Halo: Infinite - No Co-op or Forge at launch

I was wondering this too. It sounds like a deal breaker for lots. I just assumed it was a nice to have.
Well of you look at this thread it seems coop shooters are a very big deal here on Gaf.

Turns our most people hate them, until they can use it as ammunition.

Everyone wants single player games they can play on thier own time.... Until a single player game comes out, then they are being deprived of features.

Guess I will not play the game at launch then. Co-Op defines the series for me. It's too bad Microsoft didn't manage Bungie better. 343i just doesn't get it.

Sucks they are going to miss you.

I imagine the entire game is going to flop now.

They should have included hookers and blackjack.

How big of a deal is this no co-op for Halo players?
4-player co-op was one of my favorite things about the series, but I'm hardly a diehard fan. I think the vaunted lore is lame, I didn't like the Reach book (though the game was fun), and I've never even played a 343i Halo.

Still, coming from a lapsed Halo (or "classic Halo," depending on your POV) fan who's looking to jump back in with Infinite, co-op is important enough that I'll put off my purchase of the campaign until it's available.

I'm guessing ms has exact figures on how many people play co-op and how many play single player, likely 343 "get it" more than you do.

A 7/10 game designed from the ground up as co-op is somehow proof this concept should work in the story driven narrative of halo first person shooters?

Just trying to show how the following statement was wrong...

"The only way that works properly is if you sat and watched the other 3 people play thier levels."

It doesn't disprove anything, since I was clearly talking about 4 player halo infinite, not every game on the planet.

That's why co-op is being left out all together. Oh wait.
It's not being left out all together, it's being delayed as they figure out how to marry open world with coop.

It's not that hard, even an idiot sandwich can see why those two elements can be a problem when combined

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit today, friend.

It's not about proving or disproving. I'm just trying to get you to understand what separating players in a coop game looks like that doesn't devolve into "staring at each others screens".

I'm excited about Redfall for what it is, but in a Halo game I don't care to play with anybody else. I want my story campaigns to be solo. The difference with Redfall is that is a game that, to me, is more properly built for co-op from a overall believability and narrative standpoint.

There is nobody else with the chief but the Chief himself. There may be campaign scenarios where you have another person with you, but you ain't suppose to have another Master Chief. Those things are immersion breakers for me, which is why I can never see myself playing a Halo campaign and doing the co-op with anybody. Maybe there might come a day where I desire to, but it's no big deal for me.

Hey remember how halo reach launched with forge, firefight, and co-op on time
Hey remember how there wasn't a pandemic and Reach wasn't open world in 2008?

If they would have gone God of War 2018, coop would have been easy.

It's the open world part giving them grief.

It has no place here in the thread about halo.....if we were to separate players in Halo multiplayer Co-op, it becomes silly. I think most of already clearly understand that other multiplayer games exist. If I brought up "NO way out" doesn't mean it works in Halo at all.

Damn why are you showing selfies in Xbox threads?

Self pics should go here

Ok. And in all likelihood most players play Halo campaign in single player mode.

Most is vague and >%50 is still just another statistic pulled out of thin air. If it weren't important or barely utilized, the feature wouldn't be coming at all.

That makes zero sense. Tons of features in every single game ever made are used by a small portion of users.

Agree to disagree.

You do realize features have a cost money to implement, right? Now let's look at this post of yours.

I'm guessing ms has exact figures on how many people play co-op and how many play single player

Besides the guessing part (Microsoft have precise data related to this), you are on the money. If it were a barely used feature, they'd just omit it from the series moving forward, take the PR hit from the vocal minority the like the feature. But seeing how the feature is coming, It's obviously important enough to Microsoft and 343i to continue supporting. I'm not sure why that makes no sense to you, but I digress. Infinite's development has obviously been troubled so this news isn't terribly surprising.

It's the usual suspects, co-op is nice now and again but most people play the campaign solo and Forge is used even less. The armchair analysts in here are laughable, calling for a developer to be closed. Saying covid has not been that bad or affected development that much, only a moron would think that but there are plenty of those in this thread.

Feel bad? For having to wait a few months for something? People need to get some damn perspective.

It's more about the timings of things. Game comes out and your coop buddy plays it solo and so do you, streamers do play through, forums fill with spoilers, friends turn to multi and all those things point to less first experience in coop.

My son and I will be going solo instead of coop as we want to experience things without spoilers. So rather than a first experience it will be a replay experience.

I can wait but having campaign launch and coop later is not a nice experience and some magic lost.

Considering the loss of splitscreen and LAN features in previous 343 Halo releases it's just more bitterness and lost opportunity for greatness.

While I agree with some of your statement, you also can't just ignore the fact that they've had 6 years to figure this shit out. It can't come as a surprise for them like 4 months before release "oh yea, we also gotta put campaign co-op into this new open-world style gameplay". Something has gone terribly wrong, while developing this game. Be it management or whatnot.

Trust me, I really want a good Halo campaign, but it just sounds like it's shaping up to be a mess. I really hope I'm wrong though.

Now, its not 100% confirmed he actually a 343 dev or just troll account but his post looks legit and was posted on multiple forums like Era and all.. So i decided to share with Gaf brothers and sisters as well.. :)

Man i think Campaign will not be that good, it will be Halo 5 all over again imo.. Solid mp but mediocre to bad campaign..

This is either completely true or there are absolute lunatics out there that can blag this shit well.

games are often in development hell up until the last minute where they magically come together. its not really hell, it's just game development.

all we can do is wait until launch day and see how it is, there is no point in wasting time pumping out negativity. It won't be too long until we know.

That's what most people are saying on era and reddit as well

This is a carefully constructed hoax, if you actually read through it. The individual has taken different pieces of information from Joe and other 343 employees and put this together. The whole part about the campaign is basically what Staten said previously, obviously the Wildlands comparison is just made up.

Troll (most likely) or not, this thread will be full of concerned and disappointed people very soon who never played Halo and never will.
