Ryan McCaffrey on Unlocked: There is nothing here (XSX launch lineup) that says I need to spend $500 dollars on XSX. Launch games

Do you find the Xbox Series S|X launch lineup disappointing?

I don't expect a price drop
I buy a console for what?
Exactly TO PLAY NEW GAMES
so I will wait for games THAT ARE ONLY FOR THE CONSOLE AND NOT CROSS GEN
I want new experiences so I will patiently waiting till the games release and till that day I'm playing with my pro and I'm not in hassle to get one because they world doesn't end of I don't get a ps5
Good for you!
Now you only need to learn not to shit on what other people like and to be less aggressive (seriously, your post history is really angry most of the time).

Look at the posts refering to me their joking and don't take my opinion serious this website is full of Bots the console war is in full happening

Destruction AllStars isn't a 1st party exclusive.

Both lineups are overall shit, Sony's is slightly less worse but that doesn't make it "one of the greatest" (lol) as someone else said either. People ITT unironically saying that they're buying a next gen console for a gearbox game is the height of blind fanboyism. Like wtf, no one would give two shits about GodFall if it weren't a next-gen launch title. The same for Destruction AllStars.

The guy OP quotes is also full of shit. I bet my left nut that he's bought a One X and Pro at launch, $400 and $500 consoles with literally no games... and he will buy a Series X for the same reason he's bought them. For the same reason I've pre-ordered a PS5: to play current games at higher fidelity or better frame rates.

As if there has ever been a legitimate reason to buy a new console at launch, the best time to buy one has always been 1-2 years after launch.

I actually started to wonder, does McCaffrey even play video games to begin with?

Well then, considering Spencer said they'll keep supporting XB1 for the next year or two, and Ryan said they'll support PS4 for even 3-4 years, you'll have to wait quite a bit with your next-gen purchase....

Yeah it is

I remember getting the PS4 at launch and all I played were multiplatform games and they all great on it. Similarly Series X will have a great third party support. Don't see why people wouldn't want to spend the money to get XSX, people are quite tired of playing on current gen and want to move on to next gen!

So, there is NO evidence that XSX is the better console for third party. No gameplay footage at all to suggest it plays games better than Ps5.

As both consoles are nearly at launch day, you don’t think that’s a problem, when your main argument for buying an XSX is for third party, because it doesn’t have any first party?

A lot of people here saying they just want the XSX for Cyberpunk... but where is there anything to tell me that it’ll look or play better on XSX than Ps5?

This is all part of McCaffrey’s point... there’s nothing to suggest that the XSX is better or worth purchasing at this time.
No this isn't a problem at all, because you can't know this before launch. Both of them have their own marketing deals, and no one is showing the same game running on both systems, due to these marketing rights. So no, there isn't a problem at all. It's just that the specs of the XSX are better than the specs of the PS5, which is why 3rd party games will run better on it.

But I'll just end up playing more Overwatch and Rocket League.

I have both an Series X and Series S on preorder, but I must say that it is absolutely shocking that they couldn't motivate themselves to scrape together practically any games for the launch, or even launch window.

We have come a far way from the excitement of having PGR3, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero, Condemned and the rest all lined up for a new next generation experience in 2005:

So why am I getting the consoles at launch?

Well, for home, I believe the X will be the best way to play Cyberpunk 2077, Cold War and Dark Souls 3 this winter. And for travel, since I will be 4 months on the road, the S will allow me to continue playing those games abroad.

True. Surprised to hear him say it.

Xbox post mattrick era have been oddly more hardware focused than software.
It's software has been a case of "the next big xbox hit is coming" but it hasn't come yet.

I for sure thought they would be fully prepared for next gen.

You are moving goalposts.

The point was that Destruction AllStars is not a 1st Party exclusive, as the picture is saying. It's a 3rd Party exclusive, for now.
and forever (at least regarding consoles).
The game box has the PS studios logo and the IP belongs to Sony.

It is a weird launch for both consoles, but we are in a weird year, so it is fitting.

Playstation has A great 2020of excluives and planned for 2021.

Ghost of Tshushima
TLOU2
Demon Souls
Spiderman MM
Sackboy

Ratchet and Clank
Horizon 2
Gran Turismo 7
Final Fantasy 16
God of War R (supposedly)

and more

You cant compare them
Sony missed the ball on BC, thats it

The hardware is great, but it's definitely a bit weird.

I thought they'd launch with some serious bangers that blew everyone's mind, and instead, there is literally nothing. It's really strange. They put all their hopes on 343, and came up empty.

this is the thing, when you are planning a Halo as launch title you probably dont want to put more games alongside it, Halo delay literally killed their launch

If its published by the platform holder it is a first party game by definition
Is this the definition nowadays?

The definition has always been that 1st party means in-house developer. It has nothing to do with IP ownership or who publishes the game.

If anything this would be a 2nd party (which is new to me) according to the "definition".

/edit this definition is apparently wrong.

The list MS gives as "launch games" contains old (like 2014) games... Their list of 1st party "launch" exclusives contains old games as well.

MS is redefining both exclusive and launch to a point where they mean nothing, anyone in the industry who sees this and does not laugh them out of the room doesn't get it.

King oddball with raytracing enabled! only on Series X (screenshot from the PS Vita version).

No the definition has always been a platform holder game (first party) or not (3rd party). Sometimes they work with in-house developers, sometimes they work with independent developers. Games are funded and published by the publisher, IP rights are owned by the publisher.

Second party is nonsense:

Regardless, All Stars is definitely NOT a third party game

Sure, I get that. Purely from a theoretical PoV there's no reason why the PS5 would be the better system. Microsoft just completely out-engineered them this time.

Both consoles? Sony is having one of the best gaming launches of all time.

If by one of the best you mean.
Best >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PS5.
Yeah sure.

Because a bunch of crossgen games and a remake isnt exactly a lineup id be praising.

  • Assassin's Creed: Valhalla
  • Astro's Playroom
  • Demon's Souls Remake
  • Destruction All Stars
  • Dirt 5
  • DmC 5: Special Edition
  • Godfall
  • Madden NFL 21
  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure
  • Watch Dogs: Legion

Now go look up the PS2 lineup.

Note. That the only real system seller in that line up is Demon Souls, for the people that arent into Souls games.....well.

FranXico FranXico add a poll, lets find out if this launch lineup really is worth $500
Added the poll. I'm not voting, as launch lineup was not a personal point of contention: my interest was on the Series S as a BC machine, and the issue there is that available storage is likely going to end up being about half that of the PS5 (which already is terrible at around 660GB).

Early adopters always get the shaft up their backsides. This time is no different, for both Sony and Microsoft fanbois.

I always look at a console after a year of life, when the next solid iteration of the hardware is on the horizon and/or a price-drop. Mostly likely a price-drop first.

Also, Godfall ain't a PS5 exclusive, shitheads.

15% better theoretical TFLOP (while having a lower GPU clock), same RAM/CPU and an SSD half as fast is damn slim pickings.
It's basically "theoretically a little better on paper at some tasks maybe", which is bearing out right now: every single game announced performs the same on PS5 and Series X.
Some games have features earlier just because Sony's SDK is better, like DMCVse which is missing RT at launch on SeX.
Hell, no XBox game will feature RT at launch. The earliest will be just Medium in december, and Legion's update.

It's actually why having such a poor launch is a problem, because there's no performance argument to push XBox.
