Hmm, maybe you guys use more apps than I do. But genuinely speaking I've been pretty happy with both with only that minor problem with my LG that sometimes stops resuming the video after an ad, and sometimes can't connect to wifi even if the signal is full because of some bug.
That you see advertising at Youtube at all is a reason not to use it. Youtube without adblock is pretty much unusable for me :messenger_neutral:

The thing is, that TVs are usually used for 10-15 years, but after just very few years the CPU gets too slow, the RAM too small and apps/TV do not get updated anymore ("how can you expect that we update a 4 year old TV? Buy something new!").
The PS5 is a system which should be "fast enough" for the next gen (8 years), should get updates and should get all mayor media apps, so it is a kind of future proof solution.

I usually use a fireTV dongle from amazon. It is is fast, can do everything and is "cheap enough" so that it can be replaced when it gets too old. But I still have to find a solution for the "Youtube ad problem" ;)

Nah, I don't block the ads, it's their revenue. It's like stealing from them. At least that's how I see it :)

But maybe if you check newer tv's they're pretty fast, at least from 2015+ they seem pretty good? Not sure really.

I'm guessing a lot of Xbox fans are American. I noticed Microsoft being its usual loud, crass and obnoxious self which works in the US because thats good marketing over there.

I wouldn't generalize it QUITE that much. There's plenty of subtle and not 'in your face' type advertising in America. It's a stereotype only. What MS marketing means is that the company that handles their branding and ads believes that Microsoft's target demographic responds best to that style of advertising. And they probably don't tailor the ad campaign for other countries and regions so much. That's all.

The cool thing about the DualSense is it has new dedicated connectors along the bottom for that PS5 charging dock. It doesn't need to use the USB port, so the controller doesn't need to be docked upside down or whatever.

Don't all DualShock 4 charging docks have to use the mini USB port on the top of the controller?
My official PS4 dock works just like the PS5 one, connecting using the proprietary connections are the bottom of the controller. Looks smart too.

I've pre-ordered the PS5 version, couldn't live without it.

Its the bargaining stage of denial

Leave Riky Riky alone, he is fighting his corner more respectfully, and XSX is a good design, the evil twins will cancel each other out in the end. We can poke fun but its cool.

I am more looking forward to DF squirming after 28th, as their gaming metric has been TF and bandwidth and promoting 3080, and AMD new cards are crazy the total opposite so should be fun to watch the ahems....fun.

Does anyone here have the Sony 900H TV? I ordered mine from amazon and its finally arriving tomorrow. I am excited but this thing took 12 days to get here and i spent them youtubing the tv and now im scared it wont be a massive jump from my KS8000.

Thankfully i bought a 75 inch one which alone should be a big upgrade from my 55 inch ks8000, but I hope the colors are better too. VRR better work at launch. I bought this tv just because I didnt want to miss out on hdmi 2.1 features.
Man whenever you set up your tv i want a hands on because i also have ks7000 here in europe and i want to upgrade to sony so i just want to know the color accuracy and brightness when you can...

when a service uses advertising as inflationary as youtube I consider an adblocker as self defense.
About a year ago the adblocker on my browser did not work for a few hours, and I still have bad memories because of the youtube use I did during that time.

Your 2015 tv is already borderline with support, and once the support ends the problems with apps will grow.
I worked on a TV app here in Germany and I doubt we supported TVs that old.

As I said I personally use a cheap dongle which can be easy and cheap replaced if its time is over without having to exchange the rest of the system.

One of my best mates is from Kowloon. You ain’t fucking wrong.

The Chinese aren't stupid. British wanted Hong Kong forever, Chinese envoy knew he would literally get lynched by nationalists if he did that and came up with 1997.

The British did request to renew the lease but yeah:messenger_grinning_squinting:

I've been pulling my hair out on whether or not to jump to a new TV. At this rate I won't get a PS5 till next year, so should I just wait for CES 2021 to see what's coming out by late Spring? I'm not impressed after looking at what's on the market for LCD. The Sony's have great image processing and dimming algorithm, but too few dimming zones so I notice the blooming and transitions. TCL has more dimming zones and is cheaper, but their processing isn't as good and their dimming algorithm isn't up to par. OLED is fantastic, but is on the higher side of what I want to pay and I worry about burn-in. Not sure what to do. I may just say fuck it and buy the 55' LG OLED on Black Friday.

Edit: Also, Samsung is off the list for being way too overpriced to being with.

Join the OLED 55 inch club, had one for a few years no burn in, blacks do die for......You know when you get that dark scene in a game or movie and can actullay enjoy the detail in shadows......that you never knew existed.

They are "AVOIDING" it. If XSX has 802GB out of 1024GB, it could be something around 310-290GB only.
1024gb = 953GiB which is what is actually shown internally. Also you have to hold back a fair amount of the space to cycle into use as other sectors stop working to lengthen the lifespan of the SSD. The external card has roughly 906GiB usable which means roughly 50 is held back to cycle into use to repalce bad sectors. This is standard practice for any SSD of decent quality.

The hand back of Hong Kong was one of Britain’s single biggest diplomatic failures in the entire history of the country. Marry that with the fucking pathetic response we’ve mounted to the way the CCP have cracked down on HK, and it’s one of the U.Ks most shameful episodes.

