Horizon Forbidden West Delayed to Q1 2022 (broke by Grubb, verified by Schreier)

Do you know how many sales Zero Dawn has?

I'll admit I'm being ignorant, but I think it's reasonable to assume Halo Infinite would garner more sales even despite multiplayer being F2P.

Then again, PS5 has an insane attach rate right now with their games and more double the install base considering all these are cross gen games. So who knows.

No wonder sonys charging on ghost director update for a lipsync , 3d audio and dualsense controls, they prob need the money since they not gonna have any decent first party games for rest of the yr, i deffently feel like ive jumped in to quick with a ps5 that the only true next gen game i played felt like ratchet, but same could be said for my xbox x, deffently worse console generation so far for me

Ratchet and clank and lol returnal, are not "BIG" Sony AAA games, Ratchet is a cool game but it has sold around 1million units or so, Returnal is at 560k.

Big Sony AAA games sell well over 5mill, more like 10mill. Which is the reason they will be crossgen. It's definitely not ideal for Sony to not have one of these for the holiday IMO.
And why is this bothering you so much ? Why are you so obsesed about big holiday release ?

Better delayed to 2022 than rushed in 2021

Ever heard of that classic Miyamoto mojo ? A delayed game can be good a rushed game wil be bad or something like that

I dont want another Cyberpunk 2077

You gotta just how much time was wasted patching up the issues in the PC version of Zero Dawn. They supported the game for 6 months after launch, and literally had to send a PR release out to say they wont be fixing anymore bugs going forward.

Maybe it was just 5-10 programmers fixing all the bugs. Maybe more. Doesnt matter. Thats six months of dev and QA time wasted.

Whats worse is the implications. Yes, we wont get to play the game a few months early but there is NO way Horizon will go up against BoTW2, GoW 2, and Starfield and win GOTY. What a wasted opportunity by Sony and GG. Maybe if it was next gen only and had some awe inspiring new tech that changed the gameplay experience, but it;s a last gen game handicapped by last gen ideas and if Zero Dawn didnt win against BoTW, it sure as hell winning against BoTW2.

Well done. And to think Sony chose the head of GG to run Worldwide Studios. People do fail upwards.

Cool but those aren't sales.

Doesn't matter. Player engagement means more from are consumer side of things. 24 million people(a shit ton) wanted to play Forza Horizon 4 be it on PC or Console, purchase or rental service.

The cross-gen PS4 versions of Spider-Man / SM Miles Morales, Sackboy, and Horizon FW were listed in announcements attached to the Sept 2020 event, not that first June 2020 event. This news wasn't in the videos, it was in separate press releases.

GT7 and God of War were mentioned in a PS Blog interview last June with Herman Hulst (who would know these things) that, "Where it makes sense to develop a title for both PS4 and PS5 — for Horizon Forbidden West, the next God of War, GT7 — we’ll continue looking at that. "

Technically, the official listing for Gran Turismo 7 is still PS5 (God of War 'Ragnarok' does not yet have an official listing, just that teaser mention in the video.) However, Sony has done nothing to say otherwise when that interview hint and it led to the obvious conclusion that they've already looked and are done looking and are doing the cross-gen versions.

In almost all of these cases, the games were announced as part of a PS5 showcase, but otherwise not announced as only being next-gen releases. Only GT7 ever listed "PlayStation 5 Exclusive".

Of course, until September, we didn't know that cross-gen was part of Sony's gameplan (it seemed impossible even, given the "We believe in generations" Jim Ryan quote,) so nobody could have known until then (although it has been weird since, in one moment, people saw Miles, Horizon and GT7 and flipped their lids about how next-gen they looked, but then the cross-gen announcement came out and you started to hear a lot of, "Oh yeah, you can totally tell...".)
Pretty sure your chronological order of events is correct. The GT7 "PS5 exclusive" was from the tag in their Dec 2020 video.

I dont blame anyone for believing all these games were PS5 exclusives until Sony stated later on otherwise. When you do a PS5 reveal in a summer 2020 video and then showcase a bunch of first party games right after it, why would anyone assume these are for PS4 too?

