Spider-Man Miles Morales sold 70% less copies than 2018's Spider-Man

Its because the first game just wasn't that good. The fighting system is bad, not fun, a chore.

I feel it’s mostly because most people want to or plan on experiencing it on PS5 and 90% of the world can’t get a PS5 now.

It's still a decent result considering how big of a success the original game was. The price of MM is a serious obstacle imo, it's way too expensive. It should've been priced similar to Uncharted Lost Legacy.

jeez i wonder if anything happened in 2020 that would have made people have less money.

i mean it's not like there was a global pandemic and entire industries like the film industry were shut down.

its not like millions of people were ordered to stay home and not work and only given $1200 to last them for the rest of the year.

oh wait IT IS EXACTLY LIKE THAT!!!

It was marketed as a PS5 title, so I'm sure most people are not even aware it's also on PS4. It's also not the original Spiderman, it's a smaller game. There are many reasons.

Oh shit very clever, pointing out that I mention race in a post where I very explicitly mention race. Can’t sneak anything past you huh?

Just wait, some game journalist dipshit is going to write the article about how this game’s low sales are “yet another symptom of the inherent racism in the gaming and/or comics community even today” and totally ignore the fact that spin-off DLC games never sell as well as the main ones.

I'm 100% sure there'll be "someone" on planet Earth that will write that article. But that would be a person in a sea of many that "aren't" writing that article. So whom should we focus on? The 5% of gaming journalists or the huge majority?

while Spider-Man was a good game (I platinumed it after all) it wasn't special.

it was a more polished rendition of the Spider-Man formula as it already existed in many older Spider-Man games like Amazing Spider-Man 2 or even older games.

and open world Spider-Man is always set in new york, it always has very similar mission structures and controls, no matter who makes the games.

I guess people aren't interested in yet another one. especially since it's not even a full in sequel but something in-between a sequel and a DLC.

add to that that the first game also had 2 full campaign DLCs and I get why people are not interested.

I also haven't played or bought it yet for exactly the reasons I mentioned
They also marketed it real heavily for PS5 and a lot of people I talked to didn't even realize it was out on PS4.

the game will have legs and i doubt they're worried about it...personally i'm having more fun with it than the OG spider-man...running through it again on NG+ in fidelity mode this time

Cuz Spider Man isn't black.

Just kidding, but half serious. Also, is this counting digital sales? If not, then I wouldn't take it serious. Plus smaller installed base, so it makes sense.

The install base is actually bigger for this game if you include the PS4. But there in lies the problem. Most want it on the PS5.

Main reason is people want to play it on PS5. I have PRO but I skipped PS4 version but couldn't secure a PS5. I am sure a huge percentage of people are waiting just like me
Pretty much my reason as well. I'll be getting a PS5 soon enough so I'll just wait for that version.

Spider-Man sold a ton through bundles on BF. I don’t think even a fully fledged sequel would match it.

Maybe if Sony starts bundling it for the next couple holidays with the PS5.

Sony did an AWFUL job marketing this game! They cut the damn legs of the game by not announcing it as a PS4 game!

Makes sense (if true, these are just estimates, I doubt Sony supplies real data to Superdata)

I bet at least some of this is "future PS5 owners" skipping out on the game because the only way to get the remaster of the 2018 game is via a $70 PS5 edition.

They aren't gonna buy it until they have a PS5 and are hoping the price is lower because they also want the remaster.

Beat it just now. Pretty cool, I'm not a big fan of Marvel but I really liked it mainly because of the traversal, swinging feels just great, looks and runs so good in Performance RT mode. There is much that still can be done in tweaking collision with different surfaces and different angles so I'm curious how that improves in the sequel.

Study shows that 70 percent of gamers don't like good games. Details after this commercial break.

No, but I understand. It probably should have launched at 30 bucks solo and 50 bucks for the ultimate edition with SM:R included. It's short. No argument here....

But it's great. It's a great time and I thoroughly enjoyed my two playthroughs. Easy plat.

Price is a little steep for basically an expansion.

Game really is stunning on PS5 though. If you haven't played it yet, definitely give it a shot whenever it drops to a price you deem acceptable.

It's one of those games that just has me smiling a lot, just like SM 2018 did

Except video game sales are up massively in 2019.

I don’t have a ps5, I loved the first game, i know the PS4 version is sub par compared to ps5, I’d rather wait till I get a ps5 to play it......

I think their is a lot of people like me

30% of 18 million is still 5.4 million tho, which is honestly very good for a story expansion.

They were comparing it to Spiderman LTD sales, right?
No this is Superdata's estimates for digital sales of both games for their first month on the market.

They estimate Spiderman 2018 sold 2.2 million, and MM a bit over 600k, digitally, during their launch months.

After finishing my first playthrough with Remaster, Miles Morales is in on the bottom of the pile.

I had so much spider man with the first game that I felt like enough was enough. Too much filler that dulled the fun, with a lot of story missions that were not the good stuff either. Why wouldn't you wait until you had a PS5 with a sale price?

I mean... they knew this before they released it, right? If you target a minority then your sales are obviously going to follow that.

Didn't pick it up due to me getting bored with the first one and Miles Morales looking to be a very similar experience. I also finished Spider-Man just recently so wasn't keen on jumping back in for a sequel. Will probably grab it a few years down the lane when it's cheap. Got so many games already, I'm booked for the whole of 2021 already.

That's what I thought too, but it's actually different enough that I'm not even phased by just coming off playing Spider-Man Remastered.

To give some context, Spider-Man Remastered was the first game I played on PS5 (so I started it what, probably 2 weeks ago), I just beat it (after putting in probably the same amount of time you did), and I just started playing Miles Morales.

The game released on PS4 and PS5, what's the reason behind this big decline in sales? for me i didn't buy it because i was already tired of Spider-Man after spending more than 30 hours on the original game, i think Sony made a mistake releasing it too close to the original game.

Similar. I played through the main story, enjoyed it greatly, but that was it - I had zero interest in completing sidequests and other tasks, because the gameplay mechanics just can’t sustain my interest for more than 25-30 hours. I basically have zero interest in playing other SM games unless they totally reshape how the game is played.

No shit. A DLC pretending to be a full game pretending to be a Nextgen title. Fuck dat noise.

Character is a whack too, but most ppl don't care who's under the mask as long as they play as Spidey.

The only reason I even got it was because it came with the PS5 bundle I snagged from Gamestop (along with Demons Souls).
So happy I kept it, I beat both the original and DLC and now MM, really great games.

I just finished the original spiderman 2 days ago. I had left it at 50% completion during a year because i found it boring. then i tried it agin but playing differently : Without playing side missions. and it was so much better. actually enjoyed it. open worlds are 100% not for me.
miles morales is really early, wether it’s a ful sequel or not ihmo.

Does the lack of sales translate into those people who got it for "free" for PS5?

Still, not great numbers, but as another poster said, it's a glorified DLC. I thought it was good, but nowhere near as good as the 1st game.
