PS5 exclusives drove me to buy Xbox Series X — here’s why

But at that point consumers will reevaluate its worth. Sure I expect them to raise by a dollar or two occasionally but if it loses its value, the service will also suffer. I seriously doubt it ever loses its value, especially as more robust competition comes from Amazon, etc.

Reevaluating its worth may not be of much use for those choosing one console/platform over another based on a monthly service that may change at any time. It's a bad decision IMO.
Similarly, I also hope no one bought a PS4 or PS5 based on whatever is being offered on Plus right now.
People should be choosing a console based on which games they want to play.

As for Gamepass, I don't expect it to raise by a dollar or two. I think by the time Microsoft needs to make money with Gamepass they will create different subscription tiers, and I expect the tier that covers day-one AAA releases from Bethesda like Elder Scrolls 6 and Doom Infinite to cost over $25/month.

The issue with game pass right now is the service does not have any exclusive games that blow PS exclusives out the water, if money isn't a issue for you when it comes to buying the games you want then game pass does not seem all that special.

Once Game pass gets more great exclusive games that is when this debate should be discussed because right now PS5 has better games at the moment and most of the games found on game pass could be purchased in the PSN store for cheap.

We can't really judge Game Pass in terms of pricing right now and how it will compare to the traditional ways of gaming because at the moment what Microsoft is trying to do is grow the service. Once that happens and things start to settle and only then will we really see the actual cost of Game Pass. Many people have signed up via deals or through the Xbox All Access program which gives you 2 years with it (you do pay for it so its not free).

And don't forget that one of the benefits of Xbox Game pass hasn't really come to pass in a substantial way yet. MS studio future games day and date on the service.

The OP does not even mention the 3rd party titles. Game Pass gets all the top 3rd party titles too so you never miss out on anything!
Is that really the case though? If we look at some of the top third-party games for the new generation so far, AC: Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, Cyberpunk, etc. all skipped Gamepass as far as I’m aware.

Game pass is a good deal. Having both systems, i can definitely see how thr added value of it pushes people toward xbox, Though microsoft is severely lacking in compelling next gen exclusives.

Alongside scoring a Series X this week, I picked up 3-years of Game Pass Ultimate for £120, which is less than the cost of two first-party PS5 games.

Gears 5, state of decay 2, crackdown 3 (gross) and forza horizon 4 were all day and date on gamepass so far

This gen just started. I am talking about the PS4 / Xbox One gen. Skipped? Every game you just named will come to Game Pass. Thats just how it works.

But they are already getting old and if anyone wants to play them since they’ve been out, Gamepass is not an option. You said Gamepass gets ALL the 3’rd party games, but that’s just not the case.

Getting old? That does not make sense. If you have not played a game it is a new game for you when ever you get the chance to play it. Why are there threads on this site every month about Xbox Gold and PS Plus games? Every month threads about announced Game Pass games? LTTP threads? What gamer only buys / plays games only at release day only?

I swear the different downplays you all " TRY " to come up with. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

These journalists will never realize that you get what you pay for. Yes, $70 for a game is ridiculous but you cannot have the same quality games for $10 a month either. It's simply not sustainable.
Yes it's either more games like The Medium.

Or a price hike in order to reach profitability.

My guess is that Microsoft chooses the latter.

No my point was you were mentioning the 3’rd party aspect of Gamepass as a selling point saying that ALL third-party games go to Gamepass. I don’t think that’s true. Even when a third-party game has been out for a while, I don’t think Gamepass gets all of them. It certainly does get a decent number of them eventually though.

I also thought you were speaking more on day and date or at least getting third-party games soon after release on Gamepass.

If you meant that eventually they may or may not go there once they have been out for a while, then sure I agree and I misunderstood your point.

That's why I game on the PC, if anyone is paying £70 for a single game, then you are part of the problem...

I personally would never pay more than £40 for a AAA (and I no longer pre-order or buy collectors editions either, all a scam). If all did that, they would lower the prices pretty quickly.

Boohoo, so they'll have to reduce their bloated marketing budget or futile and self indulgent woke depts that hurt far more than they help anyway.

