They're also part of the polygons spectre.Nah. The thing that kills the performance in Returnal are the physicalized particles. They're expensive af.
The generational leaps the first few decades were great, you did really have to be there! Going to the toy store and seeing Super Mario Bros. for the first time, when I had a 2600 at home... Just wow. Thunder Force III on the Genesis, when the plebs were still playing NES... Downloading this ballsy new game called Doom that instantly made the SNES and Genesis look like antiquated dogshit (hey, the SNES DID get a port!)... Walking into the arcade and seeing Virtua Fighter 2... Installing that first Voodoo Card and firing up GLQuake... These youngn's have no clue, lol.In 1995 we went from this
To THIS
And I don't think you'll ever understand what that was like unless you were there and were the appropriate age.
"OK Boomer!"
I'll show myself out.
That's not a leap. Double Dragon to Street Fighter 2... Now THAT'S a fucking leap.In a world where The Witcher 3 exists on both Nintendo Switch and PS4 I don't necessarily believe "generational leap" means "impossible for the game to run on weaker hardware in some form".
I think the leap is huge and I couldn't imagine going back to them fucking gross 30fps boxes.
It really is. The geometry density, texture detail and variety, particle effects and 60fps including RT make this game a genarational leap above those mid gen upgrades. Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart opening sequence is the greatest showcase for current gen in my opinion.Ratchet and clank is a generational leap
Yeah, I'm just fine playing Ratchet and Clank at 60fps with raytracing on PS4 Pro.
