Battlefield is in Rough Shape

Yeah, beta was rough for me. Their new class system was weird and not super intuitive, in particular not using generic soldiers.

For most of the beta I was watching all the madness happen, the graphical glitches, wonky physics and thinking 'this is the same thing from the past like 4 battlefields' and I genuinely feel like it's still not better than Bad Company 2.

the game needs more time. this beta felt more like an early alpha. the menu and everything felt empty. textures dont load in sometimes, screen flickering, list goes on. this game has loads of potential but hopefully doesnt end up like bf4 did.

Honestly I loved it on both PS5 and PC. PS5 had a couple of fps drops but I didn't see a single fps issue on PC (3700X, 32Gb Ram and Radeon 6800), Yes lots of glitches across both but liked it that much that was really really disappointed that it ended Sunday morning. Apples and Oranges I guess

I love SkillUp, and I get where he's coming from, sure. But I also wouldn't go as far as saying it's in "rough shape." It wasn't the best build, oh most definitely. But we've seen games with several crashing and performance issues that still launched on day 1. In my experience this was just littered with visual bugs, but nothing that really drastically affected gameplay or otherwise. I think the worse I saw was the bizarre rubber banding that happened periodically. There were def some balance issues, etc. But those are easy adjustments/fixes as well.

It's the best of the crap trilogy releasing this holiday season.
I dunno man, I mean it's subjective, opinions and all. But a lot of people and their mom have really said some glowing things about Infinite. More than I've seen for the others. Though I'm personally looking forward to 2042 and Infinite more than Vanguard. 🤷‍♂️

Some people there deny.
I think some people just enjoyed it for what it is. It was definitely a janky and messy build. But I enjoyed its core. It just needs some TLC, which it will certainly get over time.

Fun is subjective. Don't explain people denying the problems. Probably fanboys.

I mean, the build is from July so...
lets just wait and see till release

If you watch the video, he explain that most of the Battlefield players use this as an excuse, but is pretty much close to launch for this game to get all solved.

It IS, and I think "putting up with jank" can also be pretty subjective. Doesn't necessarily equate fanboys. People saying the beta was pristine and they had "absolutely no issue" would be more questionable. But I haven't seen anyone say that. Because that'd be ridiculous, lol.

Who in their right mind would pay for a game in a state like this? I know its a Beta but there are som major flaws that cant be fixed

'Jank' is not subjective and never will be. As a fan of BF3 and BF4, I played the beta this weekend and agree with being very jank.

Fun is subjective yes, people can have 'fun' even if the game is trash or full of glitchs. I have fun with Days Gone, but the game launch with severe bugs and inconsistences, but I never deny any bugs from my career.

If you say so, but I've seen enough forums and discussion boards over the last 15+ years where people praise a game that is clearly janky AF. It most certainly happens. Hell, I've seen people do it here as well in the past few months. I wouldn't go as far as to say those people are "fanboys" per se, it just depends on their ability to converse about said issues, etc.

It's incredibly jank, no doubt about it. But there are still people that had fun with it or enjoyed it. How or why? I can't answer that, lmao. The time I had with it I enjoyed enough, but I also didn't put a ton of hours into it. I personally don't see a point in doing so if the ranks/levels I hit are all gonna be reset on day 1 anyway, so I'd rather not go in too hard.

It's okay to enjoy and love jank, hell, I love may fair share of it. I just think it's important to be able to pinpoint when something IS and ISN'T janky, haha.

Yikes.

I was kinda keen to pick this up at launch, as haven’t played a BF since 4… but maybe I’ll hold off until all of this is fixed.

I mean sure, gameplay design choices probably wont get fixed on launch but i think rubberbanding issues, desync and other bugs will probably be less of a problem in the newer build

I'll stay optimistic this time

Well, this does not bid well for the game's release schedule.

This SkillUp guy outright lies in the video saying X1X is targetting 30fps, WTF. The game is literally targetting 60fps on every damn console and it holds 50-60fps on all consoles of course with some dips below 50s in some consoles.