Maybe they'll be forced to actually make a great game and focus only on that, so no diversity hires or sjw twitter accounts. No paying untalented people small fortunes to indoctrinate their staff in how to be bigoted towards straight white men!

what? more than 25$ month? lol no no man. it will never ever happen to go over 20$ month for the GP top tier (netflix premium is 17.99$ after how many years?). Any Company that manages a monthly paid services know that a certain threshold cannot be exceeded before reaching a price level that causes the interest of the people to collapse. And certainly before raising the price they must make sure that the population is held back during the rise so you will never see swings for more than 2/3 $. Just take Netflix, Spotify and everything else as an example.

No, with more users it will easily reach a level of sustainability. if the price is raised it will be something like $ 18 for the ultimate tier. who thinks that gamepas will cost something like 25 $ month he's completely out of his mind. Nobody in the world would pay that amount to play games. we know that, anyone who runs subscription services knows it, and Microsoft knows it too

If it’s just the top third-party games, I still don’t think it’s all of them. But we can say that if you like. Eventually, it may be true if enough time passes.

My point was not to try and downplay Gamepass. But I honestly do think that if someone is into third-party games and has their eye on an upcoming release of one, it’s not a very good selling point to tell them to wait a year or two and it might come to Gamepass. And the same goes for any similar platform such as PSNow. I think most people are going to want to play it when it comes out, when it’s being talked about in media, when it’s being streamed, etc.

By the time they reach GP they are so cheap you might as well buy them or get them on PSPlus or Epic like Control, Vampyr, Tomb Raider, Remnant, FFXV, Rage 2, Blair Witch etc.

Even MS games are dirt cheap for less than 10$ and Gears5 was just on gwg. It's not worth paying a subscription for that. I have Gamepass for years (1$ trick) and I go by months without even looking at it.

It's only worth it for new clueless gamers who think they are saving money because they don't know all the deals out there.

As soon as Xbox has a truly next gen exclusive as good as Demon's Souls on Game Pass he should let the readers know.

It might, uhhhh ... be a very long time.

Side note: His analogy only works when Blockbuster and Netflix have the same content. If you can only get The Godfather, ChinaTown, Alien, Blade Runner, Apocalypse Now and Heat from Blockbuster, while Netflix only has Weekend At Bernie's, Meatballs, and Encino Man - Blockbuster is absolutely in no danger.

Content is king.
Bravo on a Meatballs reference.

This is Feb so add up the cost of every game and let me know how much it is compared to playing $15 for Game Pass

Gaming isn't a right, therefore "barrier to entry" doesn't even matter
I’m pretty sure it’s a right. Commercial content has a paywall but it’s a right to have things to do on Earth and there’s not too many fun things to do. Socialism should include free games but like they need to be quality. OTA is free. Free games are free. You just have to have a barrier to enter in a capitalistic society. It’s not hard to buy a tv, console, and rent from gamefly.

Game pass is the greatest thing to happen to gaming. Whether you know it now or fight resistance until you finally cave. It's pretty inevitable.
Microsoft has yet to make a dollar from gamepass. And all their exclusives launching day one on it have been ass so far save for forza. Let me know the long term greatness of Microsoft’s take on subscription gaming.

Anyway, is it now official? the new "ms has no games" that begins to be used less in case with the new acquisitions it turns out things will really change, it has become the concern on gamepass profitability? ahhaah

How about just not buying games when they release? Wait for the inevitable price drops? Which usually only takes a few weeks for the vast majority of games.

The Sony marketing machine is very strong even without considering exclusive games.

My friend bought exactly one PS4 exclusive last gen (Horizon) and played it for about an hour before discarding it and still turned his nose up at XSX and waited for PS5 to come back in stock. He plays mainly Fifa, COD, AC and indie games so I think he would be better with XSX & Gamepass but who am I to say.
Games he’d still have to buy if he wanted them on launch or at all because they are neither never coming to gamepass or not for a while
Cod Cold War: $70
Assassins creed Valhalla: $60
FIFA 21 with discount from ultimate discount applied: $54
Year of game pass ultimate: $180
Total: $364 for the games your buddy actually wants to play

ps5

Cod: 70
Ac: 60
FIFA: 60
Ps plus: 60
Total: $250 leaving your friend over 100 bucks to spend on indies as he sees fit rather than wait for them to maybe go to gamepass.

So you are trying to convince your friend to spend a over 100 bucks a year more for the only added bonus being a bunch of gamepass games he probably wont touch?
