Microsoft Responds to PS5 Pre-Order Chaos with Promise of Exact Pre-order Time for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S
Sony previously promised that PS5 pre-orders would not be a surprise.
Following the chaotic commencement of PlayStation 5 pre-orders, Microsoft has reiterated that it will let the world know exactly what time pre-orders go live for the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. Xbox's Tweet, which arrived following the trouble surrounding PS5 pre-orders, reminded all of the September 22 pre-order date and the worldwide launch in 36 countries on November 10, and included a reassurance that Xbox will "let you know the exact time pre-orders start for you soon."

This story began after Sony held its PlayStation 5 Showcase event and finally revealed the price and release date for the PS5. While it featured such games as Final Fantasy XVI, a God of War sequel, and Hogwarts Legacy, the presentation made no mention of pre-orders.

Interestingly enough, the first we heard of PlayStation 5 pre-orders came after the show via Geoff Keighley, who said "per Sony, #PlayStation5 pre-orders will be available starting TOMORROW at select retailers."

A few minutes later, PlayStation confirmed Keighley's Tweet, but gave no further information as to when the pre-orders would go live. While many were expecting nothing to happen until tomorrow, pre-orders seemingly went live on Walmart. This was no mistake, as Walmart then Tweeted out "make you wait to get the new #PlayStation5? Nah, that's not like us. Go on, preorder it NOW!"

This sent the internet ablaze with many attempting to secure a PlayStation 5 on launch day. GameStop and Target pre-orders then went live, followed by Best Buy and Amazon. Speaking from personal experience, I attempted to secure a PS5 from Best Buy for OVER TWO HOURS before it was claimed to be sold out. In all honesty, the experience of trial and error felt akin to what I imagine a Bloodborne 2 would be like on PS5, well... without the hard-fought victory at the end.

To make matters even more confusing, PlayStation sent out e-mails to those who signed up for a chance to pre-order a PS5 directly from Sony. Its unclear why certain people were chosen over others, as all PlayStation said was that its selection would be "based on previous interests and PlayStation activities."
Every Game and Announcement Featured in the PlayStation 5 Showcase Event
As of writing, PlayStation has yet to comment on tonight's events, but it does go against its previous comments that promised PS5 pre-orders would not be a surprise.

Hopefully, we will hear more of a set plan for PlayStation 5 pre-orders in the coming hours, and we will keep our 'where to pre-order PS5 guide' up-to-date with all you need to know to secure your new console!

This is good of them to do. A lot of people missed out on PS5 preorders because Sony decided to drop it out of the blue but I'll say this and I'm not joking. I don't think XSX/XSS collectively will sell out and if they do, it won't be fast. I'm sure all the people who want one will get one.

They already told us 22nd Sep. So obviously it all starts midnight. Isn't this the case always? There's no need to tell us a specific time.

But they just wanted to throw out a tweet doing some marketing and reminding people they're still here. Business is business.

No. Because target already has a landing page that says 10 am central. So not midnight.

You're delusional if you think it won't sell out as fast under the pandemic we're in, they only have limited compared to usual launches.

I went to my local GAME UK store trying to get a PS5 preorder. They're notorious for taking your money regardless as other UK gaf members could attest too. But to my jaw dropping shock I was turned down at the counter. They had to wait on management to give them a green light to accept more pre orders.

The manager said they'd been swamped and while I was there their phone was ringing non stop for PS5 preorders. This is anecdotal evidence of course but it'll be interesting to see how things play out.

As chaotic as it's been. The momentum PS5 has is staggering when you see it in real time.

It doesn't matter if you come with an exact time, the issue is the 1 limit per customer. Scalpers use bots to buy several at time fucking up the entire console economy then gouge the prices on Ebay. Ebay is the biggest fucking problem.

I was also surprised Sony didn't put "available at launch" after Demon's Souls and Spiderman in the showcase. That's important information and would only add to the hype since it's positive.

Sony definitely fucked up this event. Felt very rushed and thrown together. Still miles ahead of the competition. But errors like Demon's Souls coming to PC, etc. Why would you not put Launch title in the god damn event? Who the hell reads twitter?

This is bad business practice, they should have created the same chaos PS did it was perfectly executed said every single PS fanboy.

I am still debating where to pre-order, not sure if I will sell my One X privately for around $300 or just give it up to GameStop for $200.

At least one big Finnish retailer already stated that xsex / xses are available earliest at january, because of difficulties to get them.

So they can promise pre-orders but they cant promise consoles it seems. So expect limited run

Coming from someone who has been F5'ing since 5am for a 3080 gpu that was announced to go on sale @ 6am yesterday, this announcement means absolutely jack shit. It only tells the scalpers and bots the exact time to be prepared. Good luck to every person who actually wants one, hope you get one!

Xbox is not the same as a 3080....do not see scalpers risking money for a product not so demanded. Thing Microsoft also has more units at lauch than Sony so wont be scarse.

Haha! This is going to end badly for hardcore gamers. Not only are you going to be competing with nerds like the ones that make up these gaming forums, but now you’re going to be competing with Little Bobby and his mom Karen, and his dad Chad the scalper. Sony did it right. Do a surprise launch and give the hardcore gamers first dibs.
