XSX - 599$
PS5 - 549$
PS5 DE - 449$
XSS - 399$

most reasonable pricing IMO. Of course i want it all to be at least 50$ cheaper but common.
Or if we assume a $100 price rise from PS4 Pro, One X, and One S, we get this:

XSX - $600
PS5 - $500 (PS5 DE - $450)
XSS - $400

Sony started with a $400 console in 2016. Microsoft was already starting with a $500 console in 2017.

The Xbox One X had a bigger GPU, was most powerful, but had to cost $100 more. I don't see why this time would be any different.

thanks to the bait thread of Sony first party games on PC I took a look at their report and damn, I don't remember who talked about Sony bleeding out Microsoft, but after reading it what they plan to PS5...they will go for the jugular.

I believe it was HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 who said that.

I'm going to look through that report but feel free to post anything that you found interesting from it.

I just don't think $300 is low enough to DO anything for MS. I mean, what will be the advantage? Unless the other consoles are both $599.... which I don't think they will be. I think the series S would have to be $199 for it to do much. I mean, what's the draw... 'run the same games as XSX but on your regular HD TV!' Yeah, I don't see the selling point there, especially when I can run the same game on an Xbox1 and get that for cheap. So would have to be $199 or lower, I think. It's still a BIG danger of cannibalizing Microsoft's XSX sales then, so we'll just have to see. I just don't see the point in this Series S thing. Not unless it's something completely different from what people are thinking it is.

I think this is why it hasn't been seen yet. MS would have announced it as well if it was ready to go NOW, IMO, even if they didn't announce the prices of series S and X yet...we should have seen it. I think if anything, it's meant to release next year or the year after when they have actual XSX exclusive titles ready to show.

I don't think $300 is as much (or at all) a problem as a compelling games line-up or a disc drive. Also I'm amazed they have been able to keep Lockhart entirely under wraps. They can do so when they want! Although I get funny feeling it is a real possibility it won't launch until next year which would actually be the biggest mistake they could make IMO as XSX won't have a chance against the the two PS5 SKUs and by next Spring it would probably be too late to do anything about it.

The biggest increase in relative build cost adjusted for time is the SSD & I/O silicon. PCIe Gen4 and flash storage, plus custom hardware, is much more expensive than a SATA 2.5" 5400 rpm HDD was back in 2013.

Microsoft themselves at Hot Chips said the XSX SOC is their highest cost chip yet, compared to One X and One.

Add those cost increases plus inflation to the One X build cost, which was sold at $500 for a loss in 2017, and the Series X could easily need to be sold at $600 for Microsoft just to break even.

Thats why so many aspects of the Series X are the same as the One X, it's all ways to save on bill of materials. Adding USB-C ports, adding features to the controller, adding WiFi 6 802.11ax, etc... All that would add more cost.

Sony is doing that. Microsoft doesn't want to spend those extra bits, perhaps they don't think they need to. Or they knew the XSX would cost too much if they did. Lockhart's entire existence seems to show they're not targeting a lower price for XSX. It will be pricey.

Sure the SOC no doubt costs more today than 7 years ago or even over the One X SOC, but that slide also explained what they did to mitigate a lot of the additional costs. Not to mention the fact they will be using the SOC in the Azure data-centers. A huge cost saving right there. Sad to say I'm more excited about their pricing structure than the games line-up....

I also think it'll be 250-300

You know that 4 years ago X1S was launched at 249$. And MSRP for that discontinued console is still 249$

EDIT : was wrong about launch price. cheapest one was 299$ for 500GB model. Well, MSRP is now 249$

Here is the first game captured straight from the Xbox Series X ..

Captured on Xbox Series X

Hey look! It's the Xbox version of "Volcano High!" (a.k.a 'Domestic Bliss in Space') :)

All kidding aside this has an interesting artistic look. I can't quite figure out the gameplay...like why they don't just fly up to that part on the mountain and have to zig and zag around for a few minutes instead...but it looks interesting. Possibly not what I'm looking for myself, but I'm sure we'll see more on it in the coming months. Who knows!

Lmfaooo. The entire report reenphasizes how important exclusives are and how their main goal is to get people to consume the PS platform and choose it as their primary gaming device. But now everyone looked at the one line saying they will "explore" PC releases as confirmation they are doing day and date on ps5. For Christmas sake they just put another exclusive tag on ratchet in the latest gameplay trailer.

