Yakuza: Like a Dragon Gets November Western Release Window | PS5 Version & More Announced

Ah yes good old Phil Spencer who is against timed exclusives locking up a PlayStation franchise to be timed exclusive to Series X. Like I've always said Phil is full of crap...

I don't know if timed-exclusive is what's happening here? (I mean, maybe, given that it's a big deal that Yakuza is finally fully established Xbox platforms and the two sides wanted to make a big celebratory deal about that or something?) It seems like it's more around the Smart Delivery program? Like maybe that makes it so they don't have to ship a second box, or that they had to prioritize it since they had to have those answers right away about having those hooks in, or they were looking at the $60/70 price analysis and committed to Xbox early since MS was already outlining its program and thus dictating price parity? It feels like there could be circumstances around logistics that led them to some choices which for now don't favor PS5 despite PlayStation (and Japan, where Xbox has never had a foothold and Series X has not made any significant promises there AFAIK) being Yakuza/Ryu ga Gotoku's home territory.

I don't think we should be calling people questioning the release schedule crazy conspiracy theorists. The game already came out in December of last year. The studio had a whole year to prepare so that it would release along with the PS5. If it won't then the only logical explanation will be that Microsoft paid them for the exclusivity. Not to mention that the series is by far the most popular among Sony fans and it would be a logical move to make them happy first (if money wasn't involved in that decision).

 wow... thanks Phil for reminding us how much you actually believed in timed exclusives being anti-consumer.
Gotcha Phil! Wait this game comes out day one on PS4? So the time in this case is zero. How long did Xbox gamers wait for that Destiny 1 and 2 content? Hmmm maybe this is much ado about nothing...

Then why would it still be releasing on PS4? Why would Microsoft sign that deal when they are clearly pushing and have publicly stated that they aren't focused on just selling Series X boxes this year due to the economy/covid and then sign a deal for it to not come out on one platform from the competition but is ok with it coming out on the best selling console this generation?

I find it pretty sad and crazy that a series that started on PlayStation consoles, Sony themselves helping bringing the series to the U.S. to try and make it successful, the audience being with PlayStation, that Sega decided to give MS the marketing and not even have a PS5 version at launch.

Way to screw over your main audience and the company that help build the franchise.

So for next gen Launch period, for me, so far
Halo infinite
Assassin’s creed Valhalla
Cyberpunk 2077
Spiderman
Yakuza 7
Certainly a forza..
And more games TBA...

Good bye wallet, life and time....

I really hope the rumour of series X being released early are true.

Except a lot of people going and buying their PS5 will be looking at the PS5 games to buy, not the PS4 games. Even though you can play the PS4 version on there it still is kind of a big deal.

Because being able to say that you are the only platform where you can play the next gen version at this holiday is a big deal. How do you not get that? People aren't going out and looking at what last gen games to buy on their new gen console.

I'm just glad you won't have wait like so many Xbox gamers will have to for all those PS5 timed exclusives. Sony got a much better deal.

I mean you have to wait if you want to play the better version. I'm personally going to wait b/c why play through it on PS4 when the PS5 version will be better? I don't have time to be playing it twice.

I’m wondering if Sega knows the launch date of the series X but not the PS5(Sony might still be unsure when to launch their own console or it’s keeping third party developers on the dark about it)

The PS5 version will probably launch with the PS5.

I obtained and used most everything. It still becomes very repetitive and uses a ton of recycled moves, skills and animations from previous Yakuza games.

It didn't help that it was really easy even with the hundred colour health bars the bosses have.
Yakuza 1 and 2 had the difficulty spot on and had they kept it like that it would've gone well with all the additions to the combat since but from Yakuza Kenzan onward they made it too easy. I don't know if hard mode gets it right or just makes it frustrating with too much enemy health.

I might skip this one. Has nothing to do with the battle system, but it seems like they are getting greedy.

Correct me if I'm wrong but do you still have to pay for new game +?

They were usually good about minimal add-ons that you pay for.

What's with all these different versions??

First one I'm not pre-ordering....first one I might not buy. (full price)

Oh look the Phil Spencer defense squad. It's crystal clear that Phil Spencer made a deal with Sega so that they would be the only one with a next gen version of this at launch. Smart Delivery has nothing to do with it launching later on PS5. This is exactly why the next gen version of Cyberpunk isn't launching until 2021 on BOTH platforms. They could've had Yakuza out on PS5 this year too but Microsoft clearly made a deal. Don't try to dismiss that.

