Criterion will now head the development of the next Battlefield singleplayer

Was the story a modified version of Fast and Furious 1, or F&F: Tokyo Drift?

It feels like those are the two movies that every street racing game takes inspiration from.
More or less, but imagine if those movies were written by people in their early 30's that were never cool trying to write quippy dialog they would imagine cool people saying. It's hilariously bad.

For example:

Edit: Fun game though.

I just hacked into the zoom meeting with Criterian director addressing his team, and he started off with this:

I'll give this a small pass and here's why: There was a mission in the Crew 1 where you had to escort a guy who talked too much. The Crew 1 was a fun undercover/revenge story that didn't make a lick of sense but had fun moments. I would need more clips of moments like this to really say 'oh, they're trying to make a shitty sitcom but with racing' instead of just one mission.

However, the part I won't give a pass is the voice acting. I also think the VA in your clip is the real problem here if this is an example as to how the actors sound. That acting is NBA 2k levels of bad and if you turn off the sound from that clip, you'll see that the writing itself is just ok but the voice acting makes it way worse.

I own that I was wrong in the Ridgeline thread when I guessed that they were laid off due to the single player being complete and/or them fulfilling their contract obligations. It was just an assumption like I said there too, but wanted to clear the air before I get tagged by a couple of individuals here 😂

The VAs in this clip are indeed bad, but that style of writing just annoys the hell out of me, I can't do it lol. But to be fair, if you just search youtube you'll see plenty of clips like this, everyone is VERY chatty, unfortunately, it isn't just these two characters. The tone is also weird as hell, everything is off with the writing.

You can randomly click around in this video to see what I mean.

Hopefully Criterion can channel some of their BLACK prowess, was playing that game via backwards compat on the series X a couple weeks back and that game is still fun as hell.
