The PS5 is making me hate PC Gaming (techradar article)

I too rate the pc experience poorly, apart from my arcade cab powered by winblows xp.

PC used to be the best when I was younger and had the time, these days it’s all about relaxation and convenience. Everyone is different.

I’m not paying 1200 dollars just to do that. My pro played it just fine at 4k be it checker-boarding or whatever so I'm not actually worried at all about it.
Well, I've played both - you're missing out.

Granted, it's a shame you need three arms and four legs to pay for the damn card now...

I do, I don't care about others tho... Actually I have my PC connected to my TV and my monitor, so if I want to play M+K or controller, on the couch or the chair, I can have any combination of those... I guess Xbox Series will do something some time, I hope so at least

Console gaming is easier and more affordable, in other news 💧 is liquid. I also like to game in front of big ass TV, something PC gamers never do even though they always like to say they can. Plug and play.

4K quality ? Lol, yeah, with variable resolution... Only Astrobot run at native 4K all the time on PS5 right now...

This is pure horse shit. All the Spiderman games run at native 4K and so does Bloodborne, Sackboy and a myriad of other PS5 games.

You can reduce the resolution for locked 60fps with raytracing on in Spiderman MM and Miles Morales but they both run Native 4K/30 with RT On in the standard mode.

PCs are stronger but there's no need to lie to attempt to shit on the PS5. The PS5 is a pretty powerful box for $400. You're not going to get performance like that anywhere on PC for that price.

Prove it.
C'mon man, don't do this. You're making yourself look dumb. A 10 second google search proves instantly that your claim that Sackboy is the only Native 4K PS5 game is totally false and bullshit.

There's more games but these are the few I was able to pick from easily available DF video analysis.

I honestly cant fathom why console only peeps care about pcs enough to crap on them or compare their machines to pcs. Nothing in the pc space effects consoles at all. So what if enthusiasts spend a lot on beefy machines to get better frames/resolution? If you like consoles then good for you.

On the other hand things that happen in the console space DO effect the pc players because consoles generally set the tone for multiplatform games (lowest common denominator). PC players love new consoles because it means their machines get to utilize more of their power due to more advanced games.

PC peeps also hate new consoles because the shit talking from the peanut gallery starts up anew.

Just play were you like and stop trying to justify/validate your purchase. Puffing out your bird chest to stan some corporation is embarrassing.

Not necessarily a stupid argument but did she just mention Cyberpunk as a game better optimized on PS5? And the Medium which is not even on PS5?

I read it twice and IDK how you reach that conclusion. When does it's says that the PS5 runs better Cyberpunk or The Medium? Is says the PS5 have better game optimization (in some titles). It dosen't refer to Cyberpunk or The Medium.

Because they are actually enthusiasts, but feel a need to convince themselves that they made the right decision. Basically this:

PC+Quest 2 is a radical combo. Throw on ample amounts of cloud gaming(GeForce Now, PSNow, xCloud) and my gaming time is already oversaturated. I've decided to hold out for a possible smaller, black PS5 Pro in 2-3yrs.
Yup. The PS5 is just a dumbed down PC.

But a Quest 2 + PC is a true Next-Gen experience.

Yeah, maybe once the TRUE Playstation exclusives pile up, I'll consider a PS5 slim in a few years. Maybe.

I wonder how many people read the OP, but completely didn't realise the fact that he posted an article, not his own opinion.

It literally says "source" at the top of the post 😅😂

I've owned both a PS4 and a gaming PC for many years now, but my computers have always won the title of being my favorite gaming hardware, often leaving my PS4 gathering dust for months on end. Knowing I could only afford one, I had a decision to make: do I buy a PS5 now, or save up for a shiny GeForce RTX 3090 and CPU upgrade?

It seemed like an obvious choice at the time. I'm now kicking myself.

Since these GPUs have hit the market we've seen games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Watchdogs: Legion, and The Medium released, giving us the opportunity to test this groundbreaking computing hardware for ourselves. And each time, be it down to overly demanding software or lack of optimization for PC, I'm left disappointed.

Before the games were even released, we were seeing some fairly alarming system requirements to play the latest AAA titles. It was reported this week by DSOG that the Medium couldn't run at a consistent 60fps on a PC equipped with an Intel i9-9900K and an RTX 3080, even on standard 1080p quality and ray tracing switched off. And the optimization issues faced by The Medium are hardly unique.

PC gaming feels like a constant uphill battle to evolve and accommodate the very latest in computing technology, combining a love for tech tinkering with a gaming hobby for many. You need to put consistent effort, money, or both into being a PC gamer because a large reason people might choose a computer over a console is the ability to experience games in the highest achievable quality.

