Today Sega finally announced the western release window and more details of the latest mainline Yakuza game, Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

The game will launch for PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam in November.

The Xbox Series X version will be a launch game when the console releases, while a PS5 release is also coming at a later date.

The Xbox Series X version will be available via Smart Delivery while an upgrade for PS5 is also planned, with details coming at a later date.

With the announcement, we also get a trailer showcasing the English voice over.

Ah yes good old Phil Spencer who is against timed exclusives locking up a PlayStation franchise to be timed exclusive to Series X. Like I've always said Phil is full of crap. They just had little option to get timed exclusives this generation b/c publishers weren't going to ignore just how huge the lead was between PS4 and Xbox One. Now that it's a new gen he's right back to it.

...Its coming out on PS4 and PC.

Hopefully the ambiguity will be cleared, surrounding the PS5 release and upgrade options, prior to the November launch for the current-gen systems (though I won't be surprised if this is not the case).

Beyond that, with the additional announcement of an English dub, I hope they'll confirm the in-game text will be handled similar to Judgement, with differing localizations depending on whether Japanese or English audio is chosen. If by chance only dubtitles are offered, I'll be passing on the game.

For the PS5 version, they posted an image saying TBA for both PS5 and Series X versions.
For the audio/dubs, already confirmed it's like they did in Judgment but also dual lip sync

So now we have conspiracy theories about timed exclusives thats coming to sony platforms, but only one Sony platform, which must mean Microsoft paid for exclusive rights. it just couldn't be that its not ready.

Get a grip people.
I wish when Sony got timed 3rd party exclusive titles Xbox would get a version too at the same time. I bet that's Phil's fault that doesn't happen!! Grrrrr!

The Series X version is already announced as a launch game for the system. Currently, the only question marks surround the PS5 date and upgrade options.

Thanks, that's good to know. They should have included the information in the press release or at least on the main SEGA or RGG Studio tweets.

They really should use their official channels, but I guess the localization team leader is as good as them, wouldn't you agree?

Gotta say I'm not a fan of that chart, reminds me of a typical Ubisoft game. Not to mention those picking up the retail version will miss out on various sets and pre-order content.

November release is also not going to do it any favors, I'll still get it, but it'll be difficult to convince many people to spend money on this game instead of Cyberpunk or Valhalla.

It seems crazy to be holding onto this until November...It's not a game that needs competition, it needs a nice open birth to help with sales. Yakuza 0 came out at the perfect time, wasn't a whole lot of competition, but this is coming out when new console releases, AND when other heavy hitters will probably launch.

Should have aimed for current gen version in September or October at the latest, with day 1 launch on next gen consoles and free upgrade.

Microsoft hasn't announced a release date for the Series X, and they're certainly not going to let SEGA quasi break that news by offering a release month for their game. That said, even beyond today's news, SEGA previously announced in May the game would be available at launch for Series X.

For reference, here's Microsoft's own news of it being a Series X launch title: Link. Also confirming the game's Series X launch availability, here's a text copy of today's press release via Gamasutra: Link.

They really should use their official channels, but I guess the localization team leader is as good as them, wouldn't you agree?
I'd generally disagree, which isn't to question the validity of the source. People are going to look towards news sites and then official social media channels. Unless a person is aware of a certain developer, the news would fly under the radar.

I have this game in Japanese for the PS4.
What a disappointment that they left the formidable base of Judgment to create an average turn-based JRPG.
Fortunately, this new style will not last long.
Personally I'm eager to play it and see it for myself if I'll like it, but I still think they should've done the opposite and experiment with a spin-off title like Judgment, not a mainline entry.

Judgment's combat was fun initially but by about 10 hours in it got super repetitive and felt like just another Yakuza game. Not to mention the 30FPS framerate and sluggish response to input. Also the Keihin gang thing just made fighting annoying.

We've had how many Yakuza games now with the same core battle system? It needed a change up big time.

Thankfully, Judgment, one of my favorite games of the generation, didn't follow that path.

Judgment is hardly repetitive if you use everything it has to offer. I was satisfied with the variety of skills available. Some are difficult to obtain but are worth it.
I obtained and used most everything. It still becomes very repetitive and uses a ton of recycled moves, skills and animations from previous Yakuza games.

It didn't help that it was really easy even with the hundred colour health bars the bosses have.

Can't wait to finally get my hands on this.

Oh and also.

You're full of shit Phil.

All praise good guy Phil 🥴

It's hilarious when the usual suspects start fuming and blowing hot air everywhere with conspiracy theories because they can't understand refuse to understand that Xbox has something called Smart Delivery, which is not the same thing as the free upgrades some companies are offering for PS5.

Never mind that other games like Crash 4 are doing the same thing (showing XSX versions but no PS5 version because there is one sku for Xbox One AND Series X), nope, let's ignore that. Instead, Phil Spencer personally drove a Brinks truck to Sega for a timed exclusive that is still releasing day one on the competitors platform, and possibly BC on PS5 barring PS5s BC limitations, because reasons. Yep, this makes so much more sense, because SmArT DeLiVeRy iS jUsT a FaNcY nAmE hurrrdurrr 🤪🤪🤪

Oh look the Phil Spencer defense squad. It's crystal clear that Phil Spencer made a deal with Sega so that they would be the only one with a next gen version of this at launch. Smart Delivery has nothing to do with it launching later on PS5. This is exactly why the next gen version of Cyberpunk isn't launching until 2021 on BOTH platforms. They could've had Yakuza out on PS5 this year too but Microsoft clearly made a deal. Don't try to dismiss that.

Do PS4 games run on PS5? Is this game launching on the PS4 too? Is there really anything to be complaining about here?
Yes this will play on PS5 through BC. BUT you won't get the improvements that the next gen version will have. You'll have to wait on that. So yes it is a bit shitty that PlayStation fans will have to wait longer to play the best version when they have supported this series for years and years now.

I hope you are equally bothered when PS4 or PS5 gets a game and Xbox only owners have to wait for that exclusivity period to end. The only difference is that PS4 and PS5 owners can play THIS game DAY ONE. It could be MUCH worse guys. There really isn't an issue here.

Yeah it's a real conspiracy theory when a company's game whose success has been driven by PlayStation all the sudden holds off releasing on PS5 and instead markets their game with Xbox. You're ignorant if you think Microsoft didn't pay for this. It's a way to try and get Japan gamers to pick up a Series X this Holiday over a PS5.

So Microsoft paid for exclusivity for a country they have never cracked in any capacity but went out of their way to try and get one game that will be available on PS4 which is the dominant device in Japan?

Pretty huge slap in the face to PS fans who've kept this franchise alive over the years.

Not too bothered though seeing as it's turn based. I'll wait for Judgement 2 or a real Yakuza sequel.

I don't even so much have an issue with timed exclusives. They are a part of business. My issue is more with people like Phil Spencer who talk crap about others for doing it, say he doesn't believe in it, and then when a new generation starts he goes right back to doing it. Like don't be hypocrite and just keep your mouth shut instead.

But it's much more believable to you that Sega all the sudden just decided that the fans that are responsible for Yakuza even still being around aren't important and instead they'd focus on a platform that until this year never even had a Yakuza game? Riiiiiiight they totally weren't given a check by Phil for that. Pretty much exactly what I expect out of someone who's probably an Xbox fanboy.