Why are we discussing this again? The GPU has 40CUs, not 38. It's 20 pairs, whereby 2 pairs are disabled for yields. The tempest engine is a separate thing, and what you're saying has been debated to death and discussed to oblivion. It's nonsense.
Thanks for the reply, but if you are going to make such a sweeping remark it would be useful if you realised I didn't preclude the Tempest engine being separate - just in a different layer, was my speculation - and if you are going to tell people that a discussion is done, feel free to give a round up and sources when doing so.

AFAIK we don't know how the Tempest engine is placed in the GPU - only that it is heavily inferred that it is inside the GPU from Cerny's words. We know that heat distribution has to be balanced - based on what Cerny said in the Road to PS5 - so the chip can hit those high clocks , so unbalancing the design with piece of side logic Tempest Engine - a reworked CU with all its caches stripped out (Cerny words again) to make a less parallel CU - isn't exactly consistent with what we know about the clocks. Placing the logic within the 40 CU area would be more plausible IMHO, but again, it being placed in a stacked layer - with the engine in the middle layer and the logic using area in the centre of the layer, with an infinity cache in the top layer - isn't beyond the realms of possibility IMO based on what I have watched and read - but feel free to make the argument against it; especially if throwing around words like "nonsense".

Even just looking at what I quoted from Cerny in my previous post, it seems that he has referred to 3 of 4 wavefronts in the Tempest engine.

"One wavefront is for the 3D audio and other system functionality, and one is for the game. Bandwidth-wise, the Tempest engine can use over 20GB/s, but we have to be a little careful because we don't want the audio to take a notch out of the graphics processing"

AFAIK, no one has discussed the significance of those other Wavefronts.
Not knowing anything, I would still say there is room to speculate that 1 is for the Audio(known), 1 is for the DMA handling of the Engine(speculation), the Game one is for Physics(speculation) and the system one, is the cache scrubbers (speculation).
edit: or was that 2 wavefronts - one for 3D audio with other system functionality, and then one for game stuff? Could still be cache scrubbers in there as the system stuff, if DMA has it own block :pie_thinking: /edit

If the last of those speculations is true, one of the wavefronts is the cache scrubbers then the locality of the Tempest Engine to the Cache memory and the GPU CUs is going to be almost certainly closer than an external block IMHO, and a 3 layer stacked GPU would likely be a Sony only (until RDNA3) feature IMHO if that's what they've achieved, because their stacking solutions since the world's first stacked sensor - Sony's super slow motion camera sensor (in the Xperia XZ Premium) - has shown they are pioneers in this area.

I mean, it is harmless speculation, in a speculation thread, is that not the point of the thread - while we wait to see RDNA2 and anything else Xbox or Playstation want to reveal before launch?

They would have announced thst by now in my opinion. It could definitely come within two years though.
They just said its "coming soon" this week. Thats launch window, not 1 year from now.

There was a leak this year in May, before the game was announced, that leaked the name, the logo, and said it was coming in 2020. Its from a legit source who makes racing accessories. Clearly they were told it was coming this year.

"Next Level Racing is an official PlayStation licensee, making very big and very expensive cockpits so players get a better simulation when playing driving games. On their Instagram page they asked “What racing game are you most looking forward to in 2020?” and posted four logos representing new games. Dirt 5 is shown and we know that’s real, as is F1 2020 and AMS 2, the short name for Reiza Studios’ Automobilista 2.

Sitting between those games is the Gran Turismo logo along with the number seven in the corner."

I think it was aiming for launch day, and fell behind due to covid. Lots of GT games come out in December. They've had 3 years from GT Sport, plenty of time. We've already seen gameplay.

Also, Xbox announced a console in the middle of the night on Twitter just 2 months before it releases. Anything is possible now.

Sony will space out first party, otherwise they are competing with themselves. There will be a second wave of games planned for Easter time I bet to keep momentum going.

I know, right? Watching content on an OLED at Best Buy is so damn pretty. You say you've had yours for a few years. Is it HDR capable? How bright do you have the TV set at? Hours of gaming? I'd imagine your viewing habits are mixed.

Annoying questions for sure, but I got to know before I make the jump.

Use it every day and for a couple of years, often leave it on and forget and it goes to screensaver, standard game settings I dont bother with small tweaks lol, HDR on most games, you get spoiled.

I notice it more when there is bad HDR or none.

I have a 2016 OLED E6, its more prone to burn in, than new ones.. I game all the time, unfortunately I do have burn it, but its from a TV logo, not game, and don't really notice it, unless my screen background is all red.
So I think you will be fine with a new model.

Upgrading my tv would be nice, but Idon't know what to upgrade to???
Currently I have a 77in LG CX oled... looking for something to take my immersion to the next level. Recommendations?

Is this a joke post, you are at the top of the TV tree. Your next step would be a 150inch+ 4K projector.
Lol, yeah. Im kidding. Absolutely love my oled. I highly recommend one if ur getting a next gen console and/or love watching 4k shows and movies. The Haunting of Bly Manor looks ridiculous on this set.

And hell to the no about 4k projectors. The beauty of oleds are the rich colors and pitch black pixels. No projector can come close in these regards.

It's obvious when 10.28 Tflops is the peak, it can only go down from there, it isn't adding anything to that figure.
True. I sold all my Sony stock and renamed my Yatch after that announcement. I figured Jim Ryan was a name that would age well, but I think Phil Spencer is keeper. Timeless like a cheap whisky.

Kidding of course. The games tell the tale and both consoles will do well this gen. We don’t have a repeat of 2013 on either side.
