Red Dead Redemption 2 is, quite simply, the greatest achievement in gaming, and possibly the best game ever made

Agree with OP.

My 2 Cents... GOW getting 2018 game of the year over RDR2 is laughable. 10 years from now the “2018 Game of The Year” is gonna be looked at just as the 1994 Movie of the Year is now. Pulp Fiction as “Movie Of The Year” with runner up being Forest Gump, both over “The Shawshank Redemption” is even more laughable.

2 years in and RDR2 is still being talked about daily, GOW is an afterthought. Greatness is measured by time, RDR2 has that in spades. Hell, the 1st game I’m starting on when i get the Series X in a few days is RDR2. It’s timeless, just as the original is.

Game of the Year.

One plays like a dream and the other like a nightmare. Both had top-tier production values, storytelling (Sadie Adler aside) and graphics. They did the right thing.

Plus fuck Rockstar habit of downgrading their games with patches, that's the most infuriating shit ever.
The only RDR2 will always be 1.00 for me.

It's a good game, but what makes it one of my favorite games of the past decade is the storytelling and experience. The game itself leaves a lot to be desired, the shooting and control can be clunky but some of the organic experiences, or what feels organic with NPCs and randomish events that happen in the game world really make it feel like a cowboy simulator. Some of the dialog Arthur has when he realizes his mortality has as much gravity as any movie or book I've ever read. To me that's what makes RDR2 great.

Yep, the production values are simply leagues and leagues beyond any other game ever created.

Greatest game ever made in my eyes, the graphics, story, characters, soundtrack and God knows what else are simply unbeatable in gaming.

Yep, that's how everyone felt about it at first. Let's see how you feel when you "need more money."

I like the game for it's world and side activities, but the story dragged on forever. I still get the urge to go hunting or fishing occasionally though.

Hope it stays great for you.

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Felt mind numbingly hand holdy/automated from what I tried of it.

I hope it gets better later?
The game opens a lot after the prologue in the snow. After that I would say it stays the same.

I love this game man but uh.....greatest game ever made?

Nah

Nah, you see you're misspelling MegaManX 4 so badly dude. I mean Chrono Trigger would have been a little closer to the correct spelling as well. Street Fighter III Third Strike would have also been acceptable spelling, but I'm afraid your current entry grants you only partial credit.

Its such an amazing game that when I've played it, I instantly regretted buying it simply because the game has atrocious controls and the beginning of the game is super slow, and climbing a mountain for 1 hour was not fun. Did not play the first on either. I think it is highly overrated. Too slow.

Although I wouldn't go as far as that. I agree, it is a pretty damn good gaming experience.

Spent well north of 100 hours on it, much of which was spent roaming around the map and smelling the flowers.
That map is an amazing achievement in art & design. The way the game's systems and A.I. all work in unison almost felt like an ancestor simulation at points.

It wouldn't go in my top 30 games list, but each to their own I guess.

However, credit where credit is due. Nobody can model horse testicules like Rockstar can.

RDR is one of my all time favorites. By far my favorite game from Rockstar.

RDR 2 tho, what a fucking mess

I would tolerate the shitty gameplay if the story was good, but its shit.

And it bothers me A LOT, because many people say that it's "the best story in the medium"

"One last time, Arthur" over and over again. It took 30h for Arthur to say that he had enough, but It took me 5h to say "fuck Dutch" and disconnect from Arthur's actions.

The story goes everywhere while going nowhere at the same time. Even Arthur is like "Dutch, why we doing this?" and Dutch is like "Because money".
So with that, Dan Houser could write any filler that he wanted to for the game, even when the characters had no justifiable motivation whatsoever.
"Why help the indians?", "'cause Dutch said so". "Oh, ok then".
Character development happens rushly at the end of the game.
It's bloated as fuck. Guarma is something that Rockstar put in the game just because they had the money for it.

It's freaking amazing to look at, and the acting and etc. is just top notch. But that's all that I can praise the game for.

Most overrated game after BOTW and Mario Odyssey in this generation of consoles

Maybe, MAYBE, if it wasnt as clunky to control, and wasnt so overly complicated, and didnt have constant limits on what you can and cant do, forced walking, etc, etc. Yeah maybe then.
The graphics, story, missions, characters, voice acting, all awesome. The gameplay, not so much.

Nailed it.

Game of the generation. Goes so far beyond most games it’s absurd. The level of detail is still unmatched 2 years later and only game I see challenging it is cyberpunk 2077.

I understand the complaints on the controls but I actually appreciate the fact that rockstar doubles down on its vision for the game unlike other companies that will make a game more “fun” at a sacrifice for realism.

I mean this is a gaming enthusiast forum and this game gets shit on so much it kinda blows my mind that most gamers don’t realize games of this size and scope are only come around maybe once a generation now

Hate rockstar all you want but as a life long gamer I truly appreciate a company that will always push the limits of this medium and no company has ever does it better then them

the characters, the graphics, the VA, the open world, the story (so far) how the fuck did they manage to craft this for current gen consoles i'll never wrap my head around it

yea, play for a bit more. That gets old fast and you are left with a game with horrid controls (you can go from saying hi to attempted kidnapping in 2 seconds) , bad and questionable design (as to why you can't rob banks freely in the open world about a game about ROBBING BANKS is beyond me, don't get me started on having a mask on yet people out here giving the police your face, finger prints, DNA, SSN lol, that shit turned into Minority Report), missions that auto fail for the dumbest of reasons in a ROCKSTAR game no less (where the fuck is the freedom to complete the mission how I see fit? The fuck happened to that open rockstar style?).

