Hmm ? Jeff in interview said dg2 was in development but also Jason article is true (just not that dread and gloomy as sony still gives flexibility for it studios)

It could be possible that they put it on hold to do something else. I guess that's possible since Sonys 1st parties are known to help each other out when needed.

Jason made it seem like Jim turned the studio into a naughty dog sweat shop.

Jeff Ross came across as a patient, honest, and smart guy in the interview.. who is under NDA lol.

Basically:
- yes Days Gone 2 was cancelled
- yes Days Gone sold well, made money
- no Bend is not a support studio
- yes Bend did/are working with Naughty Dog in some limited respect
- can't say exact numbers about Days Gone unless Sony say it, cuz NDA

Whether DG2 is in development or not is subjective too.

Most people think of development as a bunch of coders sitting in front of a PC doing art and audio.

Technically, all DG2 had to do to claim it's being worked on is a bunch of guys sitting at a table and doing some basic story, plot and ideas and putting it in a Word document.

I like the work of Schreier like when he talk of crunch in different studios but he loves to be the Star like if
he was the person who will save the industry or something like that and be careful if your doubt about one
of his articles, he will attack you and call you fanboy.

Also he more than one time take some topic or fact and transform it in a bad thing for example:

Bend Studio helping ND: sorry is not weird that in a big company related to software development your
team probably will help another project because is more urgent.

Days Gone 2 canceled because the critics even when sells well: so basically for Sony is more important the
quality than the sells, in which world this is a bad thing?

Sony is obsess with AAA blockbuster: not shit Sherlock in the next episode he 's going to tell us about how
Xbox obsess with Gamepass or Nintendo with sell products related to Mario

In CDPR some employes talk in Polish so they can make fun of other coworkers: this is paranoia, they now
can never speak their main language.

Thanks for the summary.

So what exactly is the outrage here with all this ?

A developer got moved around to help/assist with a project. A potential sequel to an OK game got canned. What is the outrage ?

Are Sony in danger of arrogance, like they were off the success of the PS2 when they released the PS3. 🤔
No. Maybe optically it looks that way - but part of being arrogant is being oblivious to the competition around you.

This is what Jim Ryan said ~ one year ago to Wired.

"The track record of the incumbent platform winning the next time around is not a great one. So the major thrust of my executive energy is to avoid complacency."

He's aware.

People are against bad ideas, it is in our nature: for example, in the beginning of the pandemic, some people laughed or claimed to be an invention of the media to make people afraid ...

Returning from the analogy, I was one of the many who laughed at him when he said that Horizon Zero Dawn would come out for the PC ... Who has more reason? the game director or a journalist, well there it is, something that for me it was impossible to have a PlayStation exclusive on the PC ... And he got it right when everyone laughed at the impossible.

But there he is again making a great text for industry lovers and people like a frog in a pan heating "no and nothing is just a little warm".

I think the issue with Sony isn't that they are complacent it's just that they communicate when they want to which isn't often. It's why there's this image of Sony doing nothing when I'm pretty sure they have plenty going on that we are not aware of.

I can't read your fucking post...like at all. I've had numerous cracks at it too.

I've said this time and time again.

Where is this 'BAD MEDIA COVERAGE' that gets repeated ad nauseum in all these Sony doom and gloom posts over the past few weeks. Sony is barely saying anything and has been radio silent for the past few months so what bad media coverage is everyone talking about here ?

If its trolling then it has to be the most ambitious widespread level of trolling since Xbox360/PS3 days.

Jason's response found in the replies

I can understand wanting to stick to your guns and defend the veracity of your sources, but Jason is just making himself come off like a fucking goon here.

Calling Jeff a liar outright is just straight up toxic... then he has the balls to rant on twitter about toxic platform fanboys.

Well Jason... toxicity begets toxicity. If you don't like toxic fanboys coming for you on Twitter, don't be so fucking toxic yourself.

Jason has always been a brat. i remember when he posted this gif that shows games only render what your eyes can see, and developers mocked him for not knowing the basics of videos games. Ben Kuchera did an article defending him, and he went nuts calling him names and acted like a complete fool. even back then i knew this was a bad look from someone who is supposedly a professional journalist.

New ND IP Teaser? We'll, I doubt they show off Factions AND tease a new IP.
looks like we might not be getting a new IP but ND is definitely working on the next uncharted, and not just factions and tlou remake.
Yes, they were supporting ND's multiplayer game and also working on a new Uncharted, as my article says. The problem, from some Bend developers' perspective, was that the new Uncharted was also being developed with creative supervision from Naugthy Dog -- supervision that, as often happens, became more pronounced over time. The fear at Bend that it would become ND North was very real and had very strong rationale. Now that they're off Uncharted and doing something new of their own, there's less fear, but as the article makes clear, the whole thing has left some scars.

so if we get an uncharted 5 teaser with visuals like what EA showed.. i'll be happy.

I’ve said this before in reference to some chats I’ve had w/ Sony peeps: people underestimate the clusterfuck that is unifying your brand/biz ops under a single roof (merging SCEA/SCEE/SCEJ) during a new launch cycle. A lot of the PR/Marketing work happens over a 1.5-2 year period, and when you scrap plans to make sure your marketing works for all regions/your timelines are condensed, you end up with inconsistent messaging.

That’s not the only issue, but it’s a lot more significant than people may think

The Days Gone 2 cancelled story is bizzare. Why would Sony choose the title for a PC port if it were a dead franchise with no future? Money is not the answer, true money is in continuation of an ip.
Money is the answer..
Pretty easy to port the game over to PC (x86 architecture says hello) therefore it is an easy money grab. Easier than making a second game IMO

No need to develop a whole new game etc. for probably 2-5 million extra sales

I don't think ND is working on Uncharted, Neil said they were done with the franchise and Sony would not give Uncharted at Bend if ND was interested in making it.

The new San Diego team is still there because there is job offers for it and they are saying that they are building a new team. So maybe it's them who will make a new Uncharted.

You are right. Sony sales now 6mln premium TV per year with price ~2500USD (OLEDs) instead of 20mln TVs with price 800USD (LED LCD). In Europe people love at now to buy 77inch AG9 OLED (4000USD).

Yep, they have done a smart move focusing premium and over 1000usd TV, avoiding fighting with low expensive Chinese TV. They sell less but with good margin. That's one of the problem now encountered by Samsung for example.

You generally invest and plan beyond what’s right in front of you. If Sony categorically knows Days Gone is a one hit wonder, supporting it is an odd choice vs many other franchises that can be sold now and into the future. Such decisions don’t live in a vacuum.

My take away is that Days Gone 2 coming is a forgone conclusion under the circumstances.

Exactly, the games most likely didn't sell that well in Sony's eyes, hence the decision to make a quick port and squeeze as much sales/profit as possible, same for Death Stranding. Like I said some time before, I think Sony simply ports the games whenever sales aren't growing anymore, like the mentioned two that didn't storm the market, to say the least, or Detroit and HZD which had their time and whoever with a PS4 wanted to play them already did.
