Watch Dogs Legion runs at dynamic 1080p on Series S.

Ubisoft recently announced some details on the next-gen enhancements coming to the likes of Watch Dogs Legion, Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Immortals Fenyx Rising, Riders Republic, Far Cry 6, Rainbow Six Siege, and For Honor. However, we were able to receive extra tidbits of information from Galvin Whitlock, Lead Programmer at Ubisoft, such as the target resolution for the game on Microsoft's smaller, cheaper, and less powerful next-gen console.

The Highest target resolution on Xbox Series S for Watch Dogs: Legion will be 1080p (dynamic).
We also inquired as to the different implementations of ray-traced reflections across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X. According to Whitlock, PC has the edge but only slightly.

I'll wait for the DF breakdown etc. Interested in Xbox Series S, but the info and gameplay footages are thin.

I

I wouldn't call them clowns, I know people from work who don't own 4k tvs and generally don't care. It'll have an audience despite these differences.

It's a bad deal pound for pound.

The same games run better on the One X.

Microsoft are mugging people off with this console, no doubt they will be making a much bigger profit margin on it in comparison to the X. It's the reincarnation of the original Xbox One.

I dunno. I know so many people that still have 1080p TV's. I think there is an audience, but I wouldn't expect MSFT to market the console with anything less than X footage which I would find pretty dishonest. If people understand what they are paying a lot less for, I could see it doing very well.

This is what we expected. If you want 4K with the bells and whistles get a Series X. If you want to play the best version of next gen games for $299, the Series S is the console for you. Once again, the Sony avatars are spreading FUD. And it's not even good FUD. Everyone expected Series S to be a 1080p console even before it was officially announced.

Series S will have the next gen patch though, and runs with RT.

I'd have been happier if they dropped RT and made it 1080p-1440p, but I'd also prefer every game drop RT for better frame rate and resolution. Ubisoft gonna Ubisoft.

The console has been marketed as being the "same" as its big brother but just at a lower resolution.

The bed has been made and its now time to lie in it. That means RT will be passed down, even if it means resolutions of sub 1080p.

I said it at the time it was revealed, it's not powerful enough for the purpose it's supposed to be serving (in accordance with the marketing materials). It needed to have the same memory bandwidth as the X and ideally ~6 TF of power. Anything else and you're asking developers to do work far beyond just tweaking a few settings and turning the resolution down.

MS announced this console as a 1080p to 1440p machine. If Its doing RT (which I believe it is) theres NO surprise there, since Its running on dynamic 4k on a MUCH stronger console.

Everyone knows Series S is a tuned One X, and never meant to be a 4k machine for next gen games.

But people will pretend to be shocked in every single thread about it.

Forum is becoming unbearable with this concern trolling shit.

Regardless, it's a 1080p console and that's what we're getting here until proven otherwise.

I agree it could be a bit more powerful, but for the purpose it serves, and market it caters to, it's fine. One S was completely underpowered too, as was the One, but neither have held back the One X at all.

It's a cheapass, smallass Game Pass box for casuals and/or kids.

I mean I would also love to see an actual review of the XsS version. If it has all the bells and whistles with RT

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
Surprising nobody. I expect the Series S to be in that 1080p/1440p range throughout it's life. Were people expecting otherwise?

The 1440p/120 fps dream is over before it started.

Pretends to be shocked.

Its a weaker machine. That tops out at 1440p. Why people are still flabbergasted by this is perplexing.

When the marketing wanted people to believe that "XSS is totally like the XSX but at 1440p instead of native 4K" and then it turns out that even in cross gen games the effective performance is much less (just like the XSX can't do native 4K in every game), it's normal for people to complain.

I think it's expected given the GPU and memory situation. Just stop marketing it with "Designed to play next generation games at 1440P at 60fps".

Series X doesn't run Watch Dogs at 4K so why would anyone expect series S to run it at 1440p?

The S is marketed as the budget option. Compromises are expected. And that's what it's doing.
