Now I'm having an issue with Carrion. Everything was working fine before the update. Now, I can't play it because I can't completely install it, it gives an error at 100%. (0x8007001f)
From what I can tell from a google search, it's because I'm lacking the latest Windows update (2004) and it's not currently available for me. Does anyone knows if there's a way around this?

Unfortunately I had to wait a lot until I got the 2004 update

I can hit you up with a link that allows you to download it if you want

Nah, all good, I can wait (although, I think I was close to finish it). I just wanted a confirmation if the lack of Windows update was the culprit. And considering how iffy things are with the app, it's probably that. I'll wait until eventually it's available for my hardware.

yeah sadly the game is hard coded to run at 60fps and needs 60hz to run at the correct speed... that's a but of a hassle on PC... but it looks fantastic at 4K with AA. the One X version runs also at 4K but has no AA which is kinda sad but it's not really a big deal with the presentation of this game.

I hope they fix the PC version to support all refresh rates tho. even tho it's not that much work to just quickly set your refresh to 60 and back again after you finished playing... takes like 5 seconds, still a weird thing and obvious remnant of its Switch exclusive development I bet.
the game has full cross compatibility so at least it is easy to jump from Xbox on the TV to the PC and play where ever you want... a feature the Yakuza games sadly don't support for some fucking reason 🤷‍♂️

The Touryst is great all in all, have played the first 2 islands and love the simple design

edit: just thought about something m... what happens if you set your Xbox One X/S to 120hz? will it then also run too fast? since it can't just have a 60fps lock on PC without locking the output refresh to 60hz, what will ot do when the Xbox's refresh is set to 120hz?

Blah. Exact same here. O well, it seems to be worth the buy.

DMC5 - Will play.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance - Will skip, already own on PC.
Yoku's Island Express - Will skip, already own on both platforms.
Where the Water Tastes Like Wine (PC) - Looks great, wow, will play.
Space Hulk: Tactics (PC) - Will skip, already own on both platforms.

DMC5 and WtWTLW for me then. The latter looks fantastic - How Long to Beat says 17 hours. Doable then.

Finished Carrion. A pretty cool game that is short enough not to overstay its welcome.

Also finished: Touryst. More should be said about how great it looks for a low budget indie. Tiltshift effect and pretty neat lighting. In the credits it is mentioned that the guys made their own engine and that's probably the reason the tech itself looks unlike any other game (art is obviously influenced by Minecraft). The game is fun too - a mixture of platformer, puzzle game and some light rpg elements. Did you guys beat all the high scores in the arcade mini games?

Is it really that good? I always ignored it for some reason

Its legit my favorite game I have discovered on GP. Its not going to melt your mind or anything with its game play but the music and presentation combined with the game is just bliss for me.

Its a metroidvania Pinball game which I feel like just shouldn't work but it does.

It is so good if you are into Metroidvanias. One of the best tbh.
This is massive! I’m deeply into Metroidvanias! Thank you I’ll give it a go

If you are into Metroid-Vania it could blow your mind then. I am still shocked how well it works.

It's been a while since I have played it, but my only criticism was that near the end the travelling to certain, more hidden areas was a bit of a hassle. But other than that, thumbs up.

100 percenting it was a bit tedious because sometimes the paths felt a bit difficult to navigate to due to the pinball nature but like you said, its a small issue in what is a stellar game overall.

Phoenix Point
Gears of War Tactics

If I only have time to invest in one of these, which one should I pick? (preferably, beginner friendly)

Gears Tactics hands down. It is shorter and more polished. I played Phoenix Point and it has all the markings of a great tactical rpg but it was such a buggy mess at launch. I know the game has seen a few significant patches and should be better by now but Gears is the safer bet. It also has better production quality vs any other game in its genre that I can think of.

I just wish they would bring some of these bigger games that they release for the console pass to the PC one. Like DMC 5 is not there and would be very nice. Granted I am still happy with the content that has been provided. So much value and so many games I otherwise would not have played.

No problem! I absolutely love the game pass and have been using it for a year now I think. It is truly the closest thing to netflix for gaming. I have played a ton of games on there. Age of Wonders Planetfall is also a nice one to check out if you eventually get time but Phoenix Point and Gears Tactics easily have priority.

Ill second Gears Tactics over Phoenix Point. Gears is a bit uneven at times in terms of what you want from that type of game IMO, but i didnt like Phoenix Point at all.

Next batch of Gamepass games coming.

Coming Soon

Darksiders: Genesis (Console) – August 6
An action/adventure game that tears its way through hordes of demons, angels, and everything in-between on its way to Hell and back with guns blazing and swords swinging. Genesis gives players their first look at the world of Darksiders before the events of the original game. Furthermore, it introduces the fourth and last horseman Strife, as well as co-op gameplay for the first time in the franchise.

