The problem was the scalpers. Most likely scalpers got more ps5 consoles than Gamers. Also stock was very limited. I don't see this chaos as anything special for sony, if anything it was a HUGE clusterfuck. Microsoft gave people a date pre-orders will be available, everything is already planned out. A site may crash due to the influx of so many hit at the same time but once again scalpers will be looking to grab as many as possible so there is no metric how to judge who sold better.
Just this morning scalpers decimated the nvidia 3080's and are selling them for over 1000 on eBay. Ps5's are selling for 800-1500 on eBay.

I got an pre-order invitation from Sony that says I can use it on Friday morning at 10AM. Guess I'll give it a shot and see what happens, but I'm not really hyped for the PS5 launch lineup lol

Yeah, plus it's not exactly a great time economically to be scalping.
So I snagged a digital on amazon.de but I live in the US. Besides the power supply does anyone know of anything else that I should be aware of? Is it literally the exact same console? I don’t have to worry about blu-ray region because its digital but anything I need to know about the PlayStation store or anything else?

It was going to be carnage and - to be frank - I blame Sony. They left retailers hanging forever while having this faux Mexican standoff over price and as soon as one of them started to field orders, the others weren't going to sit back and watch buyers go mad without getting in on the action.
It was hilarious how badly BB shit the bed, but Sony could have avoided the stampede if they were more open and rigid about how the ordering process would go.

All retailers will get more allotment before launch, same thing happened with the PS4. Stores started taking pre-orders the night they announced the price at E3, they had very limited numbers and as time went on they got more. My local GS had under 30 available for pre-order on day one but by the time launch day came around they had somewhere around 300 pre-orders they ended up filling that day. As for the stuff Grubb is trying to spread about them making fewer digital editions all I know is the GS I went to had more digital editions than standards for pre-order so it obviously depends on the location and again there will be many more made available before launch so it's stupid to try to make something out of this now. I tried to tell him on twitter yesterday but I am blocked because I pointed out how he was wrong about MS getting rid of the gold requirement for online play.

At this point I think the registering at all the GS, bestbuy, target, etc was just a way to get your email.

Me and my buddy stayed up online and kept spamming our carts at bestbuy.com and at around 2:58 AM after hours and hours of spam clicks we managed to both place our orders for a physical edition.
I then decided to do an experiment and see if I could also get the digital, fast forward 5 minutes later , I managed to also get the digital.
The physicial edition I have to go pick up at my local store and the digital will be shipped to me by the 12th of Novemeber.
Honestly, if you really want one super bad your best bad is to sit at a computer and refresh until your able to drop an item into your cart and go from there. This is how we both sniped it at same time.

I used to do sell one or two consoles back when 360/ps3 launched and ps4/x1 launched and it just ain't worth it. People can do what they want and I don't really have any issues with scalpers who want to make a quick buck but I don't think people will make so much money compared to the risk involved. First off, ebay favors buyers way more than sellers so there's a chance that you sell the console, buyer opens a refund or SNAD case and does a return. Who knows what the buyer may send back. Could be your PS5 untouched, could be a rock in a box. Plus I see there's over 5000 listings of PS5. This will most likely make the price fall especially as more preorders are released. I already see a bunch for $600 discless/$700 disc with free shipping. I remember dealing with quite a few people on ebay who bought my consoles and tried to cancel and just left negative feedback. It's a shitshow when you're dealing with these consoles. Best of luck though.

Most transactions go smooth but some go to shit. This is from experience where one 1000 dollar sale that had a bullshit reason for return and being forced to take it 60+ days after they had it? Ebay is something where you only sell what you can afford to lose. That or scare the shit out of someone with the police, postal fraud and litigation.
