So the game got a lot of negative press when gameplay was first shown,
Interesting. I have not noticed it anywhere besides people whining it is not A:Iso 2 or FPS.
I mean, I suppose a lot of people claimed it looked repetitive, but that was just an observation from the early IGN playthrough video and trailer. There are a ton of preview videos available now from yesterday where folks said that it was surprisingly fun and that they could easily see themselves putting a ton of hours into it. Especially in the AVP Galaxy and Legacy Gaming one. Which one is clearly full of hardcore Alien fans, the other a random site, but the video provided a good amount of info, gameplay, and menus. You haven't seen anyone mention it looked very repetitive?

Nope, I have not seen anyone explaining what was repetitive.

Can't really debate about repetition, much like fun factor, it's all subjective. All I'm saying is that there are plenty of videos from this week of people that played for several hours and had decent things to say. About replay value as well. They weren't sponsored or paid to do so either. I mean, the one I mentioned earlier even showcased crashes, lol. That's really it.
Like I stated before. No one has explained what is repetitive in a full mission presented in IGN footage. If these are gameplay mechanics and its loop, then the game is not for them obviously.

I've seen environments mentioned several times. It looks like 5 hours of grey slimy walls too.
Sounds like dumb fun at least.

She did not back up what she said at all. For example: I moved to another section of the mission and everything looked like in a previous one or environment in second or third mission looked same like in previous missions. Not to mention she described gameplay as generic. I wonder if she can even recognize the difference between refinement and something just put together without a thought.
She really doesn't have to be that descriptive. I mean every video is pretty much the sane grey-walled environment. Her video speaks for itself as do all the others. I get that to have the LV feel, but it just seems overdone.
She has to as her own video did not show it. Unless she was expecting some rainbows and unicorns.
Also bear in mind that a preview version of the game was giving access to the first two campaigns only. The first one on space station and the second one on surface of nearby planet. Environments, as we could see from previews, are not repeated in missions.
Not to mention you should give an example of game which does not have samey environment by your standards (whatever they are). So we can do a comparison.
Dumb fun for sure, and I'm all about it. Big Alien/s fan, so I was in regardless. But I'm all for dumb fun in the Aliens universe with some pals.
Her video did show it, it was the same thing over and over as are almost every other video.
I can think of some games that are less repetitive looking but you're just going to play the disagree game with everything I bring up. I've seen your defensive stances over everything Alien/predator in other threads and choose not to get sucked into it. Hopefully, the other preview looks less repetitive.
Let's adress the elephant in the room: god damnit, are these aliens the most boring, harmless, slow as shit cannon fodder aliens I've ever seen in a 3D Alien game.
Isn't the movie the game is based on - "Aliens" - about dread, desperation and exciting survial? So the complete opposite of what the game is showing so far?
However, the game has the potential to be a hit among very, very casual aliens fans I guess?
I mean, there's no elephant in the room. It's Aliens + L4D and that's it. There's other xeno classes that resemble the ones people are more familiar with from films, comics, etc. Essentially the Hunters, Smokers, Boomers, etc. of the game. The ones that are more plentiful are fodder and meant to be easy targets. Much like they were in Vermintide, L4D, Killing Floor, etc.Let's adress the elephant in the room: god damnit, are these aliens the most boring, harmless, slow as shit cannon fodder aliens I've ever seen in a 3D Alien game.

Nope, her video did not show such a thing.
Your claim is unsubstantiated that environment in the game is repetitive.
And obviously you did not give examples of games that are not repetitive by your standards. Not to mention you do not like discussions based on constructive arguments which I always bring. Thus your excuse.
The bottom line is: nowhere we have seen that environment in the game is repetitive.
I mean just watch the video or any other video. No one needs to show you timestamps because the entire videos show the same thing, grey hallways. Even stuff like L4D is considered repetitive yet the environments and locals are far more varied than what we've seen here. Fireteams looks like it could almost be randomly generated.
I've seen environments mentioned several times. It looks like mostly 5 hours of grey slimy walls too.
Sounds like dumb fun at least.
Nonsense at its best.
So far we have seen the first mission of the first campaign in its entirety. And nowhere there we see any repetition. Snippets from the second and third mission in new preview videos just prove that they are not the same. Unless you have an issue with one aesthetic style which is as it should be for obvious reasons, i.e. a space station, planet surface, engineers facilities, hive. All crafted. Not some composition of different ones which would make the game ugly.
Not to mention L4D has less interesting environments and less varied than what is available in AFTE.
"Less interesting." So you're steering the conversation to what you think is more interesting instead of facts. The fact is one level of l4d is more varied than fireteam, and that's considering L4D isn't that varied.
Nope, it is you who stated that L4D is more varied. Yet facts do not agree with you.
Verify stuff first instead writing uninformed nonsense.
BTW I watched the whole playthrough of the second mission from the first campaign. There are not same rooms in it and no section was repeated in it from the first mission.
Bring valid arguments, not wishful thinking.
Verify what? Like saying things are more "interesting?" Wonderful subjective verification you did there.
I did state that L4D is not that varied. But even over ten years later, you can show me a 5-second slice of gameplay of L4D and I can remember the exact portion of the level. That will not be the case here. L turns, R turns, big grey rooms over and over. I've seen almost all the gameplay of Fireteam too
Verifying what others say without backing it up with anything.
So, saying something is "more interesting" works though? Let's focus on that and not go any further since you seem to be all about evidence and facts yet you use a subjective opinion.
Again. You have nothing besides make-believe.
FYI everyone can see and compare environments from the both games.
vs
lol you pit a playthrough of L4D versus a marketing heavily edited trailer aimed to make the game look diverse.
The 1st mission of the 1st campaign
The 2nd mission of the 1st campaign
A comparison can be made to L4D.
And where is a repetition?
No one has uploaded the 3rd mission and missions from the 2nd campaign besides snippets.
The bottom line is: you failed to prove what you claim.
Next customer, please.
Those vids prove my point even more.
Pick a level in L4D and fast forward a couple of minutes through the entire level, then do the same in Fireteam, L4D level design is more much more unique, visual markers everywhere and constant changes between indoor and outdoor environments within the same level. A single level can have you start in an outdoor forest, then a subway, and end in urban environments.
Fireteam? Big grey hall, small grey hall, big grey room, small grey room. Then toss on a coat of slim. Diverse!
And again, this is considering L4D isn't all that diverse, but compared to Fireteam it comes off like a crowning achievement.
I guess you need to visit ophthalmologist.
L4D has boring environmental design. No special aesthetics about it. And obviously worse graphics as it was made for hardware from 2008. AFTE on the other hand has environments based on sci-fi franchise. Thus more interesting design, more detailed.
And soon we will get to play the whole game. So it will be the final nail to L4D coffin as we will experience other levels and campaigns.
I pity you being stuck this way.
I mean, you're comparing visuals to a 2008 game? Have we devolved to that? I guess I'll just take that as a white flag. Again, "aesthetics" is subjective, so you're doing that thing again where you try and force your opinion onto something factual like level design diversity. You're purposely deflecting to what's "interesting" to you. That's not the point. The fact is, L4D has you exploring very different spaces on a single level, this does not.
I don't blame you, but woo boy, Dark Alliance gameplay looked rough from day one. This at least looks more stable.I want this game, but after Dark Alliance I’m gun-shy about pulling the trigger. Will wait for early reviews.
