EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said during EA's earnings briefing that at least some of the company's titles will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X through upgrades that won't cost extra. Jorgensen shared this information in remarks about the revenue that EA is expecting during the fiscal year.

They're not gonna be making 2 versions of the games. No way Jose. Not with much better assets or the type of content that'd be impossible to replicate on PS4 and Xbox3.

There you go.

Xbox Smart Delivery is not an Xbox exclusive feature. Everyone is going to do it. It would be silly not to.
If true then Sony need to shout it from the damn heavens. If they do support it then it makes it stranger still that they haven’t said more regarding PS5 as my understanding was they didn’t want to step on their own toes regarding TLOU2 and GoT. If these two titles had free upgrades for PS5 then why not say so? It could only get them more sales, not less.

Yeah 100%. I didn't think announcing cross-buy for TLoU and GoT would hurt Ps4 sales.

Sony has their own plan and will probably announce a whole bunch of shit at once when they feel like. Not a bad strategy to be honest.

no, it's not. Smart Delivery will give you the true nextgen version, not just an upgrade/patch.
This is what we have now with Xbox one X enhanced titles, Pro boost mode patches etc.

so, I think they will just release those enhanced updates for free, so free boost mode etc, so free upgrades. but you will not get the full nextgen version for free, otherwise they would say xsx/ps5 version and not just "upgrade".

Sony can't shout about it because their whole BC message is messed up. Compared to MS which seems to have Xbox One, One X and Series X all sorted out, Sony's BC message was something like "top 100 at launch + 4000 other games we're still working on".

Sony can't say a game is cross platform PS4/PS5 as a single purchase because who knows how many of those 4000 games will support it.

They haven't even been able to commit or confirm if first party games support it.

How does that make sense to you?
What update would they need to release if pro boost or what you want to call it runs natively?

I always expected, at least for ps5, a patch was enough for games now. Same architecture make it "simpler".
Base game, pro patch, ps5 patch.

Smart delivery is just marketing speak I guarantee this is how it will work if you have the Xbox one version of the game and put put it in the series X you will have to download the whole game the disc will just act like a key like how the 360 games work now

So what? Cool feature nevertheless.

Can't see the difference between Sony's age old cross play function and smart delivery btw. I guess it's just a ordinary feature for Sony, hence no big deal. It's a given.

Maybe it's because it only looks like a big deal as MS is promoting it since they have little else going.
First of all, lmao at “little else going”. If what MS is doing and showing is little then PS is fucking microscopic by comparison right now. Oh wait, I forgot, we don’t care about clear and concise marketing, we care about how many likes the controller gets on insta 😑
They still do. They take pride in being wary of and will analyze anything said by Sony, but eat up Microsoft's marketing like a gospel.

Good luck convincing them otherwise.
Yeah weird, it’s almost like one of these companies is actually showing and announcing things and the other is coasting on current gen momentum and showing fuck all. But nah, let’s all go eat up the dribble coming from the Hellpoint devs shall we?

I don’t see Sony jumping on the free upgrade wagon. If anything they may add these games to psnow with the option to buy.

This is how I expect cross gen games to work. If a developer goes through with making a game that takes into account next Gen architecture, expect to have to pay for it. In this case, I doubt the developer would bother with a current Gen version.

Your post comes off as a little on the bitter side. Try not to get too emotionally invested.

Playstation is a much stronger brand worldwide than Xbox.
But dont worry about those Instagram likes. Everything will be alright ;)

Of course lol. And you have Xbox fans calling Sony fans delusional.

I used to think it was funny but nowadays I feel sorry for those that still think it is.

Because MS said it first, it cant possibly come be a feature of every other platform. No Sir we cant have that.
Blaming people for interpreting the enormous blanks left by Sony’s marketing (or lack thereof) is not fair.
It shouldn’t be EA telling us what the PS5 will do. I wouldn’t draw any conclusions from what EA said either.
Sony could have said at anytime that the games they are promoting right now on PS4 will have free ps5 versions. They didn’t. CDProjekt did only for their Xbox version. Ubisoft did only for the Xbox version of Valhalla.
So yes, people did think and still do think that smart delivery is an exclusive feature. It’s up to Sony to say if it’s not.
Fanboys. Smh.

I hope there will be crossbuy ps4 ps5 possibility. My opinion is that in case of vita and ps4 its different story. Vita was little sister of ps4. Sony tried to make sense to own both. You could remote play. It wouldnt make a sense to buy one thing two times. Ps4 and ps5 is different case. Sony wont try to convince people to buy both ps4 and ps5. So they dont have any big reason to do crossbuy.

On the other hand. If you buy game on ps4 and it will run on ps5 in Bc, it will be strange if there is no extra support or enhancement for ps5.

Same architecture is really not big a of deal in here, since you still have to make it work. You see it through the lens of Direct X, if you remember times before it it, you know, that even on same architecture is not that simple.

I guess they had to follow suit after Ubisoft and CD Projekt red said they would apply start using Microsofts' Smart Delivery

Consoles are becoming more and more like glorified PCs.

I grow slightly tired of silly sarcastic comments like that. PC and console are and will remain different and there is really nothing wrong with PC or console taking the best parts of what the other format got to offer and put into their system functions.

Is a PC any less of a PC because you can use a standard console pad on it?.

Looking over that, having developers give away for free upgrades to their games for any owners of next-gen is a fab feature.
How anyone can look to knock it is beyond me.

I'm sure some games you will actually get just the Series X version as Microsoft said, which, coincidentally, could in some cases actually turn out to be smaller than the Xbox One S/X versions of the game due to the level of compression, the decompression hardware, and the fact that with an SSD there will be less need for as many duplicates, if any.

I actually think they should allow OS install to use it as a pc, because just using it as a multimedia center is a waste.

I Remember also tomb Raider Dragon Age inquisition and AC black flag

And then you'll have compatibility issues? The best think of a PC is you can open it up and add to it, even change the OS system, even when consoles that use PC tech, that's not the case. Still, their size factor is usually smaller ( I can put my console in my sports bag, to take to the Caravan, not quite as easy with the Desktop) and you can buy a game at the end of the console life or on the launch of a console and they will all work. Not always the case for the PC.

So I rather the easy of use and the simple form factor of the consoles myself. I think both platforms have their good and bad points

Well yeah, that's the beauty of it. This technology empowers you to buy a game once and know that – whether you are playing it on Xbox One or Xbox Series X – you are getting the right version of that game on whatever Xbox you’re playing on.

...But but Smart Delivery
Cross buy isn't the same as smart delivery, it has some extra features. Like the people of the article say, it's an evolution of it.

The biggest difference easily overlooked is the cross-buy entitled customers to multiple versions of the same game on multiple platforms. With Smart Delivery, customers will play the only version of the game across multiple SKUs that will smartly scale accordingly. This also guarantees cross-saves and DLC support, something cross-buy lacked since the games were technically different from one another. If you have a Series X in your living room and a Xbox One upstairs, you can play the 4K version of your game downstairs during the day, then retire to play the Xbox One version upstairs, all with the same save etc.

For instance, between PS3 and PS4, I owned Black Flag and with cross-buy upgraded to the PS4 version. However, I was forced to start from the beginning of the game due to the fact they were two separate versions of the same game. Smart Delivery eliminates this and makes for a far more elegant implementation.
