Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart – Gameplay Trailer

The last one was the first I have played from the series - I wasn’t super into it, hoping this is better. Also am I tripping the graphics look good but are not totally blowing me away? Regardless glad this is finally getting more press I’m stoked they are doing a demo

even watching at 1080p it looks insane! 4k is lirerally going to be eye melting! sony are killing it even this early in the gen. games like demons souls, spider-man, returnal, ratchet and more after only 6 months. they're always on point when it comes to software. if horizon 2 actually makes it this year, it would probably be the best first year ever for a playstation console. if only i had one!

Insomniac is the most efficient studio Sony has.

honestly I’m starting to think Naughty Dog is highly overrated

TLOU2 was great but also pretty divisive and bloated beyond belief with pretense. It also took like 4 years to develop and wasn’t that ground breaking in terms of gameplay.

they also stopped being a two team studio while insomniac is able to manage that dynamic.

just feels like ND is falling behind

I think Demons Souls would qualify too...apart from being a remake the quality, on a technical level, is next gen quality.
That and others as well(that are multiplats). We can't be completely biased to exclusives. There are several good 3rd party companies out there with the same talent.

Nah. You can't compare a story or choice of main characters as a means to judge the company and their output quality. Unfair.

Stop right there.

Insomniac is efficient as fuck, yes.

However, last gen ND gave us:

TLOU Remastered
Uncharted 4
Uncharted: Lost Legacy
The Last of Us Part II

That is insane output.

And TLOU 2 was a fucking masterpiece on every level.

If Sony has one studio thats even more effieicnt than Insomniac, its Naughty Dog

A lot of people will look at the in-game cinematics to judge the game's graphics which is deceiving. I'm looking at the actual gameplay which is only a few cuts in that trailer.

The FX though are really really nice! Love the explosions and many lights.

Impressive but ND was more impressive in PS3 era.

Uncharted 1,2,3 and TLOU all within 6 years

You know, it's been a long time since I physically had my jaw drop in real life. But it just happened while watching that trailer.

I have a PC gaming rig, so I am used to seeing high end graphics gameplay, but there is something about this game that I just haven't seen before on PC.

If the world is that dense with detail in-game and "4K"60fps, colour me impressed, because that looks frikin amazing!
On Thursday's state of play that question will be answered.

i can judge their output. Insomniac released 2 next gen games within 2 ish years after Spider-Man during a pandemic

naughty dog took 4 years for a game that is a pretty straightforward sequel

they’re good, but not nearly as well managed as Insomniac and it shows

Looks great.

But this brings me to the question: when is the launch(window)-period officially over?
Is half a year later still the console launch window?

Yes? Those aren't CGI FMVs. Insomniac's Ratchet and Clank 2016, Spider-Man cut-scenes were also real-time.
depends on what "mix of gamplay and cinematic footage" means

Yes the the explosions and particles look like the best part from what I’m seeing. I am also judging solely off of the actual gameplay segments as it said it was a mix - it looks good I’m just not completely mind blown at this point

I can't wait. I've just replaying R&C (2016) on the PS5 to finish of the platinum, still so good. This series is like a pure distillation of fun, and every aspect is top quality, so god knows what this will feel like when it is made specifically to take advantage of the PS5. Roll on June...

Same amount of games.

And none on the scale as Uncharted 4, much less TLOU 2.
Games take longer to make now too

Anyway dont want to derail this thread.

Ratchet looks godly. Day 1.

One of the reasons im glad I got a PS5 secured at launch.

TLOU on PS4 is a remaster, not a whole new game.
Lost Legacy is a much smaller game.

So its like 2 and 1/2 games vs 4

But your right, games are longer to make now so it evens it out as they were bigger in scope.
And personally I like Uncharted 4 over the original series and Love ND even more now.

And Yes Ratchet looks awesome. It seems like there adding more action and making it more fresh. Looks like there taking what they learnt from the Spiderman game and adding it to this.

are we really comparing a remaster and a dlc to full fledged games?
Lost Legacy is the same length as everything ND made in the previous gen minus TLOU... Around 10 hours give or take

If it released in the PS3 gen it would be considered a full scale release...

So yes.

And its widely known that games take longer, and are more expensive to make each gen. If ND only releases 2 full AAAA quality games THIS gen, i'd be happy.
I'm not sure why we're acting like devs releasing less games per gen is shocking news.

Santa Monica released 1 game.

Agreed it seems like Insomniac is capable of creating great games in a short amount of time. Whatever ND makes next will be good (although I agree about the slide in recent quality) but it'll likely be 4-6 years from now.

Truly sucks that people have to pick and choose their games. I feel for them. I was like that when I was younger.

I think that dude has his calendar mixed up, games are 6 weeks apart. If he's got time to post on Twitter he ain't that busy.

Yes, the game play looks the same, but the CGI in this is (of course) much better looking.

I get that, but we are getting near the point where it's getting harder to differentiate the two, of course the CGI will always be a higher quality, but the gameplay isn't far off at all, and then when you start bringing into it the warping mechanics and jawdropping setpieces?

This is shaping up to be an excellent game indeed.

I don’t know man, looks a bit too good making me think much is prerendered. I hope I’m wrong.

Uncharted The Lost Legacy is just as long as Uncharted 1 and 3 are, with much higher fidelity visuals, animation, audio, presentation, etc...

.. and about 80% of Naughty Dog's devs made Lost Legacy in just 10 months.

Uncharted 4, Uncharted Lost Legacy, and The Last of Us Part II ... all within just 4 years (by your measure of launch dates.)

Better games, much higher fidelity, longer aka more content to make in each game, too.

Yep, Herman Hurst needs to be replaced by Ted Price.

Since last gen started, insomniac has released

  1. Sunset Overdrive
  2. Ratchet remake
  3. Spiderman
  4. Spiderman Miles
  5. Ratchet

ND has released:
  1. uncharted 4
  2. Uncharted Lost Legacy
  3. The Last of Us 2

Guerrilla Games:
  1. Killzone Shadowfall
  2. Horizon

Sucker Punch
  1. Infamous Second Son
  2. Ghost of Tshushima

SSM
  1. God of War

It's not even close. I think a lot of that has to do with managing the length of the game. Their open world game was 15-20 hours. Their linear games are 8-10 hours. I want quality over quantity. I have no idea why linear games like TLOU2 and GoW need to be 30 hours long. Why Days Gone, Ghost and Horizon had to be 40 hours long. Even U4 was way too long at 15-20 hours for its single player campaign. Biggest complain for that game was its pacing. Not everyone likes padded games.

For somebody on a perm-ban warning for console warring, you sure find a way to turn every hype thread and every bidy of excitement into console warring opportunities.

This thread was going great at the start, everybody hyped for an awesome trailer and the coming State of Play and you've taken every opportunity to turn hype into warring in this thread.

All on a perm-ban warning after your last perm got turned into a 30 day or whatever. The Playstation community here doesn't need that baiting bullshit and you need to grow up.