Be like "pick up deer hold down x, confirm with R1.....are you sure? sending email verification" lol this simply doesn't need all theses weird holding buttons to do the most simplest shit, they over complicated something that never needed to be done in such a cumbersome way. So going from GTA to Red Dead, you are still shooting shit, riding and or driving in shit, the design fits, why mess with such a thing? Fighting with the weapon wheel ruined sooooo many moments that could have been amazing.

The biggest challenge in Red Dead 2 isn't any missions or bosses, its the game's own controls.

It's 3rd party so you won't get many to agree with you here... but I do. It's an amazing achievement.

The game had too many flaws to be called perfect. Everything from the gameplay, story and characters was extremely lackluster. I mean I had more fun hunting and skinning animals than anything else.

I approve this message. It's designed to feel and play different than every other game in your library. I love it.

So I have a horrible backlog. RDR is in the log and still in the shrinkwrap. Just playing it first time, would you say wait for PS5 patch? I was holding off to play Cyberpunk 2077, but the delay made the choice easy.

While I can see why some may not like this, it is meant to be heavy.

No matter how much I like how snappy and "video gamey" Ghost of Tsushima is, I am glad that RDR2 doesn't control like that. It is a nice slow burn change of pace for me.

I enjoy going back and forth to the stark contrasts. They are both fitting for their aesthetics.

I feel you but I'm the opposite. I don't like games that feel like work. I did however enjoy the first red red redemption, which is why RDR2 was such a dissapointment to me. 30 minutes I knew I wasn't gonna be able to do it and sold it to my friend for 45 bucks.

One of the greatest games I ever played, no doubt. My favorite of the xbox one generation. Disappointing on how they dropped the ball with Red Dead Online though.

Tag, you're it.
Waiting for CP 2077, playing RDR II main story for the 3rd time. Such a masterpiece in every level. After all those hours I still discover details or random encounter, I love this game so much.

The OST is also amazing, hearing the first note of some music instantly bring back memories:

So yeah, this is Art for me. Gameplay isn't for everyone though.

It's a wonderful environment to chill in, fish, ride the train, explore, hunt, etc. As a game it's more like they are reluctantly taking me along for the ride and the game gets visibly annoyed when you try to do anything different.

RDR2 is one of those things that has to click for the player at the right time. I played it on ps4 when it came out and something about it just didn't set with me.
I tried it again on PC and damn was it not an experience. It definitely has it flaws (mission structure can be a chore at times) but the world they made was amazing.

Everything is subjective. All I can say is I sold it after 10 hours because I was bored and bought ACO. I've played ACO 5 times now.

Granted I'm not disappointed, but I actually have the Official Domino's Set. It's nice as fuck, I just don't really know how to play..But my wife knew how much of a fan I was of the series so she got it for me as a gift. Have you tried playing RDR2 on your new GPU? I HATED the console version, but I straight up adore the PC version.

Funny enough I did buy it cause I heard it's much better on PC but haven't tried it yet. Definitely gonna give it a try though!

Please do. I think you will be surprised on how differently it just plain plays with mouse and keyboard. There's a bit of finnicking with the controls on m&kb, but once you are comfortable, it's such a better experience. I hope you'll share your experience in a LTTP thread or some shit when you get around to trying it if you do. It really is a big difference. Believe me, I loved everything about RDR2 on Xbox One X except PLAYING it and the PC version fixed that problem for me. Your setup is so sweet and it's gonna run the game so damn well, much better than my 1080ti and I fuckin' love my setup. So much fun.

If you like it, you'll love it, i think. There are certain things that i love about it, but i wasn't able to play it post the first 10 hours or so. I'll go back to it I'm sure.

Was treated with the visual, best detailed and dynamic open world by far. Absolutely loved Arthur Morgan and his story. But the gameplay is just unfavorable, I understand the emphasis on being realistic movement, but the it just isn't fun to play.

If your pc is even kinda decent it will run a lot better, but in my case that served to make me angrier in the areas and story scenes where they make you walk slow. The open world is way better on pc.

You def. have to just kind of let go and let the game give you the experience it's trying to. If you fight it, it will def. show it's holes. It has some annoyances for sure, but there's never been a better piece of media that gives you that cowboy experience like RDR2 does.

That's a funny way to spell Bloodborne, OP :p

JK. It's a good piece of ART, kind of like a cowboy film from the golden age of spaghetti westerns, but it's not even close to being the "great achievement in gaming". It's simply not a good GAME.

A good game should hold your attention with excellent controls and mechanics, and the length of the game should be paced in a way that makes the player stay on the edge of their seat and not want to put the game down.

RDR2 does none of that. It's clunky, slow and sometimes really boring. But man does it look PRETTY. It's the simple things in RDR2 that make it shine, like riding your horse into the mountains or whatever. It can be very immersive, but I've never spent more than an hour playing it at a time. It took me well over a year of on and off interest to actually finish the slog of a story lol. It also lacks replay value which is something the "best game ever made" should have.
