WiLD cancelled, according to Jeff Grub

Take it with a grain of salt, though not surprising if true. Game's being MIA for years now.

Promising PS4 Exclusive WiLD Has Allegedly Been Canned - Push Square

Let’s not beat around the bush: WiLD looked incredible. The ambitious open worlder helmed by Michel Ancel and his Wild Sheep Studio was announced as a PlayStation 4 exclusive eons ago, but with the Rayman maker retiring from games and development seemingly stalling for an entire generation, word is that it no longer exists.

First, let’s get to the source: the rumour comes courtesy of chatty Venture Beat scribe Jeff Grubb, speaking as part of his latest Giant Bomb podcast. The video’s currently behind a paywall, but VGC quotes the alleged industry insider as claiming that the game is “dead”. He said: “The project got shut down. The team that was working on it was looking at maybe trying to stay together and work on other projects.”

The game was first announced at Gamescom in 2014, where it won our Game of the Show award, as voted by you. A fascinating gameplay demo – including a giant naked snake lady – followed a year later at Paris Games Week, but updates have been sparse since then. This always looked expensive and ambitious, so without Ancel’s vision, it’s hardly a surprise to learn the project may have been scrapped.

We’ll try and follow up with Sony to see if we can get confirmation of the project’s status, and we’ll update if we get a response.

I always wonder how much money has been spent when games are cancelled after this long in development. 10s of millions?

All the projects that were directed by Ancel can be considered pretty much dead.
So this and BG&E2. Maybe there is a slight chance that Ubisoft could release the latter as a F2P multiplayer game full of microtransactions that has nothing to do with the original.

The game we haven't seen or heard about in years, that was being made by the dude that publicly announced he was retiring from videogames last year is probably cancelled?

Another mindblowing insider scoop by Jeff Grubb that's totally not a safe and predictable guess that anyone who keeps tabs on gaming news could have made

Imagine working on something for SIX YEARS and then have it end up in the dumpster.

My sympathies to all devs who befell this fate.

They most likely stopped working years ago, kept the project in the freezer since the paris show. Meeschel Onsel is a liar and hopefully one of his farm animals kicks him in the shin! Bastard!

It has been 6 years since an update so it wouldn't be shocking it got cancelled but on the other hand they launched a new website and moved to a new studio quite recently and have 5 vacancies right now on their website dated last month. It happened very recently if it got canned.

The Michel Ancel games have an average development time of 32043 years. I bet it isn't canned and we're in another case of the xbox fanboy Jeff Grub mading up stuff spreading fud over PS exclusive stuff using his own guesses as his only source. And since he throws some of them per week from time to time he gets one of them right.

Last year when Michel Ancel left Ubisoft -and the games industry- said Wild and BGE2 were in development and in very good hands. I think it's still under development and Jeff made up this story.

I was so excited for this game too. Still had no idea what it was really about, wasn't it that you could become different animals and could move up the life cycle. And also be a adventurer in a fantasy set in a bronze-era where mythical creatures exist?

Wild sheep posted a job offer to work on Wild last February, and I just saw last month they posted 5 job offers more on their website, that they only mention Wild on their website and LinkedIn and they only have Wild images on their webside, LinkedIn and social media (FB, it's the only one they did use).

When Michel Ancel left last year he said that Wild and BGE2 were still under development and in very good hands.

So I think it's another bullshit rumor fro Jeff Grubb mading up stuff.

So unless they cancelled this week and still didn't update anyhting, Jeff Grubb is lying again.

It would be nice to mention in the OP that when 'Ancel announced he was leaving the games industry in September 2020 to spend time on a wildlife sanctuary he stated that his two current projects, Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Wild, were in capable hands with his departure' , that back in February 2021 they posted a job offer to work on Wild and that they posted 5 new job offers last month on their website and linkedIn, places where like in their FB they only show Wild images and stuff.

Jeff seems to be lying again.

Could be.

Would not be shocked if he is making it up cause it sounds like a logical guess that would be canned.

Kerotan Kerotan true. For all we know, they are moving it over to next gen, or really did can it. Who knows.