It Lurks Below (Console & PC) ID@Xbox – August 6
The world is being slowly corrupted, and you have awoken from a terrible dream. Create a customized character and choose from several different classes to delve deep into the mysteries of what evil lurks below. Dig down and explore the randomly generated levels, find random items, and combat deadly monsters to get the answers in this retro-styled, 2D, action-oriented, survival RPG by David Brevik.

The Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan (Console) – August 6
Five friends set sail on a holiday diving trip and as the day unfolds, a storm rolls in and their trip soon changes into something much more sinister. Who will live? Who will die? It’s up to you and the choices you make. You can also share your terrifying story with a friend online or go for safety in numbers with the up-to-five-players offline “movie night” mode.

Trailmakers (Console & PC) ID@Xbox – August 6
Build an amazing vehicle out of blocks and explore an alien planet in Trailmakers. This physics-based action game lets you build anything from hypercars and helicopters to hovercrafts and hydrofoils. Play solo or with friends in huge sandbox maps or perfect your race car to perfection in the Trailmakers Rally.

UnderMine (Console & PC) ID@Xbox – August 6
Delve deep into the UnderMine and discover its secrets, one peasant at a time! UnderMine is an action-adventure roguelike that blends combat and dungeon crawling with RPG-like progression. Mine gold, die, upgrade yourself, and try again! Challenge dangerous bosses and rescue helpful characters that supply new upgrades for your adventure. Decipher the cryptic messages of the UnderMine’s residents and unfold the mystery at the heart of the dungeon.

Xeno Crisis (Console & PC) ID@Xbox – August 6
Run and gun your way through seven distinct areas and master an arsenal of ten different weapons as you take on thousands of varied adversaries in this top-down arena shooter for one or two players. It will require guile, composure, and good judgement to have a chance of reaching the final showdown. Xeno Crisis is a genuine 16-bit throwback for those who enjoy a challenge, with superb pixel art and a blistering soundtrack.

Final Fantasy VII HD (Console & PC) – August 13
Relive the RPG that redefined gaming. The world has fallen under the dominion of the Shinra Electric Power Company, a sinister corporation that has monopolized the planet’s very life force as Mako energy. Cloud Strife, a former member of Shinra’s elite Soldier unit, now turned mercenary, lends his aid to the rebels, unaware that he will be drawn into an epic battle for the fate of the planet, while having to come to terms with his own lost past.

Has anyone here tried "The Dark Pictures: Man of Medan"? It's from the same developer of Until Dawn and I really liked that game. The game just dropped on Game Pass, it sounds intriguing.

I am so disappointed that Man of Medan is not coming to PC... CMON MAN. Darksiders Genesis is another burn too. The games coming to PC are definitely disappointing. Literally the only 2 games on this entire list I want to play are not coming to my game pass. Sigh

So, I tried out a few games from the latest batch.

Darksiders: Genesis. I really like what they do with the franchise. Each installment borrows from different games. This time it is Diablo. For the most part, it is quite polished, there are a lot of things to do and rpg elements are done well. If you are on Xbox One X, I recommend turning off motion blur - otherwise the games looks way too blurry in motion. Will finish it for sure.

Man of Medan. One of those games where you can experience Playstation style narrative experience on Xbox. Graphics are pretty good (you could totally make a few screenshots for the Photorealistic screenshots thread), but, jeez, the game bored me to tears. It's like watching a bad movie and occasionally control your characters with clunky controls and terrible camera placement.

It Lurks Below. Terraria-clone. Actually pretty good. Intuitive, simple, but plays well.

Undermine. One more Rogue-like, not as good as Moonlighter, but better than Below.

I've been playing Touryst. It's really solid for an indie. I do realize the pedigree of the developer, but it's my first Shin'en game in some time.
Definitely recommend.

Trail makers : only tried the single player portion, I loved Banjo Nuts and Bolts so was hoping Trailmakers fit that void but sadly came away disappointed. Game world feels so empty and lifeless, vehicle creation unintuitive. The single player portion needed more effort to make it feel more cohesive, some sense of progression. I had this on my steam wish list but now removed. Maybe the multiplayer part is better but I don't expect to try it to find out

Man of Medan : I don't normally like these types of games and I can see how many people would find the 'social game' off-putting. I thus far am enjoying it, the graphics are really well done, some legit jump scares in there, story thus far has been reasonably good. Definitely not your typical Xbox game so happy to see something different

Undermine. : cool take on roguelite, nice implementation of character progression, like how bosses are part of the story and not repeated after you have killed them. Felt a fair bit like Binding of Issac, maybe not as good but decent sense of progression. Worth a shot if you want a decent time killer. Will echo @Rubberwald comment about not as good as Moonlighter but has a bunch of different ideas (using single use gems to upgrade your run) which is worth seeing if you like roguelites

Finished the Touryst; pretty easy 1000 cheevos. I would never have paid money for this game but it’s a cute little title that looks amazing on the One X through my OLED TV.

Im probably going to try Cross Code next.

I just played through the game in the last few days, didn't even know it was leaving the service, I thought it was a recent addition. Very good game, a bit on the easy side but it's a nice change from the usual metroidvania.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
