Wreckfest PS5: What's the deal with the anisotropic filtering? (Update: Hotfixed)

Update:

Dust-by-Monday Dust-by-Monday Full patch log:

Also, by the way, both versions are set to the same time of day (Clear Afternoon), so any changes you see to the lighting were changed by the devs.

Look at how blurry the road is just in front of the car and also look at the stripes on top of the car, it's like the game is using 1x AF.

It was so distracting to me I could hardly play the game last night. The 60fps feels great, but the main area you look at while playing is the road ahead and it's all a giant blur.

Yeah, I knew something was off and funny looking. In comparison to PS4 version, the PS5 version is a garbage.

Hopefully they'll fix it, I'm in no rush to play the PS5 version, especially with the save transfer not working (yet).

This game is a labor of love for Bugbear, they've been making constant tweaks, adjustments and additions to it since it was called "Next Car Game" and have continued to do so since it officially released as Wreckfest. I'm sure Bugbear will fix it in a patch at some point soon. The issue has already been mentioned on their official forums by fans, along with a few other PS5-specific issues. Wreckfest is what it has become because of the feedback from their passionate fans. They actually DO listen to their fanbase.

Technically, the game isn't supposed to be "officially" released for PS5 until June. They just gave PS+ members advance access to it. I wouldn't be surprised if the PS5 version gets a couple updates before the "official" June release date.

I posted about this in their discord as well as submitted a bug report via their forum. Hopefully they see it. It's super distracting when everything else basically looks so much better than the PS4 version. The frame rate is pretty much rock solid, so that's nice, but the main part of the screen you look at (you know, the road where you're driving) just looks like the PS2.

Yeah I was thinking about that. Maybe the game worked well enough to release it early for PS+, but they probably thought they had more time to tweak things before June 1st and then Sony was like... listen, can we have it a month early?

The loading times are bizarre like others have said. Far slower than they should be/ much slower than they are on Series X.

For me it's more disappointing that the game still doesn't have a split screen multiplayer mode.

Just confirmed on discord: team looking into it and the ps+ is an early version of the ps5 version with not all the features in
I hope that the physical copy won't be with this early version on the disc.

looks like trilinear filtering. This is what it looked like on Dreamcast games. This is what you’d consider not acceptable by today’s standards.

Hope this will be fixed by launch in a month.

Its a fun game but its indeed a very shoddy upgrade. Wouldn't pay 10 bucks for it if I didn't have Plus. Perhaps they'll improve it by June?

Wouldn't this part be blurry as F the further away it was if it was just AF?
But that is blurry! You can see what the real texture looks like on the PS4 version. If you play the game yourself you can see the lines that are closer to you look more like the PS4 version but as they get further away, they blur out. That's AF. Edit: You can see right at the bottom of your circle, the line JUST starting to turn really blurry. It's like half way there. Check it out.

I'm sure they'll fix it. They were probably rushed to release it since Sony wanted it basically a month early. Sucks, but that's the way it goes sometimes. They can't catch everything.

I have the same problem on the pc version. Running at 1440p everything in settings maxed motion blur off. 10700k EVGA 3060ti Ultra.

Oh, that's strange! Thanks for the picture. Is there an anisotropic filtering setting on PC? Maybe you can force it through your video driver?

They just pushed a patch that fixes the anisotropic filtering issue. Loading it up right now to see for myself.

Edit: It's fixed

Good to see its already fixed. Gonna guess is one of the side effects of making the game available on PS+ 1 month before release date.
