I'm trying to understand where supporting the PS4 until 2024 implies games will be cross gen until there.
I'm not happy with SMMM and HFW being cross gen, but I take that over us getting "remasters" in the next 6 months like it happened with TLOU. Sony has also released exclusives for the older consoles after next gen releases (GOW2 on the PS2 comes to mind).

Just like you, I've been enjoying the last few months shitting on Xbox for their cross-gen antics. I've been relishing the opportunity to throw yesterday's PS5 showcase in the face of Xbox fans as a 'AHA TAKE THAT BITCHES' moment but after that we find out that at the very least, Horizon Forbidden West and the Miles Morales game are coming to PS4 as well as PS5.
I'm stoked as much as you are for PS5 but come on. Although they didn't necessarily say those games would be PS5 exclusive, the messaging very strongly hinted at it and for them to now mention, almost in passing as if they don't want to draw attention to it, that two of the key first party titles aren't actually next-gen exclusive.................. it's just a bit of a slap in the face.
Do you not hate being lied to? I know I do. Sure it's not lying if they never technically said those games wouldn't come to PS4, but it's effectively the same thing. They've been riding the wave of hate towards Xbox and it turns out what they're doing isn't really much different. If we try to hide behind the fine print then we're doing what the 'other side' did.
So, again, calling all fellow Pureisuteishon lovers, let's call it out because if we don't do it then we're just as bad as the Xbots who blindly support the likes of Aaron Greenscreen and Phil Spritzer.

You're right higher framerates too, but my point still stands. I'm not saying the console as a whole is not going to be a massive improvement in what it is capable of over the previous gen. I am just saying that by definition a cross generation game is not going to be able to take advantage of this hardware in its game design and mechanics, unless they are completely different builds (like Sadow of Mordor was at the start of last gen) in which case we will see.

I dont see what makes his statement untrue. Microsoft said title needs to work on XBOX ONE. Sony “no”. Theres a bunch of PS5 games that dont work PS4, some do. I can only think of one that isnt playable on XBO. The controller is new, Xbox SX isnt. PS5 has the higest available standards for wifi, usb, bluetooth, SSD.

Personally I didn't think that they weren't going to release anything on PS4 any more anyway. I was actually surprised when it seemed that Spiderman wasn't coming to PS4, since it just looks like a good remaster of a PS4 game. Horizon being cross-gen is more surprising, since it's still a ways out probably, and could really use not being held back by PS4, but it could also be coming out sooner than expected.
I was expecting Sony to do a mix of next-gen only and cross-gen for the first year, then focus on PS5 solely. I think that's a good middle ground, and pretty much what they're doing. It's very different than saying: for the first two years everything we make will be cross-gen.
However, make the next GoW cross-gen and I'll riot.

Real tragedy that all PS4 customers who can't get a PS5 because of shortages or financial difficulties have access to some bigger Sony titles for a year or two more. I prefer when companies stop supporting and updating their hardware soon as the new shiny is out and leave me in the dust when I can't or don't intend to keep up with their releases.

what is a first it's for sony first party games to be supporting the last gen machine, usually, since third parties are not gonna make the jump first party game are who pick up the slack releasing the next gen games so it feels pretty lame of them to not be putting the resources where it counts.

Exactly. I don't believe any major company is going to be SOOOO consumer friendly, that's not a thing. They want and need money to get by.
The only thing that can actually change between these companies is how open they are with their community. I'll always appreciate a company for being upfront about things than not.

That has nothing to do with gaining your trust or support again. Repenting is a direct action in admitting that you did something wrong. Sony made a business decision. That's it. Nothing to repent for.

I still think you're making too big of a deal over this.. I just remember in past generations where late gen games would be released for both platforms, and you had to buy one or the other, the fact that they are now the same version that will get graphical improvements on the newer system is fine IMO.

Sony has learned what everyone else already knew. Most people don't want to give up their existing games when they get new kit. "I buy new consoles for new games" is not the majority opinion and it never was. "I paid $1,000 for a new CPU and GPU to only play new games" is not something that PC gamers typically say. They buy those things to get better experiences with their current games as well as run future games. Console players want that, too.
Being able to play existing games on new hardware won't stifle innovation. These companies still need to make and sell new software and they still have to compete with other companies to make money. That's where the innovation comes from. Starving gamers and making them wait for new games is not innovation. It's holding an audience captive.
I am happy to see Sony make this change.
