EA’s IP revival is reportedly a Dead Space ‘reimagining’

What's with the brain rot of western developers. Drrr "reimagining" ironically it has become the least creative word as these cretins have mindlessly parroted one another.

Oh I hope it isn't FPP actually, we don't need RE 7-9 doing that AND new Dead Space doing it. Its cool for a lot of things, but its also really important to me to see the character and their animations and such, one of the best things about RE2&3R.

the only reasons im at all hopeful for this is that a) maybe they really did learn from jedi fallen order and b) the original dead space's story telling and world building really was pretty intriguing and enjoyable, and what they did to it in ds3, and honestly even parts of 2, never sat well with me at all. real squandered potential, and that's coming from someone that actually liked the fucking moon thing lmao

I’ll just wait for The Callisto Protocol
Yea no kidding, considering they wanted to tone down the franchise with Dead Space 3. God only knows how bad they’d ring it out. The creative mind will take whatever was there and possibly create something better. Dead Space was amazing, probably up there with some of the best games on PS3/360. I’d say the talent behind that left EA a long time ago.

Sadly, this is probably true. But! They may learn from star wars to not do exactly that

How could that be true? I'd assume they wouldn't do anything like that.

Star Wars Fallen Order, no MP, no MTX
Dragon Age 4, MP removed, will be SP only.
Battlefield 2042 MP only, SP removed, free maps ,no BR mode

It tells me they are listening and changing what they do based on what many fans are saying. So if Dead Space 3 failed because of Co-op, I don't see them going that route if that is the very thing that led them to stop doing the series in the first place.

skit_data skit_data I'll wait for both. That Protocol game apparently is going to be based on the Pub G Universe....so.....ima wait and see what exactly it is.

I fucking guarantee you its open world.

absolutely disgusting.
Open world dead space might actually be good. So much potential if they get it right. I like the idea of salvaging stuff from across the ruins of a solar system, cities, labs, armories, Unitologist tomb fleets, orbital graveyards, alien ruins, ect and upgrading your gear and weapons to take on increasingly horrific and powerful necromorphs until Isaac and Ellie have gone from their Dead Space 2 modified RIGs to Dead Space 4 endgame RIGs nearing Starship Trooper Mobile Armor in firepower (the book versions that could operate entire theaters of combat and glass them as needed.)

Soooo we're totes excited to tell y'all about the new Dead Space. Like before it was Isaac Clarke, but the fact that he was a white cis man was problematic, and don't get us started on the fact that he was neurodivergent. We talked with the devs of the first game and told them "this ain't it, big yikes,"

So basically, we reimagined the premise as Necromorphs can only infect Caucasian males, it's like totes an allegory for how they rape, pillage and subjugate everyone. So our stunning and brave female lesbian black lead is going to Check. Their. Privilege. With a pulse rifle. You go, girl!

Also, microtransactions.

Just not a first person game please.

So, EA killed this franchise by meddling with more action and micro transactions. They later killed Visceral Games.

Even if this isn’t some dogshit action shooter or something, it’s not going to touch the original.
I think Visceral imploded for reasons specific to that team, not upper management.

Visceral has this pretty narrow moment of producing amazing games but they went pretty off the rails toward the end.

I think starting over is the right approach. Get back to what made the series work in the begining.

"An Electronic Arts IP revival teased last weekend is reportedly a reimagining of sci-fi horror series Dead Space.

It was first claimed by journalist Jeff Grubb this weekend that EA was set to announce a new project during its EA Play Live event on July 22, which he had previously claimed was an unnamed “established IP” revival by EA’s Motive studio.

The story was picked up by VGC and other outlets, and now Gematsu has corroborated the report and claimed that the “established IP” is Dead Space.

The Dead Space series first released in 2008 and has not seen a new instalment since 2013’s Dead Space 3. The series’ developer, Visceral Games, was closed by EA in 2017.

According to Gematsu, the new Dead Space game will be a “reimagining” of the series, rather than a straight sequel to the existing trilogy of games."

Now with Microtransactions

The first two were great....the fact they are reimagining what was a great concept in the first place is a giant red flag.....I guess they could reimagine it and make it even better....but this is EA so.........

I wouldn't be surprised if whatever third person game Motive was working on is basically getting a dead space makeover. EA is too much of a coward to launch a new IP, so leverage an older respected brand into something it isn't to dupe enough fools into buying it.

Most of the staff at Visceral formed another studio, I forget the name but they are working on some kind of MMO. By the time of post Dead Space 2 most of the team responsible for 1/2 had left EA.

Please, no more of this re-imagining bullshit. I can already see it be chuck-full of various needless insertions.

Anyway, I honestly can't see them top the original Dead space 1. This will probably have the subtlety of a freighttrain.

Is this really confirmed?
From the dev:

“The funny thing is, I came in with this story when I went and met with the PUBG people for the first time and started talking about [The Callisto Protocol] and building a studio. I presented this game to them, and so what we did was we made it fit within the PUBG storyline.”

I suspect and hope that it’s just a funny bit of trivia similar to how the Alien and Bladerunner movies share the same universe
Hope so but I'll keep my expectations low so that I don't get disappointed for some lame excuse for microtransactions.

'Reimagining' is never a good word. 'We'll take the vague idea and make it something similar to but worse than what it was before.'

Why would they revive such a niche title?

Because of Resident Evil's success.

I think that tells you everything you need to know. Look at RE for ideas about what this "re-imagining" will entail.

They should really just remaster the first 3 before any radical departures. Cheap and easy way to measure if there is still interest in the franchise. It certainly gets bought up regularly on the forum.

Dead Space getting an female protagonist?
They might have a female character playable with a group of others I feel. It will probably be 4 player co-op and will have to check all diversity checkboxes with a mandatory online connection, open world, loot boxes and a battle royale mode. Issac will either be hidden in a loot box somewhere or you will have to pay real money to unlock him.

Honestly though, I’m really hoping they don’t screw this up, but I got some major concerns about this.

Dead Space doesn't need a "re-imagining" it was already perfect (except the 3rd game obviously). It need a new game in the same style of the first 2. Or at least a remaster. Though the graphics are still fine today.

I really liked dead space 1&2 but then it went major downhill with 3 , id love respawn to take control of dead space if it was to come back as they proved they can do a good single player game, if its ea motive then can see this becoming a diverse multiplayer short game like squadrons which i defiantly wont be touching