Why do you think an MP Beta littered with visual bugs and rubber banding is not in rough shape? There were plenty of gameplay bugs too made apparent within 60 minutes of play time.
Easy adjustments and fixes? DICE are so slow and break so many other things when it comes to rolling out updates. This game didn't include a single player portion but still the game is looking to be a typical cluster fuck bug fest launch like BF3, BF5 and BF5. BF1 seems to be the least buggy BF game DICE pushed out the door going from memory.

I mean, I didn't think it was perfect, lol, but it's because when I think of "rough shape" I think of something in much worse condition. Freezes, crashes, more severe issues, etc. IMO what I saw was most certainly janky and to the point where it was like, "Man, how could this NOT launch with SOME jank?" But I was never like good GOD, WTF?

But like I said, in my personal play time, the worst thing I saw was the bizarre rubber banding/teleporting stuff. But it didn't happen a whole lot to me.

I was strictly referring to balance changes and adjustments when I said that. Which technically ARE "easy", how they will approach them, we'll see. It's been a mixed bag for DICE over the years.

Yes, it won't. But considering its development was done over quarantine when the team is forced to work separately and do things differently it shouldn't be a surprise. Is that an excuse? Hell no, but it's the reality of teams being used to specific workflows, but then forced to change them. It's affected a LOT of companies in a lot of industries. As always, communication is beyond important, especially in development. The minute something is forced to change (and it wasn't prepared for) it can get incredibly messy. I expected this to have a bumpier road than the average BF game as a result. I guess it's another reason why I'm not SO shocked. A bit? Sure. If anything I was just shocked that THAT build was the one they decided to push for open beta.

Yeah, I'd agree with that. There were people that claimed they had issues with BF1, but I didn't at all. I loved that game at launch and played it for months after, haha. There were a decent amount of issues with BF3 and even more so with 4. V, I didn't bother touching until earlier this year when it was super cheap, so I can't speak on behalf of that.

Rough shape or not, it was still more fun that most other online shooters. Still has that great sandbox feel that no other shooter has.

This time next year it will be in a better shape just like the last 10 years of BF and I'll have hundreds of hours of playtime.

I think the beta was very much typical battlefield with some polish but a lot of things are confusing and a lot of broken and buggy issues all over. For a beta so close to launch there sure were a lot of problems. I wouldn’t spend $69 on this.

I was thinking that the video looked like it's running at 60FPS, so I was like

im in the delay it camp. That beta was too buggy. How many games have a good launch when the beta is that troublesome???

I will say i didn't have much issue with it performance wise. Just lots of weird visual problems. The real problem is the gameplay. Thats why it should be delayed. Because with the modern setting, TTK, movement......they might could actually have a good game. But it just seems half assed in so many areas. Its just flat out not fun to play. It felt aimless, soul-less and wholly unsatisfying. It felt more like a bad version of a Just Cause battle royal game than it did BF4

Had 0 interest in this from the jump. DICE hasn't made a good game since Bad Company 2.

Bwah?

BF3, BF4 after some updates even BF1 were stellar games.
Tis the reason you see alot of youtubers going back to BF3 and BF4 because those were peak Battlefield games.
Upopular opinion but full patched BC2 doesnt hold a candle to BF3 and BF4.
Mirrors Edge Catalyst while not as hot as the first was a good game.
Battlefront II is a brilliant game once they got rid of the MTX bullshit.

I had a lot of fun with the core game play on PS5. There are a lot of design choices I really don't like though.

I don't like the movement speed or double sprint, the attachmen system is stupid from top to bottom and the specialists and TP executions are obvious copies from COD to sell microtransactions.

The specialists actually hinder the gameplay as BF needs clearly defined roles for squad play (who has ammo, health, etc.) It also makes it impossible to tell character models apart from Factions which makes zero sense.

I do still have hope for Portal mode tho and I am curious to see what the OG BF players do with it. If they can pull off something similar to hardcore BF3 or BF4 I will be hyped for that.

There's nothing to fix. Game is rotten in its core.

It's ain't no BF4 man. Bugs and mediocre graphics is not a big deal. Game is a bad Battlefield game, that's it. BF4 was great even with missing textures on PS3 during closed beta.

No amount of bug fixing can fix the game's core. Polished turd is still a turd no matter how shiny it is.

If you want BF4 like experience play BF4, if you want something similar but new, look elsewhere, there is nothing to see in the New BF.
