It seems that Control on Switch wouldn’t have happened were it not for cloud delivery – would that be accurate? If so, is the bottleneck purely technical, or also a question of finance or personnel?

Thomas Puha:
I think it’s safe to say there would be no Control on Switch without the Cloud.

We did dedicate some time a while ago to doing some due diligence on what it would take to produce a Switch port with an external partner, but deemed it not possible for a variety of reasons. The bottlenecks are all of those things you mention: technical, finance and personnel. It isn’t a question of want. Of course, Remedy and 505 Games want Control on many platforms, the Switch included. If only it would be that easy. Trust me, one of the hardest things in making games is all the compromises you have to make.

Getting games to very different hardware platforms is really time-consuming and tough. Our Northlight engine is really not built to work on the Switch, which I’d say goes for most engines, so you would have to spend a significant amount of engineering time to make that happen. Then you have to think about if all that work is worth it for just one game, when you should be getting the engine ready for next-gen and the future. We would rather ensure that our tools and teams are ready for the future games as well as they can be, rather than going back and doing the kind of work that would be a very one-off thing.

What time is it?
I'll check it out tomorrow. God, my villagers deserved better.

Defeated Ganon in BotW last night. Probably like the 4th time I decided to defeat. I enjoy the battle a lot plus the credits as well

But I noticed something in
Zelda’s study at Hyrule Castle. On like the 4th or 5th page in her diary noting all her findings, she speaks about how there are (paraphrasing to the max. here) “5 columns of Guardiand underground Hyrule Castle and she could not get to them no matter how she looked. They must be deep underground the Castle” so I think the idea from the trailer for BOTW2 comes right from that journal entry. Link and Zelda were looking for the five columns of Guardians

I wonder why she wants to find them though, if that is the reason they’re down there searching? My guess is to study the technology and to know with zero doubt in her mind that there are not greater threats than what was above or on land in Hyrule

Those are the columns surrounding the castle. They were designed to come up when Ganon returned and Guardians started pouring out of them. Obviously that didn't end well.

I completely forgot about those and never even thought to wonder what they might be for lol. Thanks

BOTW could have been the GOAT game with even just 4 dungeons added, maybe a couple dozen more NPCs with slightly more intricate sidequests with depth, and more information, screen time and story involving the Champions (and those aiding Zelda i.e. Impa, the two scientists, etc.)

Just a bit more and I think this game could have possibly been up there with OoT and MM overall

So Mario Tennis is really fucking weird! It arrived this morning and I've been mostly doing DIY stuff so I've not got far into it but it's properly fucking weird. An ancient tennis racket with mind-control powers abducting Luigi after manipulating Wario and Waluigi.. you know what, I fucking love that the Japanese will just say fuck it and go full weird. In the west we're just so fucking self-conscious - "oh they might think we're odd" or "but it's a fucking tennis game", but Japan just says fuck it, let's do this.

Playing galaxy and no more heroes in hd portable is fuggen magical. 2008 nostalgia overload

I want all the wii games now. I was playing skyward sword OG the other day, going back to 480p is painful but the game is amazing

Still fuming over no galaxy 2 also

It's all going to be okay when Mario Galaxy 2 is released as DLC. I swear it's gonna happen, guys. Guys, plz...

Also going to reiterate that I would do unspeakable things to get Klonoa Wii on the Switch.

The ‘Ganon Defense System’ is such a neat idea.

People say BotW didn’t have a great story, but I loved peeling back all the layers of mythology, and finding out what happened 100 years ago, often through gameplay mechanics, the visuals of the world itself, and things as common as NPC dialogue.

I do miss the immediacy of a Wind Waker, where you’re practically playing a classic Disney production, with tons of story and cutscenes, but BotW did something new, and I really loved it in its own way.

