What’s price of PS5 games got to do with gamepass ?I’m okay with first party PS5 games being $70.
It makes me chuckle as I see what’s on Gamepass.
Like the woke revolution in games publishers and censorship keep taking it as a console war point and focus on the tip of the iceberg... Cost of making games has increased and not all publishers are all on the extreme micro transactions money train. Most games on PC do a discount for a week or two at release. Works out pretty well.
I don't pay $60 and I would never pay $70. Sony needs a reality check.
Imo, it depends.I will never, ever pay $70 for a videogame

Imo, it depends.
I can pay 80E for huge games like Gran Turismo 7, GoW 2 or HZD2, but 80E for Returnal, Sackboy or R&C?
AAA(A?) games for 80 E? Ok.
Rest od them? No.
There were games back then for N64 and SNES that did cost 80 bucks too.
If you count in inflation it's about the same now.
Buy a Series XWhat do you think?
Accept this new reality or find a new hobby. Your idea ain't gonna fly.
You're saying that charging more will get them less money? Are you high?If you ask me, making games 70 dollars and 80 euro was a mistake...pricing some people out of day 1 sales and working against the marketing push that goes hand in hand with launch.
When people don't get a game on day 1, they are more and more likely to wait for significant sales, resulting in large amounts of lost profit.
I think Sony should try and do discounts in reverse (not that it hasn't been done before) and offer games at 60 dollars and 65-70 euro for the launch week and then revert to the higher price after that week.
What do you think? Do you have any other ideas to get more people in on day 1? (PlayStation Gamepass is not an acceptable answer)
I could see this working for games that would be seen as a launch week risk to buy to try and get some early sales that they wouldn't have otherwise got. Any big games however that are guaranteed number 1 best sellers such as your God of Wars, Horizons or Last of Us would have no incentive to discount day one as they know people are hyped and would buy it launch week anyway. They'd have been priced out anyway cause the new basic price was 70 anyway.
You could look at it as a discount for taking the week 1 risk.
I just don't think PS will ever go back on the official price, so this is what I would propose to them...
True, there would be no point with those...I could see this working for games that would be seen as a launch week risk to buy to try and get some early sales that they wouldn't have otherwise got. That sounds awesome, I'd love that. Retail also needs something going for them.... so that is great from their perspective too.I always think this should be the case. We all want a healthy industry and there needs to be better approaches. Even in retail. If I had the power general changes I would make
20% discount on preorders (orders placed before the game releases)
Retail can sell physical copies 2 days before digital storefronts updated
Digital loses the 'tax' due to the above
True, those oldies often have much more replay value. My point is, back then the prices came from the carts and extra hardware that often was in them, today it comes from the high production values of modern games. I think games priced at 80 bucks and still have microtransactions and loot boxes are very problematic, otherwise, I am fine with it.I don’t feel like a lot of the story driven games that you play through once or twice in your life are unmissable classics like the Legend of Zelda: alltp, Street Fighter 2, and Mario 64. Also, the price of carts.
You also have to consider the market. I remember when some of the first TV shows on DVD were over $100 per season. That price point changed drastically as more shows became available.

Now that games are $70, I'll keep doing what I usually do and wait for the titles to drop in price.
People can justify it in any way they want, I decide how much I pay for a game, not the companies.
Best Buy had this thing called GCU that was essentially similar to what you're describing at least with regards to physical copies. Amazon sort of matched them for a while. Then Gamestop joined the fun. Then one by one they all abandoned each of these plans. Without knowing the particulars of why my guess was that margins are/were too tight to justify it, or at least that would be the excuse.
Depends on the platform. MS can’t raise the prices of their games if they have no games to put out which, based on their pitiful launch lineup, they don’t.Is playing on a different console considered a different hobby?
Sony reading this thread...Yeah, even I can't say no to R&C day 1.
Lmao, that you think Nintendo won't hop onto this. They are charging $60 for a game that is a minimal remaster of a decade old game. Them charging $70 is an inevitability, especially as they witness reports of the industry being up YoY and software sales being undeterred. As for MS, I'm not going to speak for them. But can speak for major 3rd publishers like Activision and 2K, who reported sales unphased by by the hike.Neither Microsoft nor Nintendo are doing $70 games. Sony stand alone in this.
And with that pricing, I don’t see them creating an option as enticing as Gamepass.
Sony choosing to stick out in this way makes them deserving negative comparisons.
ExactlyYes the fact remains and will continue to remain (even if all digital) that you can get great games on sale, as long as you dont want to be there on day 1.

To some people, I think so...Is playing on a different console considered a different hobby?
