Why Haven't All Of The PS5 GPU Features Been Revealed?

The chances are that some features of the gpu are Cerny/AMD collaborations and are still under NDA until Zen 3 is announced.

No this isn't a Sony secret sauce post, its just an educated guess based on the previous work that cerny and AMD have done.

If you doubt that Cerny has that ability, bear in mind that he has created the worlds fastest SSD for consumers (not including the £20k server thing)

They were probably going to announce, then Bethesda got bought, and now they need to lick wounds for another couple of weeks /s. You really holding out to learn whether GPU has some type of VRS/machine learning or not?
I'm still going to get one hopefully a disc less when they're available. Still would be nice to know what features the system im buying is capable of. I don't see why all the secretcy seeing that Microsoft features are already set in stone

Its less than 2 months before PS5 release and Sony hasn't said if PS5 has machine learning or Variable Rate Shading. Jim Ryan has already proven himself to be less than forthright with information. Are these features in or not?

Is that you in your avatar?

Neither company has revealed their full GPU details, even MS at Hotchips would not talk about L1 cache or arrangement and glossed over details even when asked or referred to AMD.

Probably both waiting on full steam ahead for RDNA2 secrets from AMD who ahve published allot of patents in last 6 months.

Dont know why your want either console to have VRS, last images i saw, no thanks.

No, he hasn't. It was a team effort.
This kind of thing where someone acts as a super engineer who has a big eureka moment is not real.

And can you please tell me about all the things the Cerny/AMD collaboration has bring to the table?

You want him to explain all the stuff and beyond?

It doesn’t matter is why. Devs know, and we can see what the games look like. If you don’t like how the games look and it’s that important to you don’t buy. I can guarantee not a single person is buying the XSX because MS gave a presentation at Hot Chips though
I can beat some are buying it because of features of the gpu shown and power it has.

My impression is that Sony is trying to speak with their games rather than a breakdown of the specs that only hardcore enthusiasts would truly understand and appreciate.

Suddenly, percentage differences between different hardware components become a little irrelevant when you see a graphical and technical impressive game.

The multiplatform comparisons will be the one to watch.

Why do I keep seeing people saying Jim Ryan name so much lately Is this y'all attempt to make him into the new Don Maverick or something? lol

Lots and lots and lots of people throughout history show you are so wrong that I'm not going to bother replying. To be so ignorant of achievements that Engineers across all industries, boggles my mind.

The average consumer frankly doesn't care or even understand deep dives. See the original reveal for GDC. They also iirc didn't really do much of a deep dive on the 4 either. I get the want to know. But it would likely be a waste of their time anyways.

Not to downplay the thing, but Richard from DF mentioned that multiple devs are supper happy with PS5 development kits. So whether these techs are there or not, I dont think they'll make a big difference.
Well, it is obvious more complicated to use these features. I really don't think that Sonys GPU has many more features than PS4 pro just because the sdk seems to be more like an upgrade instead of a new thing. Most features could be used before just by brute forcing via shades. Now there are more features directly in hardware, so the difference is just, that they are now really usable, but the api might not change that much.

And MS wants to make it developers as easy as possible to interact with many more systems at the same time with different feature levels (PCs) which obvious doesn't make it easier at all, but if this works, ports are much easier to produce than bevor.

Did they do it with PS4, PS3, PS2, or PS1?

¿I mean, did they detailed everything for customer purposes?

Ask me about my Stream Deck
It is so crazy this got bought up. I know most people have been thinking about this exact concern quite a bit. Why, I was just at the circle k buying some beer and I heard a lady telling her kid that if the ps5 doesn't have GPU based machine learning and variable rate shading, they wouldn't be getting it. The poor kids face dropped, but then a crippled homeless guy begging for change at the entrance hobbled in and said the Xbox would have both these features and everyone in the whole gas station started cheering. I heard the Mom tell her kid they would stay up tonight to try and pre-order at midnight and the kid started crying tears of joy. Miraculously the homeless guy's limp went away and as I walked out I heard him say he found a discarded lotto ticket worth $500 and that he was going to use it to get the series x. Crazy world out there.

Yeah we all agree that Halo Infinite looks like a bag of dog shit. Doesn't change what's under the GPU hood of the system that run it

If you can see the VRS, its shit.

Sony have a different VRS patent anyway that is for VR if you bothered to look, so does not matter either way if that is your thing.

And if you not using ML for DLSS type upscaling, then again whats it used for in current games. I think both consoles do better with temporal as seen in UE5 demio, that was nice, but whatever.

You've got to let that go man. Just like the whole "Sony has their own mesh shaders/ ML" they don't.
If it's not VRS...it's not VRS they may implement a different method that offers the same results fantastic, hell impressive even but stop calling it VRS. I'm sure Sony has an actual name for the Turing they use.

Same with shaders. Mesh is objectively better than Prim, do they kind of do the same thing? Yeah are they the same? Absolutely not.

Same with ML, AI assisted Uprez is not ML. Machine learning has benefits far beyond texture.
