I think tomorrow I'll have a lot of fun.

Completely forgot about this one. Great reviews, surprisingly. I'll check out reviews on YT from my fav racing YouTubers to see if it's worth my time.

A shame most people will sleep on this game, just like Motorstorm and Driveclub.

Looks FUN.
Pretty much.

Arcadey racing and sports games have been on the decline for probably 15 years. It's all about sim, real pro leagues and tons of modes and stats.

i loved need for speed on ps1/ps2 and ridge racer. i liked project gotham racing on OG xbox ok. but honestly i've just fallen away from racing games in general since those days. don't really want to spend money on something i do think looks fun, but isnt in my priority list of games. going to be sinking too much time in demons souls/ACValhalla/cyberpunk/wow

Well I still support the genre heavily but I understand what you mean and I think in your case it's not because you dislike the genre now, it's just that the old games were much better.
The old NFS curbstomps the new ones, especially the ones by Ghost Games.
Midnight Club, Burnout and Ridge Racer were always amazing and are now missing in action.
And what we get instead is mediocre shit like The Crew.
So yeah.

Wow so it seems it has a 60fps mode on literally all consoles? Damn that's crazy and unexpected.
Will definitely roll with 60 on Pro.

My review in Spanish (6.5): https://www.pcmrace.com/2020/11/02/dirt-5-review/ (also has some 4k pics)

"In short, Dirt 5 is a truly forgettable game that can matter to a very specific sector of the genre: those players who miss the times when arcades were much simpler and spent hours squeezing experiences like Daytona USA, the Cruis' n '…, Virtua Racing or the early Need for Speed. Codemasters' proposal to separate the franchise into two conceptual lines was very interesting if two complete and attractive gameplay structures were built, and while Dirt Rally seems to get better with each installment, the original Dirt just seems to have been summarized to the least possible expression, even at lower levels than the first games in the saga."

Plus six videos and the benchmark at 4K @ Ultra High Settings in my channel:

I'm torn between this and WRC. Dirt Rally was too Sim-like to the point of no enjoyment as the steering was hard to master and DIRT 5 seems too "Arcady". Hoping WRC is a bit more Dirt Rally with forgiving controls. A cross between the 2 as it were.

Or I should just Git Gud.

It would be nice to see a comparision between PS5 and Series X of this game regarding performance (resolution+FPS+tearing) and loading times

Git gud and return to dirt rally or try and learn WRC8/9.

If you're only on a controller though... I'm not sure what to suggest.

Am I seeing correctly that this hame is struggling to maintain 60fps at max settings on a 3080?

Wtf.

I have a wheel and it helps overall steering, but it seems once I lose the back end, thats it. Game over.

Perhaps Git Gud is the only real way and I should just stop being a Fanny.

Yeh you will get better with time at learning how to control slides.

Throttle input is also important when you feel the back start to go

It just takes practice.

You can do it lol.

The DIRT series has been around for a while, what is this game bringing to the table that DIRT1-4 didn't?

PC Gamer says not much

Not to mention DIRT RALLY 1 and 2 are both very popular games.

I originally thought "This doesn't look next-gen" - then saw some more videos and thought it looks so much fun, like was it Microsoft Motorstorm? Or something like that, but with dirtbikes.

Not sure if I should hold out for the PS5 version or dip into the PC version (Ryzen 3700X, 1080Ti, 16GB 3200Mhz ram).

What MS has to do with that game? If anything that's Codemaster's Motorstorm made by Motorstorm developers (or what is left from Evolution Studio).

Apologies, it wasn't Motorstorm (Stuck in my head from reading above) - it was Microsoft Motorcross Madness.

The dualsense features may make PS5 the go to platform for this one. Can imagine getting a better sense of terrain, grip etc.

Although the committed racer would play with a wheel.

XoX videos are bs there is a 60 FPS mode. You can select 30 or 60 modes

first the good:

- very fast sense of speed.
- has more in common with motor storm than dirt 4.
- 60 FPS mode is pretty solid.
- supports trigger rumble

The not so good:

- screen tearing issues ( we all don’t have VRR TVs! )
- in hdr everything looks washed out instead crisp and colorful.

I'm glad I picked this as one of my XSX launch titles. Visually not amazing (although the final build does show some improvement over previews). But as I suspected, it's just a fun arcade racer which no console launch is ever complete without.

Steering wheel support coming at the end of November so I'll be waiting until that comes out before purchasing. Very disappointing.

MotorStorm comparisons are intriguing...

Did you try both 30 and 60 FPS modes? What are you going to stick with?

60 for sure. It doesnt really go down that much in settings just less people on the sidelines and shadow quality takes a hit.
30 doesnt work well for how fast it is.

Playing on One X and it seems cool so far. The tracks are interesting and that's an important thing for me with racing games. Still early on so maybe things will change but I bumped the difficulty up to hard and it feels like a good challenge but maybe needs another higher difficulty. For some reason the cutscenes between races look like stop motion video. Gonna need some patches down the line. No real noticeable performance problems while actually racing for me. Will be saving most of the game for XSX

Edit: Some noticeable performance issues when lots of cars on the screen.

Edit: Day 1 standard edition patch seems to have much better performance on my One X version.

No wheel support at launch. Or atleast extremely limited, most popular wheels (g29, t300rs) don't work.

what a crock of shit

“Has a lot in common with Dirt 2”...

So it’s most similar to the best game in the franchise, colour me intrigued! The Eurogamer review doesn’t seem to be particularly positive about how engaging the handling is. But this is from Martin Robinson who loved the more sim heavy handling of the Dirt Rally games (I didn’t) so I’ll take that with a pinch of salt.

The handling looks great in the videos.
