It's a great game, but after trying it on PS5, damn I wished I waited to play it...

It won the vote, it's not the end of the world and well deserved. I'm sure TLOU 2 will still pick up plenty of accolades at the show itself and from other outlets. I really don't see the big deal in the context of TLOU 2 fans claiming Ghost wasn't deserving of it.

I'm so glad my dream game is getting recognition it deserves!

I still haven't tried the multiplayer because there's so much to play at the moment and I haven't played online in recent years.

This game is popular online every where I post(game forums/anime forums/jp forums/psn/twitter etc). People thinking it's just trolls are fooling themselves. Yes internet trolls exist and the hate train is real for TLOU2 but people thinking that's just it haven't been paying attention and don't know to what degree the haters had a role. Shoot, even on Psnprofiles, Ghost has remained in the top 10 of popular games of the week since the game launched. Yet here we are all the way in December. People talk about TLOU2's high game beaten rating, well Ghost has the highest platinum completion of this generation in terms of PlayStation exclusive I think. Clearly a lot of people love this game and if you would know that if you weren't so fixated on the Neil nonsense.

Another victory for cultural appropriation!

Luckily, Japan isn't nearly as oversensitive as some in the west about that. As a matter of fact, they're usually really happy to see foreigners celebrating their culture, so much that a popular TV show dedicated an episode to Ghost of Tsushima just a couple of weeks ago.

In other words: you said something extremely dumb. Good job.

There were a lot of big games on this list, how do a bunch of indie and FTP games invalidates it?

The fact that a bunch of actually relevant games (Microsoft Flight Simulator is an example) weren't in the list, showing that the jury that decided the nominees didn't have a very clear idea of what they were doing. Mind you, GOT's win is entirely deserved, but the pool of games included in the vote was.. just not very good.

As an aside, I think the fact that 3 out of the top 5 were PS First Party titles can finally put to bed this nonsense that their games are "overhyped by the media and not loved by players" we keep hearing.

I'm on the third section now, and I'm loving it.

No, it's because The Game Awards just ate a lot of BIGOT SANDWICHES

Not even on my short list (got bored a few hours in but intend to try again some time next year), but congrats to SP as it seems to have done very well and was very well received.

I would have felt sorry for the people of Naughty Dog seeing their hard work was not appreciated by gamers.

But then I remembered that Neil Druckmann is an ass.

Gamers have spoken. Whether or not The Last of Us 2 wins Game of the Year is moot now.

by voting it second?

Ghost of Tsushima, Persona 5 and The Witcher are the best games of this generation.

I played it having a blast every five minutes. Amazing setting, amazing cast, amazing world, and a really good story.

The only thing about it that bothers me is that there is a lack of beautiful female characters. I guess that there is only Yuna and the other is Ishikawa's Pupil, can't remember her name.

My first play through took 60 hours. And it was too fast fun thing is that I really hate long games).

Best game of the year so far. Cyber punk might be better but I'm not into first person games.

Congratulations to SPP.

It's really hilarious to see people whining about the fact that some may have voted for reasons extraneous to honoring the best game.

Here's a newsflash for you all: people do that all the time, and it applies to ALL the games involved. You seriously don't understand that plenty have definitely voted for TLO2 because it fits their ideas? Or for Hades because it's the underdog challenging the AAA giants?

This is part of any voting process, and it isn't limited to popular votes. Juries do it as well. If you think many among the critics jury won't vote for this or that game for reasons extraneous to quality or relevance strictly related to the games themselves, you're extremely naive, especially after seeing some of the Cyberpunk 2077 reviews from yesterday.

If this is an issue for you, then you likely should stay away from awards in which any kind of voting process is involved.

I can't help but remember the rants people had, even non-gamers, on how GoT was allegedly racist, or cultural appropriation, simply because the team that made it were Americans, some of them white. Nevermind that they actually consulted Japanese historians, expert swordsmen, had help from Japan Studio, nah. Total colonizers.

I'm sure those people would never DREAM of voting simply to stop this game from winning, surely.

The funny part is that in Japan most people absolutely adore seeing their culture and history celebrated like this by foreigners.

Also loved that multiple Japanese developers came out congratulating them on such a job well done. Lol.

Well deserved.

By far my favorite game this year, I'm happy I held off until the PS5 to play it.

I really hope we get a sequel on the mainland.

These people don't realize that they're promoting segregation and all the -isms they claim to be against. Or maybe they do, and it's all one big ruse.

Nobody has an exclusive ownership on CULTure. Humans can share and do what they do. Food and the arts like music as examples, are some of the most beneficial tools for humans to break down barriers with one another and bring people together, not separate.

Sharing means caring.

Especially since many gamers have good reason to dislike Neil Druckmann.

But hey, game journalists love Druckmann because he shares the same soy progressive SJW ideals as they do. Makes those perfect review scores highly suspect no?

But what do I know? According to these people I'm just a lowly alt-right facist loving gamer.

I voted in this so I'm going to assume that vote tipped the scale. You're welcome. Please send GAFGold as thanks.

What are you talking about? Invalidating the list what? Calm down GOT defense force. You got the wrong idea.
Can try to discredit it all you want. Nothing came close to GoT, especially this year.
The same above applies to you. You GOT defense force guys are really wound up. I wasn't trying to discredit your precious game lol.

It is sad that I have to explain this cause people take things the wrong way. I just found it funny that those games were on this list.
Geeeeeeeeez... yall need to take a chill pill.

Sir, please stop besmirching the Superfood that is Soy.

Our farmers work too hard to produce it for it to be used as such a pejorative.

(It's also pretty cringey, tbh)

This thing is literally a stupid popularity contest, the idea that it is an outrage because people didn't scientifically honor the objective best game...

I'm Filipino, and I happily use Soy Sauce as a condiment. And tofu is delicious when cooked right. I even like the stinky Japanese natto.

I've got nothing against soy, but I'll happily use it as an insult for progressive beta males.

I haven’t played any of the game on the list (I’m still playing older game and then cyberpunk soon). But if there’s one game i might want to play on the list is Ghost of Tsushima. So I’m happy that it wins.
