Regarding games sizes, what we've seen for cross gen titles in the PS5 is that the PS5 version is actually smaller, in spite of the improved visuals, particle effects, textures, resolution, etc. This goes to show how important the SSD is also in game sizes, as no duplication of assets is required.

Minecraft had already sold over 50million copies in every format possible before MS bought Mojang.
They get over $100million per year just by purchases within minecraft mobile.

Do I hold a weird position? I find many discussions on this go to the extreme ends of the spectrum, with people saying "fuck old games, I want new console for new games".

In short: I value backwards compatiblity, but not cross gen games that hold back new gen development. I see it as a value-add if someone were to kick ass with new games, and also offer one console for older games on the same device. At the moment, no console fulfils that role in my eyes.

I don't really need older games to be free, enhanced, have trophies added or anything like that. I'd even re-buy them digitally if only they'd get put onto the PStore. Anyone else feel the same, like Sony in particular is leaving a load of money on the table?

For instance: I'd have paid 500+ if there was a PS5 PRO that was the only model to offer PS1-2-3-4 BC.

And that's fine, the gameplay is still fire. I WISH the game was more gameplay to cutscene balanced. I still want the MP and future games in the series, but this wasn't it. And anyone saying the game is some flawless masterpiece and any haters are homophobes etc are completely rediculous.


The story beats/character personality changes, and pacing of the gameplay and story jumping from person to person are all shite. In my opinion.

Thankfully, I was lucky enough to finally snag a PS5 FAT and the camera pre-order from there before drop off this morning - before they sold out in 2mins.

Hopefully argos delivery isn't the week late nonsense for console launch like they did with the Wii 15years ago - it was embarrassing having friends ask: "have you got, yet?" for a week - but even if it is a week late, I'm just relieved to get an order before xmas.

I'd sure hope not. My PC takes that long to boot into Windows 10, and my SSD isn't as fast as the one in the PS5. PS5 OS would either have a much larger footprint than Windows, or Sony is wasting a lot of time on worthless animations.

Only Gears 5 has ray tracing for BC, don't make it looks like all of the old games will have a same treatment, Microsoft probably patched gears 5 to show off xbox series x capabilities because they don't have any next gen game available. Also don't bash Spider-Man remaster just yet, it might looks better than Halo infinite, if it really is, i would gladly pay 20$$.

We're only 46 (Xbox), 48-55 (PS5) days until launch, let's get hyped. What's the first game everyone will be playing on their shiny new consoles?
Mine will probably be Demon's Souls or CoD if I get it, the beta was a bit meh though (also blurry as fuck on the Pro).

Honestly, after I boot up the PS5 I'll probably explore the OS for a bit, configure any settings that need adjusting and hop into Astro's Playroom. I'm sure it's going to do some really cool stuff with the DualSense and 3D audio.

The first actual game I play will be either Demon's Souls or Destiny 2 Beyond Light. I'm also curious to see how some other current gen games run so I'll be testing out GoT, Monster Hunter World, and HZD. Fingers crossed some of these get patches down the line.

How exactly - when it is probably less efficient than the PS5 (or equal at best) and will use less power(in watts) than the PS5? This isn't like comparing different mfr architectures, the XsX and PS5 chips are equal by the technology that was offered by AMD, but with Playstation going more custom. So PS5 using more power than the XsX at maximum computation certainly doesn't make it a PS4 less, it makes it more computationally powerful.

If what Cerny has stated is true - and I fully believe it is because of what we've seen from UE5 and being graphically as light as Fortnite GPU workloads- then the PS5 is more powerful at launch than the XsX, and that gap will get bigger, based on the new software optimisation paradigm being for power on PS5 - an optimisation paradigm that will actual cause issues for old power/cooling setups.

Last time I checked Microsoft live in the same planet and they have a better management on things from the start of introducing the console until pre-orders. Sony marketing and management mess up is not new. It’s not just pre-orders. It’s a mess from the very start and pre-orders opening suddenly added to the shortage.