Wait,Wait. So xbox couldn't show their flagship game & partners games running on XSX. In their own next gen showcase. But can show XSX captured footage of an indie game in a random IGN show.

No footage of the games they have marketing rights for. But this indie game right here. All of a sudden a day after all the xbox guys questioned XSX gameplay. This indie game which has been shown before with the same footage.

But this This indie game right here was captured on an XSX. Bruh shit look goofy. Of all events a random show. How much they pay IGN to put that text in.

They'll likely have it onconsole exclusively first for at least 1-2 years then release the pc port

I'm a bit surprised that Ratchet and Clank is 4k. Do we know for sure that it's native 4k, and not 4k cb? I would've thought that native 4k wouldn't be a common thing next gen. After all, the jump in resolution from 1080p to 4k is much bigger than the jump from 720p to 1080p was, while the jump in performance (in raw TF) is smaller.

I just don't see how it's possible to achieve proper next gen graphics at native 4k, even at 30fps. I thought that was the whole point of these fancy image reconstruction techniques we've seen on Ps4 Pro, to get a high resolution image without wasting all that hardware power on raw pixels. Do we know which other announced next gen games are native 4k?

On another matter, can we expect Sony to sell their own SSDs to expand storage (like they did with Memory Cards back in the day)? Or are they leaving the field entirely open to third party manufacturers?

Native 4k with some RT. They are also offering a 60fps mode with graphics optikns
PS5 got all these "POWA" people hurt. GOTTT DAMN. BO gave him/she that work.

I like that gif. There doesnt seem to be a lot of boxing fans anymore.

That thread is a train wreck.

One S was $300 in 2106 for 500 GB and $350 for 1 TB.

Precisely that. I was wrong. Will edit my post. But anyway, MSRP is now 249$ for 1TB

The Xbox One S goes on sale this August, starting with the 2TB launch edition, which has been priced at $399. The 1TB and 500GB variants will be hitting the shelves later with $349 and $299 price tags respectively.

So are we expecting Ratchet and Clank 60fps mode to be 1440p checkerboard to 4K or what? Really curious if Sony has improved upon their checkerboarding technique, but as with anything related to PS5, everyone's mouths are zipped shut.

I see this as a great option for people that are next-gen gaming on 1080P sets.

Probably half the current resolution, with some upscaling or something

"I would say a learning from the Xbox One generation is we will not be out of position on power or price,” says Phil Spencer.

He does not say anything about 1 specific console, just Xbox in general. Also, Phil lies from time to time.

And Series S will probably be $300 or $350, but $400 is possible if all the next gen consoles are priced higher than we think.

Well hell...all this time people have been saying he said they would not be BEAT on power or price. What he actually said was much different. Not being 'out of position' is HIGHLY relative. Meaning they could say they are in position even if they were $100 higher by saying they present more VALUE, even if that value is just GamePass. People have really twisted the hell out of this quote. Now? Well it doesn't mean they will undercut Sony on price AT ALL. Just that for THEM, they will be "in position." Sheesh. Well, I guess it just shows the power of fanboy wishful thinking twisting this quote into something it was not!

And this is from Phillip. He says every single year is their best lineup of games ever and "felt really good" after seeing the PS5 June event. So ...

Sony has patents for ML like dlss so it could be a mixture of checkerboard and ML

Totally agree. I think they've already TOLD us the pricing basically. I mean the XB1S is $299 now with GamePass for 24 months. Ok. So the SERIES S will take that place. Period. Then they can have the XSX at what I believe will be $499 or $550 depending on how Covid has hammered things. They have a "premium" and a "budget" option then. The end. PS5 will be $499 and (I believe) $399 for the digital...might be $450 as people are saying. I don't think this will materially change the marketplace, especially if Sony keeps online costs at $30-$60 per year. Maybe offer an option WITH PSNow that costs an extra $30-$60 a year? Not sure. But I cannot believe I'd forgotten about the XB1S that's available now! I really think that "Lockhart" will be a replacement for that and at the same pricing level. We'll see!

I can't be wrong but I still believe Sony will only port old games to PC near announce/release of sequels or spin-offs on PS5.
That can be anything from 2 to 5 years or more.
Yeah definitely, I think some fans are already having panic attacks but honestly it's a great business strategy from Sony. The only instance in which I see Sony porting the first party exclusives to PC is if they have a sequel to that exclusive coming to the PS5, as is the case with Horizon Zero Dawn. So if we see a game like Bloodborne getting ported to PC it means there's a sequel very likely in development.