Now when they got questioned about it later on and they gave vague answers, then people could put two and two together and get the hint they might be cross plat. But nobody still knew what was what because some games were PS5 exclusive like Demons Souls, R&C, Returnal, and Destruction All Stars, some are cross plat like Horizon 2, Spidey, Sack Boy, GT7 and GoW (and also Godfall now), and even one of them (as your said GT7) was stated as exclusive in Dec and isn't anymore. Some games were stated as cross plat in Sep, some were stated cross plat this year.

So it was all over the place because Sony shut their mouths and werent transparent. Given what I just said above, how many people out there watchin the summer show would had guessed the correct combination of what is and isn't cross plat including a GT7 flip flop? Nobody. Because Sony never confirmed anything until they felt like it.

Cool but those aren't sales.
you know if it were the other way round Microsoft would get slammed hard by all the Sony fans here.

covid is a thing though and its effected games so its not unexpected some will get delayed, will still be a good game when it arrives

Maybe, it should be a big but with the MP being f2p could cut into sales. There's GamePass, too, they don't count towards sales.
The car Horizon though, that one maybe not. Zero Dawn did 2.6M in 2 weeks and "well over" 10M in 2 years (Feb 2019), it's a pretty big game for a new IP.

This is the dumbest thing I've read all day.

Why when Microsoft provides a rental service for its first party games. Why the hell would we not take that into consideration. Neither you or me are seeing a cent of money from sales so why would I need to prioritize someone choosing to buy a game over just renting it. At the end of the day they wanted to play the game all the same.

Mate I am not bothered and I am not obsessed, this is the first post I've made on the matter. I quite truly don't give a fuck, this is a place for conversation so I voiced an opinion and moved on with my day.

Not sure why my post bothered you so much. I was replying to a person and that person wasn't even you :messenger_peace:

You're missing the ENTIRE point that was being made.

No shit more people will try a game when it's included on Gamepass.

So games that come out on PC day and date with XSX releases count as exclusives, but the same don't count for PS4\PS5 games? I don't get it.....
Again, Microsoft was straight-forward about their cross-platform/PC initiative from the get-go. They told us that all future Microsoft published games would come to Xbox and PC simultaneously and that Xbox One would be supported for the next few years. They were ridiculed endlessly for this.

Meanwhile, Sony churned out disingenuous messaging through events and ads (before PS5 released) stating that the biggest games in their upcoming portfolio would ONLY be available on PS5, yet we now know this was a lie.

Honesty makes all the difference.

Of course it matters when I was replying to "Horizon is an amazing game but it won't come close to their sales."

And says that Sony must have a big gigantic game for holiday 21 yes?

There goes all my hopes for a future Killzone title

And you're right about Game Pass, completely forgot about that cutting into their own sales.

So what big Sony made games gonna be out this Christmas?
No big game on PS5 this holiday

I know youre an xboxers and tried to make a subtle jab here but I suppose that doesnt effect you much since you got Halo Infinite and Forza Horizon 4 coming to keep you busy this holiday yes ?

No.

Ratchet is a cool title (I own it) is it as big as Sony's other franchises? no. That's just a fact not an opinion.

Returnal is a new IP that is doing well, but it's smaller than ratchet, let alone Horizon and GOW.

Quote where I said Sony must have a gigantic holiday, I'll wait, because I obviously did not say that. I say it's not "ideal" which is true, if Sony's released schedule had gone according to plan they would've had Horizon and GOW this year, like they intended to initially. When a situation doesn't pan out the way you plan it at first, well it's not ideal.

I never talked about it being a massive failure or this being catastrophic for Sony. You're reading way too much into a simple post. Jesus.

You're being obtuse for shit and giggles now, I hope english is not your first language.

The word must is not in that post, it literally says "IN MY OPINION, not having one of these is not IDEAL". but thanks for reaffirming my post.

I like playstation I just don't have a ratchet plushie and sleep in pajamas with sony's logo.

Edit: NVM, just saw you embarrasing yourself all over this thread, you won't be getting further replies from me.

You are discounting the bigger halo fanbase. The pc guys.

Halo will sell gigantic on steam.

Mcc is still hitting top 10 in steam weekly charts.

Haha jk. Hope you don't mind :p
Lmfao. MS with the best holiday exclusives on both consoles.

Nobody would have called that at the beginning of the year.