Crystal clear? To who, massive Sony fanboys like you who got permanately banned from ResetEra for over 10 console warrior warnings/bans? Why do you think your opinion here holds even the slightest bit of credence? You're crying conspiracy theories that make no sense, in the face of actual facts. Don't try to dismiss that.

But it's much more believable to you that Sega all the sudden just decided that the fans that are responsible for Yakuza even still being around aren't important and instead they'd focus on a platform that until this year never even had a Yakuza game? Riiiiiiight they totally weren't given a check by Phil for that. Pretty much exactly what I expect out of someone who's probably an Xbox fanboy.

Spidermanpointing.jpg

Imagine you calling him a fanboy, lmao. Pot kettle black etc.

You'll last long here.

He usually doesnt last long wherever he posts lol

You have a choice. Many Xbox only gamers don't have a choice at all so it looks like you are winning. Accept the W. I'll bet there won't be a significant difference anyway since it won't be designed from the bottom up for the PS5's unique architecture.

If that was the case I think they would still say Holiday rather than coming later to PS5. I'm pretty sure they know like the rest of us that it's coming in November.

The only people dismissing the fact that they likely paid for it are Microsoft shills like you. I'm not a fanboy of anyone troll and that isn't why I was banned from there LMAO. One look at your post history shows that you have no place at calling anyone that. Also no one lasts long on Era unless you share their exact mindset over there which I'm not about. That isn't what this thread is about so let's not be going off topic here.

I just think it's hypocritical of Phil Spencer to talk about timed exclusives being anti-consumer and then going out and doing it. Anyone with a bit of sense knows that Sega didn't decide to market this Yakuza game with Microsoft and release only the Series X version this holiday without being paid for it. When Sony or Microsoft market a third party game that does involve money exchanging hands or did you not know that? You don't just leave out the fanbase that has supported you for over a decade like that without some kind of deal being in place. You can try to downplay it all you want but it doesn't make it any less true.

Part of me wants to hold out for the PS5 version and wait... But I know I will buy it on PS4 as soon as it's available and then get the PS5 version anyway.

Glad they provided more of a release window now. Dub sounds great, like in Judgment. However, I've played all of the games other than the U.S. PS2 original with the Japanese voices and I will continue to stick with that for the series. Too ingrained in me with the characters. It is good that Sega will reach more people with an English dub, for sure.

In a year with so many great games, this will likely be my GotY. It looks so good. Can't wait.

Heh, you do realize that you condemned the idea of conspiracy theories, then turned right around and made a conspiracy theory of your own?

There's no specific word that there's a formal exclusivity contract (and especially no proof of money being involved; it could just be that Japan already has had this for a year and so SEGA prioritized getting the Xbox product line situated, especially since it has been a new market for them.) Everything about next-gen is in flux (compounded by this damned disease,) and none of us have answers to exactly what's going on behind the scenes. It's a fair estimation to say that SEGA and MS are in partnership to make Yakuza LAD splash big on Series X (but then again, it's the most controversial game in the franchise due to its weird -but-cool mechanics, it's not an international blockbuster in the same league as other major franchises MS could have "paid for", and the PlayStation fanbase still knows they'll be getting theirs since it'd be insane for Yakuza to go exclusive to Xbox, so I don't know how it'd be worth making some big deal for some short-term Series X non-Japan times exclusive deal?), but there could be plenty of other valid reasons why things are happening how they are with Like a Dragon.

It could be that, since the PS4 version is already a year old, they're readying a "Plus" version for Japan for the PS5 with new stuff, not just an up-port (with maybe DLC for other platforms or something planned, I'm just conspiracy-theorizing here,) and so it's on a different timeline worldwide.

I am SO happy that this is getting an English dub after the success of Judgment. Judgment was the last game I even cared about completing and I put over 40 hours into it. I loved that game so freaking much. I will be picking up Yakuza: Like A Dragon on PS5 day one for sure now. Consider me sold.

Most shun dubs, but it’s my preferred method of consumption in anime and games. This is right up there with Cyberpunk 2077 as my most anticipated game coming out in the near future. Let’s do this!

It's hilarious when the usual suspects start fuming and blowing hot air everywhere with conspiracy theories because they can't understand refuse to understand that Xbox has something called Smart Delivery, which is not the same thing as the free upgrades some companies are offering for PS5.

Never mind that other games like Crash 4 are doing the same thing (showing XSX versions but no PS5 version because there is one sku for Xbox One AND Series X), nope, let's ignore that. Instead, Phil Spencer personally drove a Brinks truck to Sega for a timed exclusive that is still releasing day one on the competitors platform, and possibly BC on PS5 barring PS5s BC limitations, because reasons. Yep, this makes so much more sense, because SmArT DeLiVeRy iS jUsT a FaNcY nAmE hurrrdurrr 🤪🤪🤪
Explain smart delivery. This will be an eye opener.