And yet, PS5 owners can now experience 4K quality, better game optimization (in some titles), and haptic feedback in the DualSense controller for significantly less than a comparable gaming computer would cost to buy or build. One of the biggest reasons I (and many others) will also be buying a PS5 is because of the Sony Exclusive titles.

When the PS5 showcase announced Horizon: Forbidden West, Demon's Souls and God of War: Ragnorak, I excitedly noted them as titles to look forward to playing when I could eventually buy the console myself. Now that the first few months of the Nvidia Ampere and AMD 'Big Navi' hardware have passed, I'm left feeling disappointed and envious of my console playing peers.

This is in no way saying that I'll be switching out my gaming PC in favor of a PS5, but I'm firmly stepping down from my high horse for the time being. Until games are better optimized for PC or developers manage their hardware expectations, every game I'm looking forward to in 2021 is currently a PS5-exclusive.
I see nothing here that warrants such a harsh response from pc gaf. I mean the guy literally says hes not switching to the ps5, he's just choosing not to be a miserable son of a bitch gloating about the joys of PC gaming like a jehovah's witness.

I definitely dont agree with everything he's said here, but he's right on most things. Medium, Legion and Cyberpunk have no business performing like that on PC. The optimization on PC was always shit, but this is simply unacceptable. My $700 card from 2 years ago is literally running cyberpunk at sub 10 fps without dlss at everything maxed out. you pretty much have to have dlss on to get a decent 30+ fps even at medium settings. why release RT cards when they buckle under pressure. And cyberpunk isnt the first game to struggle with this. Control came out a year and a half ago, was pretty much the 3rd AAA game to get RT and i had to run it at 960p dlss'd to 1440p to get a stable 60 fps. just shocking. Watch dogs and medium are simply unacceptable because they dont even look as good or are doing anything even remotely impressive as control's destruction.

Not to mention the fact that the next gen cards are selling for inflated prices after finally coming back in stock. I was at microcenter this morning and they were selling 3070s for $750. $50 more than the MSRP of the 3080. The $1,500 3090 was going for over $2,000. the only 3080 ive seen in stock there was $850. Like wtf. $700 is already expensive for a GPU and they are increasing prices even more? imagine if the PS5 got a random $250 price increase. it's nonsense.

I havent even touched my PC since the PS5 came out except to try and fucking run cybperunk at a decent 60 fps framerate without it looking like a blurry mess. Coming from Miles, it was jarring to see an open world game with so called next gen features actually look worse. I decided to shelve it until they patch it and run it on a 3080 in case I get my hands on it.

That said, the PS5 isnt some paradise with no issues. The 60 fps RT mode in Miles looks significantly worse than the 30 fps mode with worse lighting and way fewer crowds. RT reflections are so low res they lose their shine. Demon Souls is only 1440p 60 fps and looks rather soft on my 65 inch tv. Its 30 fps mode is utter shit. way way worse than anything ive played on PC at 30 fps which is saying something. Miles at 30 fps is far more playable.

And lastly, after platinuming demon souls, astro bot and miles, im going through a severe withdrawal. none of the several third party games i bought on the ps5 are doing anything for me. Nvidia ampere and big navi launches have passed, but so has the ps5 launch and there is literally nothing left on the horizon until late in the year when horizon and gow launch. if they dont get delayed.

I think nvidia needs to invest in some games for PC. their stocks are trading at over $500 ffs. double that of microsoft, facebook and on par with netflix. FFS invest in some games that actually take advantage of your hardware and are optimized for them. If Insomniac can get miles to run at native 4k 30 fps with ray tracing on a 10 tflops ps5 then surely their 3080 cards with dedicated rt cores should be able to do so much more. some of the RT on off comparisons they post on youtube are embarrassing because in some cases, rt on actually looks the same if not worse. Flight simulator has shown how amazing PC games can look if they are built on PC specs. i cant believe these fuckers are trying to sell us $1,000 graphics cards without investing in games.

Absolutely. This will probably be true through 2024 at least. It's really not saying all that much, though.

Would you recommend someone buy a used PS4 Pro right now at $250, because it's half the price a PS5 and "good enough?"
Why would I recommend anything? I am just saying that it shouldn't be a debate that the PS5 outperforms a $500 PC.

People with $1000 + PC's shouldn't be comparing their PC to a PS5.

Wait a couple of years until they understand what the hell ray tracing is and a mid range gaming laptop will be future proofed against all PS5 titles for the rest of the generation.

I think last gen already the gfx were pretty good. IMO now it is getting irrelevant. Unless VR and RT are the top priority consoles are good enough.

I'll never know why big media wants the PC platform to die so bad. Maybe because there's no single corporation behind PC gaming and you can't receive big fat checks when reviewing exclusives from a platform holder?

