Microsoft is courting the opinion of Resetera to ban people in real life.

I mean what are the changes Major Nelson said that to simply appease them and then not do anything about it? Is he known to cancel folks at MS simply because REEEEEEera or twatter demanded him do so?

They're still angry that Neogaf is relevant enough to have its own wiki page but Reset doesn't. :messenger_winking:

I notice if you google search reeeeeeee! It brings up Neogaf 🤡 :messenger_ok:

Is Stinkles going to get perma bannned too?

If they screech loud enough he would but I doubt it because he's "one of their own".

God forbid the day when someone digs up some dirt on Phil Spencer and Major Nelson, then they will have to cancel themselves.

The slippery slope has begun and there's no turning back for them now.

I don't actually have a problem with them removing people from their organisation (or ending associations with) people who they might deem to not align with their culture and/or values. The same goes for any business/organisation and that sort of thing has been happening since the beginning of time.

However directly responding to these cucks who took it upon themselves to dig up dirt on someone from 2017? That's not the way to go and it only positively reinforces their investigative doxxing tenancies.

If you are going to acknowledge them like this just remember, it's all good and well until they eventually come for you. You'd better be locking up those skeletons and throwing away all the keys.

I doubt that there is any "dirt" on those people (even though you never know). Even if there was, they would still cover up certain untouchable people.

Everyone has dirt if you dig deep enough.

Even the people on that forum who hide behind the pretence that they are perfect human beings who have never done or said anything wrong in their lives. Some of them have more dirt than your average person, this act is them repenting for their sins.

Not sure why everyone is having a go at Major Nelson or Microsoft for simply replying / forwarding the info to someone else who can look into it and determine if any action needs to be taken. If they find nothing then nothing will happen and if they find something the person has said could negatively affect the Xbox brand then why wouldn't they do something about it?

This just seems like another "cAnCeL XBoX!" thread. Seems like Neogaf and Era are two ends of the same stick, just trying to cancel each other out.

Couldn't have said it better myself. There is literally nothing about the title of this topic that correlates to ANYTHING that transpired in that thread. Nothing. Major Nelson simply responded to getting pinged out the ass from people tagging him, and the guy in question was already banned by 343i previously in the first place.

Typical anti-Microsoft fanboy shit trying to spread FUD here, nothing new, except anyone with a brain can see how transparent this is.

Also, ResetEra is still and always will be shit. Stop giving them mindshare.

LOL repenting for their sins... by punishing others? What you are describing is quite sick indeed.

All Major Nelson did was agree to look into it. That's not a confirmation that he was going to try and get rid of anyone. I think the poster on Resetera needs to check himself, but let's not generalize all of Microsoft because one person said, "will do." The most disturbing part to me is that we live in a culture now where people think it's their job to literally stalk other people and dig up whatever evil they can find - and then post it all over the interwebs. That's sick. Everyone has dirt. We need to look for the good in people as much as we possibly can and then encourage that behavior.

Repost because this is the appropriate thread

Told you.

So I take it the larger scale game companies are basically using the other forum as an independent contractor to pre-emptive vet any social justice problems for HR before they get publicized for draw negative attention.

As hateful as that forum is, this is an even worse look for Major Nelson than it is for them.

No, that's not accurate.
Like yesterday, someone referred to me with a crazy anti-Nintendo conspiracy despite posting in the same thread I owned a Nintendo product.

I didn't make this thread with a bias. If you're unaware of the history of Resetera, you should understand that their relation to game developers is toxic.

Keep in mind, this is a multibillion dollar corporation yet a Director of Programming has time to organize a schedule that says "remove this person for disagreeing with another website".

If you ever had any complaints about your console or its related services, now you know where Microsoft's priorities are.

You've got wires crossed. Era came to Nelson on this and basically kept naming him ad infinity until he responded. He didn't take a peep into the thread about any of this until they more or less summoned him. If he hadn't responded there they'd of done so on his Twitter (if they hadn't already).

You're making it sound like he took on the impetus of this of his own discretion. The vibe I got from their response was more of them hoping the situation would blow over. FWIW he also said he'd try talking to the guy causing the issue to calm down with some of his tardcum tantrums on Twitter.

And yes, they were tardcum tantrums. He seems like the kind of guy that'd always tell lefties to stop pushing politics into games yet he's taking it on his own volition to suddenly use his gaming-orientated platform to complain about BLM. And yeah, BLM as an organization is...questionable. I don't think they're genuine, personally (this is separate from some of the issues they tackle which at their root are genuine; BLM doesn't engage with them honestly, however. They're a Marxist group so of course they couldn't). But if I were a popular Halo modder I wouldn't be using an account tied to that scene to complain about social or political issues even if it was to vent.

...also it's kind of funny if you're thinking Sony would not be having this same reaction. Heck, they'd probably take an even more drastic one. PlayStation headquarters is home in California of all places these days.

EDIT: Also yeah don't take this as me going easy on RetardEra. I don't like their guts...well outside of maybe 4-5 posters who focus on VERY specific gaming stuff. But I've been watching that thread for a while and know MajorNelson wasn't in there until they started pestering him to come in and respond.

I just want the record to be straight on that note.

I think you guys are overreacting. He said he'd look into it and that's it. It's a standard response and one that usually ends with a shoulder shrug and no actual looking into.

If they do severe their relationship with the guy, it's not because of a forum post informing Major Nelson about it, it'll be because they deem the visible connection to him a financial liability. I already know how some 343 people feel about Era and it's not positive. This isn't going to tip the scales one way or the other.

Never heard about the unethical religious leaders and preachers of this world?

That's the whole reason why a lot of those people get away with the most abhorrent shit for the longest time. People don't even look into them because of the public image they put forward, the thought is "they would/could never" and as a result they are granted immunity from ever being investigated for anything. Even when faced with evidence a lot of the time their followers will sweep the bad shit they've done under the rug.

It’s true that Larry didn’t promise to cancel the guy or grandstand, more like the minimum acknowledgment of the issue, sensible enough PR in a vacuum.

Not a good idea to appease the mob over there, though. They’ll know they have an avenue to get after what they want through him now, and will blame him if they don’t get their desired attention or cancellation result. Better to ignore the crazies and let them move on to their next target.

Looks like he just gave a generic PR answer. His mistake was doing that much because they will probably keep bothering him now.

Ive downloaded quite a few mods in my gaming life. I don’t recall ever knowing who exactly made them. Should I be running background checks to see if the creator said edgy stuff on Twitter first? Really...who cares.

It's very disappointing to see what Resetera has turned into, yeah -- but the worrying part is that as long as developers keep feeding them and doing shit like this, this whole cancel culture is only going to get worse. I'm sure we haven't seen the worst yet.

Buckle up, lads.