I just don't buy any reasoning for giving special treatment to Xbox folks just because it's a new market for SEGA. There's more to lose here imo if they piss off PlayStation fans from western regions than to gain by catering to the Xbox community. So unless money is involved to make that happen it would be a series of poor decisions.

Also, both Sony and MS have made questionable timed exclusivity decisions. It doesn't have to mean that Y7 next-gen exclusivity isn't happening just because it's a niche release with controversial changes to the core of the gameplay.

Not one Yakuza thread exploded before but we all know why this one did...🤷🏻‍♂️
Because Yakuza is a franchise that has mainly been on PlayStation and those fans can't play the best version on the console they would prefer to this holiday? Idk seems pretty reasonable to me.

The fact that there are STILL idiots trying to act like Smart Delivery is something that hasn't been done before is amazing. It is the same thing as Cross-Buy this has been gone over again and again. You buy it on one system and when you load up the other one it's already there tied to your account.

It's nothing but a marketing term used by Microsoft to try and make it out like they have something that PlayStation doesn't when in reality Sony started it almost a decade ago with PS3 and Vita and then did the same with PS4.

Well its a timed exclusive as it appears. Sony had their fair share too. Nobody made a fuss about this disgusting practise when Sony did it

There is always a crowd that makes a fuss when whoever does it. Besides what Xbox franchise did Sony take and make a timed exclusive? Yes Deathloop and Ghostwire are timed exclusive but those aren't prior IP's that were associated with Xbox. Sony also doesn't go around saying that they think timed exclusives are anti-consumer and then turn around and sign them. That's my main issue here with Phil Spencer.

I am talking about timed-exclusives in general. Its a disgusting practise don’t try to turn it around to make Sony look good. You either talk about the point in general without making one look better or don’t at all. Everyone deserves to play a multi-platform game on their preferred platform with no fuckery.

One thing I dont understand is if the PS5 is going to play PS4 discs then why is a PS5 version even happening? And why would people need a second version?

I'll talk about the practice in the manner that I want to. I personally have nothing against it as I get you have to make business moves to help sell your product. Does it suck for gamers on the other platform? Yes it does but that's business. What I have a problem with is when the head of one of those companies makes statements saying he is against it and it's anti-consumer and then goes and does it anyway. If you're going to do it don't say those things. You don't see Sony saying them or I'd be saying the same thing about them.

Because it will look and run better? Why is Cyberpunk 2077 getting a PS4 and PS5 version? Or Watch Dogs? Or Assassin's Creed?

Sure, there's lots of "what the heck?" questions to deal with here that are worth discussion (including why it's taken so long to mention PS5 when they did a re-announcement a few weeks after the Xbox show where it debuted, without a pS5 confirmation,) I'm just saying, no reason to close off the discussion or start a fight by saying only one answer is the right answer when we don't know the answer/s.

Also shouldn't the game natively run better on the ps5 even if it's the ps4 version? Like the pro patches for games ?
I mean I would think you could say that about any of these third party games really. Why put out a next gen version if you could just patch the last gen version to look better when it's played on the next gen console.

If that was the case I think they would still say Holiday rather than coming later to PS5. I'm pretty sure they know like the rest of us that it's coming in November.

We will see when the consoles release abd it’s not like you’ll be locked out of the game completely, since PS5 will be backwards compatible with PS4 games for the most part. I’d say the same if roles were switched as well.

Oh and also.

You're full of shit Phil.
This man backpedals so much on his stances which why I cant believe his bullshit, another example

"we do not need to compete with sony, we are going after google and amazon"

yet is playing chicken with revealing the price before the ps5 and made a stronger box to compete with playstation. Dude likes the smell of his own shit.

Ah classic Microsoft generation starter move. Take a franchise/studio traditionally associated with Playstation and buy the launch exclusivity for their new console. Tri-Ace/Namco for 360, Tomb Raider/Insomniac for XB1. This time it's Yakuza.

All is fair though, PS buys exclusivity as well, but MS just follows an obvious pattern.

If you don’t mind me asking, where did you play the demo and I’m guessing there isn’t an English version of it out?
There was a demo before the game got released in Japan on the Japanese store. Not sure if its still available. Correct, not English version yet. But since the game is coming out on November then I assume we’ll see one around maybe August or September.
