Xbox Series S Won’t Apply Xbox One X Enhancements, Microsoft Confirms

So much for Series S being a much more powerful Xbox One X with next-gen features being sold at half the price.

All that $$$ to pack next-gen NAVI only to hamstring it by pairing with shit memory along with poor memory bandwidth. If there are existing next-gen demos running at 2K on PS5, imagine the resolution on Series S in few years time? That thing is going to be a slog mid-way through the gen, maybe even earlier.

PS3 had 512 MB of RAM.
PS4 had 16x that.
PS5 at 16x 8 would be 128 GB.

Impossible, but 32 GB would be the stretch goal.

Yet we're having 100x storage speed, so it's a much bigger leap than PS3 --> PS4. PC's won't have that, and people should let go the BS nvidia posted and the bloated TF as the gains aren't that massive going from RTX2000 to RTX3000 and AMD has a big chance of competing than some would imagine.

Hard to Kill
I still don't understand why are people making such a big deal out of it..
It's proibably due to the perceived value of the product. It's easy to think that a next gen console that isn't doing better than the best version of the previous gen has a diminishing perceived value whether true or not.
That perception could be swayed by showing Xss gameplay running on an actual console.
But as of now MS is really shy of showing gameplay captured from their consoles I could speculate about the reason but it would be just that ... Speculations.
But yeah I can totally understand the following cognitive bias if a next gen console isn't capable of what the already released console can , is it more powerful?
Simply because the perception doesn't have to be compatible with logic,no matter if you know it's ram setup is more suited for 1080/1440p as well as its Gpu people will often go to the basic A could do 4K B can't therefore B is worse than A.

Digital Foundry even sepculate that Series S would have to run that UE5 demo at 720p 30.

Interesting comment on Mesh Shaders, may shed light on Cerny's philosophy about the "ease of development" and why Mesh Shading is not supported by the PS5. Although one could say the same for Primitive Shaders but I don't have an in depth understanding of how they work.

i think it would be roughly around 900p.

difference between ps5 and xss is 10.2/4.0=2.55x
1440p is 3.68 million pixels. (2560*1440)
3.68/2.55 = 1.44 million pixels which is exactly 900p (1600*900)

EDIT: the memory bandwidth and amount will have something to say about that too.

He in the end said this previously deleted that tweet :

Surely he was posted deleted tweet in bad faith.

As a former QA person, I think this job is understated with how deep the job can be, because there those people who see the big picture and running it as it's being shipped to the customer, that's where the shitty performance is caught, because nor artist, not engine devs/technical directors really see the whole picture. However since I was also in team with absolut idiots, hard to say where this person belongs.
It's just bullshot, current gen support HDR10, now we should expect both to support Dolby Vision and probably HDR10+ as well. Sony's sound solution is much superior to Atmos, so it's not gonna happen in PS5, they'll support all kinds of headset without the need of fake 3D simulation of 7.1 channel.
Those are terrible, nobody serious about sound cannot use them.

Don't expect either console to support HDR10+. And the PS5 will likely only support HDR10.

PS5 already supports Dolby, and even the higher sound known as Linear PCM.

So Linear PCM should give you raw audio quality, along with the tempest and you have the best sound quality for gaming ever. And for Dolby Vision it's more than likely PS5 will support it, it's already supported in their TV's, along with their "Ready for PS5" TV, the XH90:

PlayStation®5 and Z8H/X90H support 4K/120fps gaming.

They might support Dolby Atmos though for soundbars and systems if it doesn't work as intended with the true 3D audio of the tempest, and the their TV's support Atmos as well so it can be in future firmware updates if needed.