Each of the 3D console Zelda titles sets out to do something different from the previous entry and each one has something new to offer. Some might be better than others but all are fun end to end. I think BOTW had a great story. Things are a little bit more segmented in BOTW than say TP but I don't find it to be severely lacking. I think the lack of dungeons and lack of urgency with the constant carrot of next sage/giant/twilight shard made the game seem a little more bare and lacking urgency. I also believe that Zelda games do a lot of their story telling through the world and I think BOTW does that well. I also believe that the voice acting, lengthier cutscenes, and scale of the story gave people a taste of something that they had never experienced in a Zelda game-a hint of a "grand" JRPG story. I think the taste of that story just left people hungry for more hence the idea that there wasn't enough story.

With the Switch I started to buy physical but quickly got annoyed switching cards especially because the EShop only games were so convenient. So I bought all games I liked on a discount and sold the cards.

I only buy the games I likely don’t want to keep physical (e.g. the last Paper Mario). Hell I have over 200 games (over 100 don’t have a physical release) it would be a nightmare to carry all cards.

My new November console. Now, if only LRG would ship the 10 or so Switch games that I bought in the first half of this year and am still waiting for.

500 bucks

I have one on the way as well. On the fence about keeping it though. Was really hoping for a cheaper plastic console like the Super NT.

I have a fear of being 100% physical and losing a cartridge case like that.

That looks like a carrying case designed to hold tools, except you're the tool.

I’d be open to a cheaper plastic version, but I’m unsure when it will come. They have the Pocket and Duo up next, so guessing it would be at least 2022 before we see one. You could probably sell the noir used then for a good profit if that did happen.

Decided to start Starlink: Battle for Atlas this weekend. Decent game so far, combat has been kicking my ass, exploration is ok and the Starfox inclusion is neat. The dialogue and actions from the main cast is pretty cringe though, some attempt at humor and you have this stoner loser that doesn't seem to know what's going on half the time. The story set up was also kind of weak tbh, some evil dude wants new tech, so kidnap some professor and torture him for the info.

The game definitely looks like it'll have decent gameplay but poor characters and writing. Thank God the Starfox crew are here to pick up the slack.

I really enjoyed it for what it was. Just gliding the ship around has really good gamefeel. It gets pretty repetitive though. Bring an audiobook or something to do while you're zooming around the system.

Didn't Starlink bomb? Haven't heard about it since it launched.

Didn't sell to their expectations, so yeah:
Ubisoft said:
Despite the immense and continuous support from our players, the sales for Starlink: Battle for Atlas fell below expectations. Consequently, we recently made the decision to not release any additional physical toys for the Spring update and in the future.

They still updated the game but it was very lowkey.

Was kind of hoping Switch would have a new Star Fox game of its own

Last we heard they were deciding "what to do with starfox" what a wasted IP potential

Miyamoto is brilliant, but his inability to realize that people just wanted more Starfox, torpedoed the best new game franchise just as it was beginning.

What could have been.

Zero is unpolished in some levels and crazy demanding, but it was fun for actually being a damn Star Fox game, and introducing it’s cooler ideas (I loved being able to turn into the walker anytime) within that framework.

I would love to see an (obviously bit more traditional) sequel that builds on the best aspects of that game.

Finally played the Age of Calamity Demo, and I really enjoyed it. Never though I would enjoy a musou game, but the button mashing and the chaos is pretty damn fun.

I might buy it around December (after I finish Xenoblade Chronicles and Bayonetta 2).

My thoughts as well. I finished Hyrule Warriors but it was a slog. The Zelda trappings were just enough to help push through as I've never made it more than a few hours into any other Musou game. I've already logged a little over four hours into Age of Calamity. The BOTW integration is wonderful and adds enough variety to the combat to stop it from being brain dead. I'd have played more if I didn't' hit the level cap.

I finally went back and watched the Mini Direct. Why is SE English voice acting for some of these games sooo bad? I’m not a fan of the chibi look, so I’ll probably pass, but there is no way I could play this dubbed. I felt the same about Trials of Mana.

Did anyone here buy Pikmin 3? I feel like the demand for more Pikmin is always exaggerated. I bought it for the Wii U when it came out, but that was just because I was desperate for Wii U games. It was fun, but it's not something I think about revisiting.
