Disney Tells Movie Theaters It's Over - Mulan Going to Disney+ For $30 in the US

Well to be completely honest, it is only $10 more than norm with Vudu early 4k digital release. Technically it is not rental, it will stay on your account as long as you are still subbed to Disney+.

Also, they also release onward on Disney+ free of charge so I will give them a break.

Supporting Disney is supporting an American company.
And if you are boycotting Mulan but 90% of the stuff in your house is made in China than you are still a commie supporter.
lol
Obviously it didn't take long for him to shit the bed. But remember.. he was there, for a bit, took some pictures for the gram so you don't know what you're on about. /s

Thanks for proving my point. It did almost half what trolls one did with a completely stuck at home captive audience. And the article forgets that digital distros also take a cut.

Sure seems like the sequel ended up being a money loser since after bragging about the 3 week revenue the studio never said a peep after that. Most people assume after marketing and cost it lost money or barely broke even just like I said earlier.

Mulan will absolutely be another money loser straight to digital. PVOD Even with everyone forcefully at home still couldn’t even generate 60% of the revenue of a theater release.

Sol bad with the bad moral relativism take I see.

Its hilarious for people to present cowardice and bargaining with genocide as some kind of intellectual virtue. But then again he liked the Last Jedi which similarly indulged in such simplistic nihilist moralizing.

The lie that by saying “no ethical consumption” you absolve any and all personal responsibility and nothing you do matters. Haha it’s pathetic.

The rest of you: try to be smarter than to fall into this trap.

consolidation continues: we might have studio-owned theaters in the future

Gone are decades-old restrictions on how studios package movies for theaters, plus an end to a ban on vertical integration. Today, a federal judge addresses the possibility that a major studio will merge with a major theatrical chain.

After nearly three quarters of a century being the quiet influence on how Hollywood operated, the Paramount Consent Decrees are officially over. On Friday, a New York federal judge granted a motion by the U.S. Department of Justice to terminate the movie industry's long-lasting licensing rules.

The Paramount Consent Decrees have been in effect since the late 1940s when the government pursued a major antitrust action against film studios, which in those days, were vertically aligned with national theater chains. As a result of the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark 1948 decision in United
States v. Paramount Pictures, the studios had to divest themselves of their exhibition holdings. A court-approved settlement then established rules governing the licensing relationship between certain studios such as Paramount and Warner Bros. and theater owners. Other studios such as The Walt Disney Company weren't part of the original case, but have nevertheless been guided by those Paramount Consent Decrees.

That is the definition of a rental.

What is a rental to you people?

No way in hell I'm spending $30 for a one time view.
No, as long as you keep paying them $7 per month (and then whatever they inevitably raise it to) you can keep watching it whenever you want!

Now, that's value! Disney won't produce any 4K/HDR blu rays because owning an actual copy of a movie in its highest possible visual and auditory fidelity is way worse than keeping up a subscription to stream a $30 low bitrate version instead.

For $30 I would expect getting a physical 4K edition, not a digital edition that also require a Disney subscription.

For movies, I would rather get the physical version.

1. I can get it signed.
2. They usually come with the digital copy anyways.
3. I can add it to my movie collection.
4. They will never be gone if the server is gone.

Physical for movies are a must.
Stream for content.
If the content is really good then buy it physically.
If it's games, go physical if possible, but most of the time they require day one patches now and leaning towards digital or servers to play.

Only 30? For a streaming rental? On top of the subscription? Bargain.

Grace Randolph reviewed it and said this Mulan isn't a Mary Sue, lots of action, is a love letter to Chinese history/culture (not the CCP for a few reasons she lists)... She basically calls it a great movie and worth the $30

Considering that the animated version almost got banned because it was considered an insult to Chinese history and the character. I'm not actually surprised.

Meh, people go to the movies and pay 20 bucks for a ticket and 25 more for snacks and stuff..
30$ does seem quite high, but makes sense... Movie theatres been ripping us off for years. I'll make popcorn at home for like 50 cents :)

Adding to this, I see a 4.1 (user rating) at Metacritic. I’ll be waiting for more reviews since I can’t tell if it’s actually bad or people are just review bombing it because reasons.

Is well know that mulan actress is with CCP and Twitter many times supporting the police brutality in Hong Kong.

the real mulan is Agner Chow.

I wonder if they will release numbers? We don’t really have anything to compare this too
No we don’t but I think more people would of watched it at theaters rather than at home.
Or maybe the movie just sucks 🤷‍♂️
All I know is that the couple of people I asked if there going to watch this for $30 luaghed.

I mean usually you get the box office gross plus + physical release sales + the streaming/TV deals so I'm not sure 30$ bucks on a new streaming service is going to make up for what they're missing out on. Has there even been a substantial merchandise push for it?

This ended up not being a power play at all. Disney knew it was shit so they just decided to use it as an experiment.

"free" on disney plus in december. I can easily wait, or sail the high seas now with that hd quality. ;)

Cause it doesn't make sense to pay 30$ if you are watching it alone.

It was fine, nothing amazing. I actually liked all the parts that did not contain action. The editing during the action was annoying.
Soundtrack was very lacklustre as well unfortunately.
Will watch the original tomorrow.

This thing cost $30 are you kidding me?
Hope it completely fails to be honest.. This is a horrible precedent.

Edit: the fact that this cost $30 additional dollars actually reminds me to cancel my subscription..

We went this over and over again... If you're alone then no that's insane but with the family it's pretty reasonable.

It cost me 34$ yesterday, we went to the dollar store and bought a shitload of candies and snacks, it cost me a total of 45$. Had I been to the theater yesterday the entrance fee would of been 35$ for me and my two kids, plus another 30$ for the snacks for a total of 65$. I also could pause the freaking movie to go piss and make popcorn in the middle of the movie, that's just fucking priceless for me
