Control is quietly coming to Steam

I tagged this as hype, but there's a complete lack of hype surrounding the upcoming August release. Remedy's Twitter and the official Control account don't mention anything, no date except for the month & year, no forum posts. But that's okay, this is consistent with previous EGS timed exclusive titles having near complete media blackouts until they release. The silence is at shadow in the warp levels with gaming press not writing anything about it (they're busy churning out SocJus clickbait anyway).

So, anyone else actually hyped for the Steam release, and did you catch the "leak" that it'll include Steam Workshop support? Which sounds like a fantastic feature for a game that's basically SCP Foundation - The Game. A subject surely worthy of hype, articles and scores of forum posts. For now there's only suffocating silence.

With workshop, nice.

Also that EGS exclusive deal has these games on hard lockdown until the clock says 00:00:00, i mean it has a Steam page with no release date and yet we know its coming this month.

I've been waiting for it to come to Steam or Game Pass. Been wanting to play it, but didn't want to give EGS money.

Will definitely pick up once it can be had for $20 or less.

The thing has been out for months, why would there be hype? If somebody was really hyped for the game, they would already own it on either PC or console. The people left are either the undecided expecting a deep sale or those 14 guys that only buy on steam.

Control needs to go loudly as possible, best game this gen, so they should use their very own shit:

Was fun.

Although - the Foundation DLC was a confusing decision to take the worst, laggiest, and story-devoid elements of the core game and make a DLC revolving around those actions. Maybe there was more, but I didn't even bother finishing the trials because they seemed so mindless.

Also, no idea what the many writers were actually writing, there wasn't enough characters or content to justify a writing team of more than .5 people, and Sam Lake was likely all that needed. You can almost feel the extraneous pain of adding extra writers when you get to the vomit clock and the mold levels (although "It smells delicious" line for the mold levels was worth it even if the level design was ass).

Not sure if anyone else got this vibe, but the

the town of Ordinary in the lore fragments was far grosser and scarier than what they showed in the game, so I appreciated that writing aspect of it. Also, after a while the Objects of Power started getting formulaic and boring, especially the stop light/flamingo.

Hope future DLC is better and actually resolves the story, which was another problem - I felt like I didn't really change anything except maintain the game's status quo so they could recycle the same enemies for the DLC :pie_eyeroll:.

Totally missed you could get secrets by TK blast-launching off walls until late and reading the FAQ. I thought I had to unlock some super tier TK to get objects too far away, but nope. Fucking irritating.

Like all that sell their souls to EGS, I'll get it later on a deep discount or in a bundle. Well, except Samurai Showdown, I'll buy that one as soon as it releases on Steam.

I was supposed to get this with my 2070 Super but Amazon and Nvidia got in an argument and I got caught in the crossfire with no free games. I was so mad, I was really looking forward to this game too.

I'll get it on the first Steam sale it goes on.

The things that happened in Ordinary are pure nightmare fuel, on par or exceeding most of the events of the actual game. It would have made sense to have Ordinary or parts of Ordinary in the opening prologue or scattered throughout the game as flashbacks.

If that would have ruined Jesse gradually seeing how deep the supernatural rabbit hole goes and her connections to Ordinary, then have it as a major flashback section of the game, or even a major DLC expansion.

Thing is, the events that take place involve children and are so messed up and twisted on a Stephen King level I could see why ratings boards would flatly refuse to allow any depictions of it.

If the price will be the same as on EGS and if there'll be launch day 50% discount on Steam, I'll buy the game immediately... along with maybe season pass.

I was hyped until I learned there would be a PS5 version. The PS5 is more powerful than my PC so I don't know whether to wait even longer... (I've been waiting two years to play all sorts on PS5 at this point) or just try it on my PC and see what I get. I don't have an RTX card though. :(

Great game. I found it to be slightly underrated. It is unique in many ways, extremely stylish and the gameplay is a lot of fun.

It is not the best game of the generation, but it is worth a playthrough and depending on your taste it might be a gem for you.
Happy that a game like this exists.

Gave up halfway through. Super generic third person combat, the environment is cool but it didn't keep me anywhere near engaged enough to care. Maybe it gets great in the back end but I didn't stick around.

While I enjoyed the main game, the DLC that finally got released on Xbox made me realise how average the game is. The combat is the worst. Those flying wheelchair trolls dodging everything on sight like wtf. Even Quantum Break is better.

I just realised the woman who plays the main character in Control is the same woman who plays the redhead in The Bold and The Beautiful.

All this time I thought it was just a strong resemblance.

I hope it's sold as a "complete edition" rather than being forced to buy the game and season pass separately like you are on the EGS.

There have been many incidents where I was excited about a game, saw it was on EGS, skipped it, then when it landed on Steam I just shrugged. You can add Control to that list, although I can also live without playing as female Jay Leno.

Fantastic game, the Ashtray Maze is one of the best gaming experiences of this generation.

Still I wonder what the Modding support will be like, Alan Wake as the main character seems obvious (when is that DLC actually?)

Interesting how they squared her jaw, can someone tell these SJW's that women can be strong without having to look like a caveman

Ashtray Maze was pretty rad, although

it had been a little clearer when you couldn't solve it the first time there. I must have tried to TK launch myself through every disappearing wall for an hour, convinced it was a timing/reflex thing. Also, while I liked the thematic tie to Jesse's song from her youth (?) I wish I liked the actual song more when I finally was going through the maze. Still very cool, though, loved the whole feel of it.

Boring. Got maybe less than half way and just stopped playing. I may go back and finish it sometime. More random offices to walk around and more papers and desks to throw.

Game was decent but slightly underwhelming.
Nice visuals and I really enjoyed the shooting, specially once you unlock a few of the powers.

But the story was pretty uninteresting and I wasn't sold on the "open areas / metroidvania inspired" design. If anything the game is at its best in the more linear and scripted moments.

It's live! Been looking forward to playing this for a while. I was thinking about waiting for it to come to Game Pass, but it's $27.19 on GMG right now with no tax, so I pulled the trigger.

Looking forward to diving in.
