CDPR institutes mandatory six-day work weeks for Cyberpunk 2077

Polish video game developer CD Projekt Red told employees on Monday that six-day work weeks will be mandatory leading up to the November release of the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, reneging on an earlier promise to not force overtime on the project.

Looks like this game is coming in hot.

As a gamer, the better the product and the fewer chances it does not fucking get delayed again the better but as a man working in a corporation myself, I'd be fucking pissed as hell, unless the bonus and compensation would be insane aftewards which I'm sure it will. I'd rather not go ahead and throw CDPR under the bus just because that pig face Schreier wrote so.

It's pretty obvious by now that CDPR bit off more than they could chew. Numerous delays and now this. However, if the game comes out as a modern day masterpiece I guarantee that everyone will say it was worth it. Being in a creative position is hard as fuck, from literature to movies to games. Everything can happen and you gotta put in the hours.

Agreed. I’m a little worried about the game now, after the delays and now this crunch after they previously said they would not do crunch. Gives me some concerns this close to release date.

I know that crunch is normal heading towards release, but with the stance they previously took towards the practice, I don’t know. Hopefully it still turns out great.

The VG industry is pretty much the same as the Visual Effects industry: It's crunch all around baby, year in year out!

I have a friend who worked as a designer in Ferrari and they did 16 hours 6 days a week the months before a new car presentation.

My vet works 8-13 - 14-03am (yes, 3 am) 6 days a week. Sometimes even sunday.

Poor devs. :messenger_sad_relieved:

Funny as I was about to write that we're looking at another delay here folks.

They're gonna cancel "crunch" after all the criticism and announce the game has been delayed until Spring/Summer 2021 because of the challenges of Covid and not wanting to "crunch" their employees.

No doubt in my mind whatsoever.

"this"?
This happens of every single mid range to AAA game on the industry.

People been parading as CDPR as a good employer and believing they can never deliver a bad game.
It all shapes up to be a mediocre game. Plenty of pushbacks on the release date, gameplay mechanics being removed, now extreme crunch.

Feature creep maybe?
I imagine that's an absolute bastard in these open world style games.
No idea if that's the case here but game designers can be a law unto themselves unless you reign them in quickly.