That being said, this generation consoles are a lot more convenient for the console user. Without COVID 19 supply issues the scenario would be selling your old console for like 150 USD in the US, buying a new one for 400 USD (PS5 digital) and by just shelling 250 USD you have a new console and your old games can still be played.

Also consider this, if you built a gaming PC at the start of last generation to match prior gen consoles, lets take my pc built in 2013 as an example: FX 6300 + GTX 760 + 8GB RAM. Other than running new indie games, there's no way this pc can keep up with the new AAA releases. So to play all those I would have to sell it and build a new one from scratch. Yes, I can keep, peripherals, the HDD and the SDD but all the rest has to go and its harder to sell parts than a console.

And one thing many are not taking into account: During last gen, us PC users bruteforced through poor ports all the time. This generation, consoles have really good hardware and software solutions, they are ahead of most PCs from an I/O perspective.
It's going to be much harder to overcome optimization issues as the difference between console HW and high end PCs is not that significant for now.

So I can understand many PC users just getting one of these consoles instead of upgrading their machines. Not for me though, the console ecosystem is terrible and I also love emulation and modding (Xbox has Retroarch now though!!)

No mate, i know there are exclusives but they are not as big as console ones, thats why i asked, maybe some big game i missed? because people were saying big budget games as pc exclusives.. well i dont see them.
Half Life Alyx is not a big game, and i wouldnt count League of Legends. Most PC exclusives are not big budget games.
Rockstar is console company they release their PC games later, all the time.
Naughty Dog - PS
Zelda, Mario - Nintendo
Final Fantasy 7 Remake - PS
Ghost - PS

I mean where are the PC exclusives at? all of them are small budget games compared to those i listed, thats why i made my first comment. Imagine Cybeprunk launched as PC exclusive and no not a multiplatform game that runs well on PC and next gen only, but actual exclusive, now thats would be nuts for PC gaming.

Rockstar - too scripted and on rails
Nuaghty Dog - lol, cinematic movie game sjw bullshit
Zelda,Mario - lol kids games
Final Fantasy - lol thinking FF is a good game
Ghost - lol ubi game in japan

See how easy it is ? Alyx not only is it a massive game, meaning youre talking out of your ass, but its the highest rated game of the year. Never to come on consoles. There you go, you have your wish. Flight Simulator and Crusader Kings 3 round up the trio of pc exclusives that were pushing 90% scores in 2020.

I like how you totally decided based on nothing at all that League Of Legends doesnt count. The most played games in the world by a huge margin are LOL, Dungeon Fighter, Crossfire, etc. All pc exclusives. Yes, PC doesnt have any exclusives if you ignore evey pc exclusive.

Entry level cards are $400?! What?

An RTX 3060ti is $399 MSRP (yeah, I know you can't easily get them). It's better than a 2080 Super, which came out for $699 in July of 2019.
Yep which will max any game at 1080/1440p over 60fps and older games from last yead or before well over 120fps. Hell even the 2060 I got last fall maxes all 1080p games (I don't own Tv/monitor).

PC basically fullfills the role of multiple consoles and older pcs/retro. Any Xbox game is on pc making owning that system pointless. The pc has a way larger library of AAA and indies. It also has niche titles and genres you don't get much on consoles, grand strategy, rts, turn based strar, simulations, war games, VR, emulation of past consoles, can play pc games from the 80s to now.

Oh and way better sales. To me the trifecta is PC, playstation and switch. Plus the switch is cross save with many pc games, divinity os2, witcher, civ 6, etc..

For me personally it’s not easy to find the time to play so I don’t want to waste time because this didn’t work or wasting time at settings.

Console gaming is more convenient and it simply works (Aside from the disaster that is Cyberpunk that is thankfully pulled from consoles store and funny enough from a PC focus developer and probably devs inside CDPR with the same “PC king” mentality and “good enough for a console game” which resulted into this broken product) Also that game is a glitch fest even on PC.

I have yet to see a game better optimize on ps5 compared to a pc with similar specs( aka 5700xt). Worst optimized on ps5 so far i have seen but better no

Face the facts. Pc gaming sucks ass right now.

Cards are so expensive, more than a fucking grand. Yet are not going to last this gen.

There are no games being made for pc anymore that take advantage.

The best looking games are going to be on playstation.

Shiiiiiieeeeeeet.

That’s why I still have my 11 year old PC, I only use it for YouTube or surfing. For games I only use consoles, because I hated it to always tweak every setting until I find the best quality/performance compromise. When I play on consoles the maker found the best setting. I am not even a big fan of the quality or performance mode choice now. I want to play the game, as intended.
