Nope. That FUD thread OP states it uses the stock OEM SN530, this correction states the exact opposite. Maybe logic isn't part of your vocabulary.
you do realize their "custom" drive has:

the exact same capacity
the exact same speed
the exact same type of nand
the exact same controller
the exact same size form factor
the exact same color
the exact same name

and all they did to customize an ASIC to let it work with a Gen4x2 motherboard, instead of Gen3x2 or 3x4.

Its still just a PC M2 SSD and they only changed the 1 thing they had to.

Everybody can talk and spin for Sony all they want. Fact is Sony took a bunch off the shelf parts, shoved them in a PC case and called it a PS5. The hardware tells the story. PS pro showed they were in over their heads. How many TFLops was the PRO compared to the X? They mistakenly planed to release PS5 in 2019 (RDNA 1) but caught wind of what MS was up to (RDNA 2) and had to scramble to close the TFlop gap. Sad to say they consistently can’t, which doesn’t bod well for the future. Plus doing Back compat in hardware is a death sentence. But I digress They had already finalized their hardware architecture ( Phil confirmed this) so had to overclock the gpu/cpu. Which they found to be unstable so had to go with variable clocks. Their cobbled together and over the top cooling solution attests to this. I could go on. Oh and right a company that makes TV’s told AMD a company that does GPU/CPU thanks but no thanks we’ve got a better custom solution than RDNA2? Last thing has Sony clarified, been transparent or pushed back on any of this? Their silence is deafening. Truth will eventually come out and the speculation will end.

Have you been in stasis for the last half a year?

I don't understand removing the web browser. Of course it's useful.

There's a web browser setting in the PS5 menue. Looks like they decided to not support it recently then? Doesn't make any sense that it's there with no web browser.
It probably has to do with preventing hackers. On PS3, you can jailbreak the system directly from the web broswer. On PS4, you can run Linux among other things via the web browser. This is actually a REALLY good change, IMO. It will help a lot with the security of the console.

Why even bother wasting your life on a post like this?

Only the 60fps mode immediately stands out. Crossgen game all the way imho

No doubt PS5 being held back if the Jag can run the same game.
looks virtually identical save for ray tracing.

what a scam. i remember them saying how character models and buildings will be higher quality to take advantage of new ps5 hardware. what a load of shit.

R Rhema Well, considering they currently have the best looking games currently and the machine seems very well put together, I'd say your negativity is unfounded. From analysis it seems to run cool and quiet, is able to run native 4k @ 30fps with RT, performs admirably with BC games and not to mention having the new innovative controller. I'd say it makes it an enticing prospect for anyone looking to jump in.

That said, I'm not getting one but can appreciate what it offers. For me I'm still eagerly awaiting my XSX to try out all the games of GamePass (including EA Play) today :messenger_smiling: Can't wait!

I always knew it was going to be the case despite the devs blowing their own horn. Even an a/b test is like looking for where’s Wally.

They could have given us a free frame unlock on the original like the rest of the Sony devs and most of us would be fulfilled. Charge for miles as new ‘small game’ not withstanding. But apart from that, sheesh.

nonsense.

There is nothing off the shelf about the SSD. Cerny said it was faster than anything on the market back in April 2019 and it took manufacturers 18 more months to get SSDs that fast on the market or on the shelves.

The I/O work done in the APU is so custom that even the latest AMD and Nvidia GPUs have the GPU doing the work the PS5 i/o block is doing leave the GPU to do actual graphics computing.

The power gap stuff might be true but ultimately games will show the difference in the next couple of days. So far, the PS5 seems to be capable of doing native 4k with ray tracing just fine.

The backward compatible work being done on hardware being a death sentence is the biggest load of nonsense ive ever heard. It's how every PC GPU has done BC. It's why you dont need to download separate emulators to run 90s and 2000s games on your PC. You have no clue what you are talking about.

Real quick. The SSD is slower then lots on the market when it actually comes to market.

There are faster SSDs using 16 lanes of PcieGen3. The problem is getting that writing speed to the GDDR giving it coherence and quickly selecting what is necessary.

The SSD is special but what is truly special is the IO Controller and the Custom Flash Controller, along with the dedicated decompression hardware.

The day this is understood, we will stop talking about SSD speeds that in reality is not even 10% of the problem.

Yeah I wasn't commenting on any of that. Just saying it's silly to say it's faster than things on the market when it wasn't on the market.

It is very difficult to explain this on TV and for the fans to understand you. So Cerny simplified it by saying that it was the fastest SSD on the market.

You are actually right because the effectiveness of the SSD is actually a working set of hardware. Not just the SSD so you need the whole set to be fast so that the SSD is finally fast.

But I understand that the marketing defense of other companies choose to attack out there even though they don't really work faster than that.

Not at least until RTX IO + DirectStorage is really up and running.
