Right now we have two massive first-person fantasy RPGs slated to release some years into the 9th gen. On one hand we have Bethesda's next entry into The Elder Scrolls, on the other we have Obsidian's new game set in the same world as Pillars of Eternity. Little to nothing is known about the contents of these games, so we can't really know which will turn out best, but which of these two are you most anticipating?

Personally, I care deeply about the world of The Elder Scrolls, and I'm excited to see it expanded, and to explore an unvisited region (outside Online). And with the series' massive modding community, I could have another game I'll never tire of playing! I'll play Avowed too, but TES6 is the title that'll be most on my mind.

Bethesda have messed quite a few things up, by it's still an iteration in a long running series that has an established world with a hell of a lot going on. The Fallout 76 dialogue options suggest they won't pull a Fallout 4 again, which is essential. Skyrim didn't become my most played game by having the same voice every time.

Avowed is something new. But Obsidian likes the Critical Role lot so we'll likely hear their talents again. Not much else to say at this point, it's a little unfair to Avowed. I'm hoping for good things.

We've seen nothing but announcement trailers for both. I am excited for none of those until I see what's under the hood. I have little faith left in Bethesda and Obsidian hasn't done a truly AAA game in a while.

What can I say? Im an RPG fan! But I guess TES because the lore is dope
Yay you chose :lollipop_smiling_face_eyes:
I'm excited for both too of course! But I wanna know what folk are most excited for, though this would really just be driven by love of an IP or studio.

Avowed, Obsidian have been making great games for some time now, the last great thing Bethesda made was Skyrim nine years ago and they've been riding on that success ever since.

Neither??

One is proably gonna be another glorified early access with shitty combat, shitty story, ancient engine and a crapload of bugs and glitch that it's gonna score 90+ from supposed journalists.

And the other is basically vaporware for now.

Avowed.

Elder Scrolls 6 will be the usual tragic mess playable 2 years later 'cause the amount of bugs they will probably never fix.

Well. Considering TES VI is confirmed to be using THE SAME DAMM ENGINE and is made by Bethesda who seem outright incompetent right now I'm going to go for Avowed.

Obsidian is just better at making rpgs and telling a good story.

Also. Idk how to vote xD

I could have said the same, but after my disapointment with The Outer Worlds... I dunno.

Oh, and you cant vote as long as you are labelled as "neo member". And welcome btw! :)

Well I am cautiously optimistic about Avowed, but we only have a CGI trailer.
And also I really doubt they can fail with Elders Scrolls, but still it's bethesda...

Elder Scrolls for me, simply because I am so invested in the world and I enjoy the lore and aesthetics. I'm not expecting VI to have good gameplay, but just seeing the world (Hammerfell) realized and explore it is enough for me to buy it.
Though I am a bit skeptical about the music since Soule is not going to make it, but that's my main gripe.

I've never played Pillars of Eternity, but I'm not a huge fan of the artstyle. I wouldn't be surprised if Avowed ends up having better gameplay, though.

Elder Scrolls.....Should look and play bonkers.....The quality of the Elder Scrolls games from Bethseda is a known quantity, lets hope they are using a new engine and have repurposed the technology surrounding all their games for the new gen....

Both!

Ultimately I suspect The Elder Scrolls VI will have a bigger budget, bigger team, and bigger mod community, but both games are very much in my wheelhouse.

Personally waiting for Elder Scroll's 76 with a subscription fee that will allow me to save more often and sharpen my swords.

Hard to be excited about a short teaser which is released only to confirm that a game has entered prodcution.

undoubtably Avowed for me for the sole reason that its made by Obsidian and ES is made by Bethesda.

Obsidian is just a better developer and has already proven they can do Bethesda games better than Bethesda.

Also, Pillars of Eternity....Obsidian has proven themselves, as far as im concerned, to be more capable than Bethesda in not only the mechanics of game making but as well as with content

Without knowing anything real about either yet, the edge probably goes to Elder Scrolls. Bethesda may rely on the ratty, old, broken engine way too heavily, but at least the games have substance. Outer Worlds made me rethink the idea that Obsidian can do it better.

Waaaaaaay too early for that poll for two reasons alone:

- We don't know if Bethesda has stepped up their game since the 76 failure.

- We don't know what to expect from Obsidian's take. Outer Worlds isn't an argument since, while it employed a similiar style on production values, its AA at best and the budget was not really remotely comparable to any Bethesda-like game.

So, until we see gameplay, who knows. The most interesting one is definitly going to be Avowed though on the pure fact that its the first Obsidian game with a big budget and lowered time constraints.

You can put your faith wherever you want and both Bethesda and Obsidian have a past you can project but not knowing anything about both games makes the answer to your question impossible.

What do Bethesda games have that Outer worlds don't?

Elder scrolls as long as its not skyrim in a new skin. Alot of games have released since skyrim and pushed the standards of an open world game higher.

Hype isn't created by logic, it's by the sparking of the imagination. It's why Fallout 4 attracted so much hype years before it was even a thing. You can set expectations without having the developer provide any. What excites you more, the vague premise of a Bethesda-developed RPG with more TES lore, or an Obsidian-developed RPG with more Pillars lore? :lollipop_smiling_face_eyes:

Outer Worlds compared to Fallout 4 is like a college student film group thinking the movie they made for their group project should be shown in theaters because it's so good.

It's so amateur and is barely a shell of what Fallout 4 was despite coming out years later and flat out failing to copy it anyway.

Have problems to get excited for either. Avowed because Obisidian literally just started working on it and TES... Man, I love the franchise but Bethesda has become such a joke. I can't believe this game is not only not out yet but we haven't even seen anything from Starfield so far - and that is supposed to be released before TES6!!! So yeah.... You may as well ask if I'm excited from Diablo 5.

Go Go Neo Rangers!
ANything Bethesda Game Studios has done this gen has not captured me at all. ESO got there eventually but being an early adopter there was nothing to do. Fallout 4 was a very samey game to the point I fell off real hard after only a 10 or so hours and Fallout 76 was a train wreck.

Obsidian on the other hand got me with South Park Stick of Truth. Really enjoyed that game. Pillars of Eternity was fantastic. Outer Worlds was most definitely a Fallout game but I finished it. Didn't love it but it kept my interest. Played Grounded, at least what it has to offer right now and its definitely neat.

So yeah. I think Avowed is the easy winner for me.

Neither. Bethesda is a great publisher but laughable dev-house. I love some of Obsidian's games but they aren't rockstars. Everyone loved Tyranny and Alpha Protocol, right? Right?!? My point is that they have misses, and The Outer Worlds was a big miss for me. It could've been the first-person RPG of the generation for me but it was paper-thin.

I don't dislike Elder Scrolls, but having another company with a decent trackrecord copying their concept and perhaps improving upon it? That actually makes me more excited.
If Avowed (change the name plz) is developed with modding in mind, it'll cut a piece out of Bethseda's pie.
