Total sales for PlayStation 5 have surpassed one million units in Japan, according to Famitsu numbers.

What about buying the console ASAP, regardless of short term purchase plans? I live here, there are like 9 ps5 games on shelves in stores here, but everyone is going into lotteries to get PS5s... They'll have their eyes on games like GT7 and FFXVI and the like, i reckon..

So this means Japanese PS5 console shipments & sales are way under 10% of the worldwide sales. I didn't check out the number of Japanese sales the week they announced PS5 sales achieved 10M worldwide, but it should be a small percentage of the worldwide sales.

In retail, only when reached the top 30 and over 70% of the worldwid Sony consoles game sales are digital. So the amount of copies this game sold in Japan must be pretty higher.

Almost zero because it's an incomplete, misleading number that very likely doesn't even reflect half of the units this game sold in Japan.

Is that guy saying $1,500 a month is high? $2,000 a month is about as low as you're going to get in many major cities: Sydney, Hong Kong, Tokyo, New York, San Fran.

In Sydney you could get a really shitty 1 bedder for about $1,200 a month but you really wouldn't want to live there.

And you're 100% right, a senior Cloud Architect is going to be paid roughly $200-300k a year.

I don't think many people have a grasp of how much money we get paid in IT. That's why I always get upset about people bitching about crunch. When you're paid this salary you should shut the fuck up and earn it. When people ask me to work overtime all I can think of is: for the money you're paying me, I'm not complaining

Like i said earlier, that's a logical jump that can only be born of a tilted perspective. There are very few games to buy, fewer genres, people are buying it for games yet to come out, that's the more likely reason, occam's razor

I remember being lucky living in Yotsuya in a dorm my college year here in Japan. Compared with what others were paying to live there, I was practically given a huge break. Makes me glad to l live outside Tokyo with my own house in the countryside. Cheaper and bigger than I would ever had gotten had I stayed in Tokyo.

as for ps5 sales, not as good as the ps1/ps2 glory days but it’s good to see its doing better than PS4. Most of my friends here are still trying to find one with no luck. Glad I got lucky with amazon.

Demand is higher than it normally would be because we're all stuck indoors (in Japan) plus there are plenty of scalper listings so if we're talking sales from shops then yeah of course they're all being bought up. There's really no risk at all buying a PS5 right now because you can just play it for a bit and then sell it second-hand for more than you paid for it anyway (if you can get it at MSRP).

I'll be more interested to see what the numbers look like once the pandemic is over and all that stay-at-home demand fizzles out (and consumption moves back over from goods to services).

I bought a launch PS5 - but my only native PS5 game is Astro. I'm enjoying it right now as more like Super PS4 Pro to be honest.
