Looks like a fucking CW show. The acting looks fucking awful, the dialog is bad (maybe it's more that the dialog is so bad that the acting look awful? I don't know) and the direction looks, like I said, CW-ish. I expect a mediocrity as per usual with Netflix shows.

Haven't read the comics but I heard it's good. Trailer is meh but I hope this adaptation will do it justice for the fans
It's Netflix, it won't. Just like they butchered Witcher turning it from one of the most interesting worlds to a dull mediocre experience they'll do the same here. Netflix is like Disney, they use their own terrible recipe in every goddamn show they create with just a few exceptions.

I really liked Locke and Key! The trick is to never read books and expect very little from Netflix. Then you're rarely disappointed!After what was done to Locke & Key, I go in with low expectations from Netflix everytime.

I think if I wasn't such a big fan of the graphic novels I would have liked it a lot more. You should read them sometime! It's story is mostly the same, but much darker and definitely not for kids.

Not interested but in familiar with the comic, mostly because of the excellent penciller, Frank Quitely. His work can be an acquired taste, but check it out. You may fall in love.

I read the first volume of the comics a couple years back. I intended to finish the series once the rest was released, but then forgot about it. I remember thinking at the time that the stuff I got through was solid, though. Looking forward to seeing how Netflix fucks this one up.

It’s not top tier maybe 6/10
The world building is great .. they spend too much time on it but I guess it’s to clear the way for season 2.
They intertwine flashbacks into almost every episode at random times to tell us the story on how they got their powers. It would have been better to just do the first 1 1/2 eps on the backstory and concentrate the rest of the main story point.
The characters are generic as fuck and we only see like 2 villains in the whole show.
Action scenes are okay.

Watched the first episode, and...Wow! What a smelly piece of shit. For the first 5 minutes, I thought that it was a parody, but, no, the director, the script writers and the actors had not intended this as a joke!
The freaking make up work is terrible; the dialogues are less subtle than an elephant in a porcelain shop; The CG work, compared to something like The Boys or even the Umbrella Academy is a good 10 years behind; The main fight scene is sluggish, with horrible direction and visuals; The lines delivery reminds me of school plays; The political speech at the table makes me fear the worst -or the best!- for those who will stick with this turd...

On topic: I love cape flicks, so I'll watch this. I doubt it'll come anywhere near The Boys or UA but not many shows will.
Also wtf @ The Witcher hate... it could've been better but it's still awesome. And I didn't even like The Witcher games.

This looks like something that would have been cool 10 years ago on NBC or CW.
They need to poach some peeps over at HBO to get some quality back in to their content. Hell, go after Prime Video peeps even.
Netflix has really been a whiff the last few years outside of their crime documentary stuff.

It's one of these "slow" soap opera kind of shows that avoids the actual insane horror and drama of living in a superhero world.
Marvel takes place on Earth 616 which is an alternate version of 666. So, they are living in a hell universe. One minute you're normal and the next you're a rubber man or exploding with energy.
If this kind of thing was happening your life would be consumed with all of the ultra scary stuff happening. It's why I don't love the humor in Marvel movies. Witty is fine but funny is not. I love comics and liked to take the stories seriously.
This show is serious but the first several episodes are a family and relationship drama. They just happen to be superheroes and I hate that. However, the acting and production value is very good.

I want to give this a watch this weekend. Looks cool in the trailers, but it's going up against The Boys as far as best superhero shows is concerned. Not sure anything is getting close to that right now.

The Boys is a comedy and Jupiter is a relationship and family drama.
As I've said in another post, it's trying to be "realistic" but turns out not realistic due to ignoring the superhero world.
For instance, the main hero has a daughter and she feels smothered having to be part of a hero family. That's because they have a code of honor and she has no code of honor and is whorish. So she has "daddy issues" and is like fuck all of this!
That would be fine if they were the only superbeings and there were no real threats except average ones in the world. So, having to be better than human would be a burden to some people. However, they live in a world where there are serious MONSTERS to fight and crazy murderous superbeings, so her dad is right.
Meanwhile, this daughter is like "Oh, dad just wants me to save New York again, well fuck him and his pressure" while she does coke and modeling as people get death rayed into oblivion. My point is that her teenage attitude doesn't make much sense because the pressures her family put on her are about massive life and death issues. She would have to be retarded not to get it.
So, it's forced illogical drama about family issues in the face of being a superhero.

I'm only to episode 5. I'm continuing to watch because the back story of the Dad and mystery of the Super powers is interesting.

Well I mean Netflix has the money.
But if instead of spending almost $300 mill on crappy Adam Sandler movies and $400 million on what is probably going to be a mediocre knives out sequel they spent it on good stuff, they might have had a better reputation by now.
Then again even when they invest the money it somehow doesn't show.
The Witcher was supposedly like $10 million per episode which is pretty high for TV, and it somehow still looked like a CW show

Yes, it's well acted and has a serious tone that I like and the backstory is interesting but eight episodes is bullshit for this kind of story. I have three episodes to go and I assume that it's going to be all backstory in a world that sounds extremely dangerous.
So, the extreme world is a footnote compared to a girl with daddy issues.
It's sort of good but it's a disguise for a way to make a cheap show.
