PGA Tour 2k21 Reviews are dropping

It’s been so long since Tiger Woods last game that I couldn’t help myself. Saw a couple reviews averaging 70-80 and preordered last minute. Game drops at midnight. Guessing it averages out in high 70s, but don’t really care. Time for some couch golf.

There are lots of game play vids on YT if anyone is curious to see how it looks. Seems like the Devs sent out copies to Youtubers a couple weeks ago to start generating some hype.

If you've played any of The Golf Club games then you already know the basics of the game as this is from the same devs. That game was a bit on the difficult side tho, so they've made some adjustments to make the game easier for people newer to Golf.

The graphics have gotten a nice overhaul too compared to previous games, but it's not a big budget EA title so don't expect anything breathtaking.

Overall looks like a solid game tho.

Buying this tonight too. Won't replace Hot Shots/Everybody's for me (not a fan when they abandon the 3 click swing) - but it should compliment it nicely.

I haven't played a golf game since the 2005 Tiger Woods game.

Does this version also have local multiplayer? If so I might get it.

Been so long since we even had a decent PGA game I think even a good but not great game would satisfy me right now.

I’ve got so many great memories playing Tiger with friends, it was a great game to play at a party-even the ladies liked it!

This looks solid, even without Tiger on the cover I can picture people in the store like, “You all got that new Tiger Woods?”

Wasnt their last game free with gold? I would have to imagine it would play similarly no? Maybe I should give it a go to see how it feels.

I know it uses Unity engine and I think it struggles on consoles.
The previous versions were created by a pretty small team so performance was rough around the edges but not unplayable by any means.

2K had a much bigger hand in the development this time around and based on the reviews I've seen thus far performance does seem to be much better than the 2019 version.

What happened to the EA Sports version of PGA Tour? The one with Tiger, then Rory? It's been several years since the last one. Was it placed on hiatus or something?

I actually preferred the EA version over The Golf Club (which is the predecessor of this game), because it was easier and more casual-friendly, whereas The Golf Club was more realistic and demanding.

EA basically dropped it due to sales.

The Golf Club is the dark souls of golf simulation. It takes time and practice and its not hard after a while, however reaching the pinnacle of elite player where no matter course or conditions is always tough. I will never go back to that casual sense of play, but it is now included in this version where you just click once and hit.

Just 1 hour to go!!

Like the previous post mentioned they have 6 difficulty settings in the game so on the easiest setting the game will play like the old Tiger Woods EA games. Also they have tons of assists you can turn on or off to really fine tune how realistic you want it to be.

If you enjoy Golf I think this game is worth the price. See you on the links boys ⛳

It's done by the studio that did Golf Club, isn't it? No joke, that's hands down one of my most played PS4 games. The physics were great!

Yeah it is. This one is also apparently more accessible but the difficulty is still there if you want it.

I'm in! The most important thing in a golf game is the feeling obviously, how the ball bounces and run and how reliable it is. It felt really good in Golf Club, so I'm trusting them here.

Besides, based time travelling Justin Thomas!

I like golf games because they are relaxing and very replayable. Bought The Golf Club 2 in 2018 for 12€ and it's the most infuriating golf game I have ever played. Putting was specially ridiculous. Also, there was zero progression, an alarming lack of content and several technical issues. Bad purchase, even with the discount price.

I haven't played PGA Tour 2K21 but you can't possibly expect an EA Tiger Woods/Rory McIlroy kind of game from the guys at HB Studios. If you're looking for that you'll be disappointed.

Oh cool, I wasn't aware of all the new difficulty settings. That makes it a contender for me. I'm not a golf player IRL or someone who wants to fiddle with club selection all day. I'm much more of a casual player and just enjoy being "outdoors" on the virtual courses, which can be beautiful at times, and doing my best to calculate shots. I'm like the guy below, who plays mostly for relaxation, not for the challenge of it, so The Golf Club wasn't my style. But this one might be more accessible.

Well, that's sort of what I'm hoping for, with the new/expanded difficulty options.

I probably won't buy the game right away, because I have other things in the cue. I'll watch some reviews and impressions, and I'll try to get a feel for how it is.

Gives me old PS1 vibes of Tiger Woods golf games, IIRC.

So I pre-ordered, made this thread, and fell asleep right before midnight. Anyone try it out yet?

Yeah i've played a few rounds so far on PS4. Seems to run well and plays good.

I don't know if it's the difficulty im on or what but started on the korn ferry q tour thing and so far there is no penalty for being in the bunker or rough or anything to distance etc. Might be something I need to change myself, but have everything set at normal.

You have the setting on that will adjust your aim distance with the percentage penalty factored in. Once you turn it off you will be clubbing up/down a lot when hitting those shots. I think it's turned on by default on the lower difficulty settings. I picked Pro-Am and then customized a bunch of setting to make it a little harder.

It's impressive how many aiming assists you can have turned on this game, beginners will have no trouble playing a fun round with them all turned on.

I played 5 or 6 rounds last night on PS4 Pro and it ran extremely well, and the game looks better than I expected too.

This is fantastic. I bought the PC version. I'm loving it. Endless replay value between the single player tour, user created courses and the online societies. I'll be playing this one for awhile

Tried it out on PC and yes this is a good. I will definitley pick this up when I get through the few games I am trying to finish. I think the visuals are the biggest issue. Its not a looker by any means. I was able to max it out pretty easy on my 2060 and 2600X. It doesnt look bad by any means but its not going to push any boundaries.

I am curious how it looks on ONE X.

Looks much better on PC, plus it's 60fps. Console looks ok but locked at 30.

Honestly I remember a lot of golf games being a really peaceful experience

but i haven't played one in years. been thinking of picking one up, I don't think I'll buy this at full price but I'll try to see what the comparison to last year's version is, maybe I can pick that one up cheap

So for anyone who has played, how does it play compared to Tiger Woods 2004? Or maybe, how does it compared to Tiger Woods at its best?

IMO, TW 2005 was prime golf gaming.

It sometimes bordered on the utterly ridiculous, and I absolutely love it.

Breakdancing and body popping after a birdie, snapping it in half if you miss, one handed golf swings, running up to the tee to smash the ball, the sounds of wolves growling because you hit the ball so hard that it shows the shot in slow motion or repeat's it 6 or 7 times. And don't forget golfing against Justin Timberlake as 'The Hustler' during the Legends Tour.

10/10.

My Golfer nickname was Eagle Eye and you better believe when he got that long putt he celebrated like a true Eagle Eye.

Sinking a long putt was quite satisfying, and there was the added tensions when you got the heartbeat slow mo shot of the putting.

I had high hopes for that Rory game from EA but the stripped all things like that.
It gave the games character. I think a move back to gameplay like that would only benefit these sorts of games. And simulation game modes/difficulties can always be included.

After Tiger got caught being an imperfect human being EA dropped him and sales tanked.
