Who's saying that?

Yes, anyone who supports a Universal Basic Income is a communist. They may not support a "true" communist system and would rather have one that is corrupt and still allows them to break the law countless times in ways that would send an ordinary person to prison for life, but they do not support a true "free society" and true captialism. Actually, we don't even have a true capitalistic system in the USA. We have a corrupt system where the government gives massive subsidies and bailouts to massive corporations and allows them to break the law with impunity. You can't have programs like Medicare, Social Security (a massive scam), and others and call yourself a captialistic society. Instead, you are a mixture of the worst parts of several different systems. But the powers that be would love for the US to go even more communist (not a mythical communist system in which everyone is treated perfectly and fairly by a saintly benevolent dictator who really cares about this people) so they can have more control to make sure the CEOs of this country keep making billions in annual income while their ordinary workers make almost nothing. Take healthcare for example. We don't need more government involvement. Instead, prices need to be posted publicly on billboards (just like McDonalds) so people will know UP FRONT if they are going to be GOUGED and made to pay six hundred dollars for a bag of saline or ten dollars for two aspirin or thousands of dollars for a night of observation. More government is NEVER the answer.

So am I doing the math right? The global mortality rate just ticked over 4% and Italy is almost topping 8%?

It’s all about how well the hospitals are coping. People sick with this virus have a very low chance of dying outright. The chances shoot up if they’re in a place where the medics are overwhelmed.

Low figures when manageable, higher figures when unmanageable. The big problem is the deaths from people in unmanageable situations continues to go up.

I suspect the vast majority that die will do so because of a lack of resources. It’s like crowds of people continuously rushing into a burning skyscraper, and there’s not enough people to put out the fire.

I just saw an interview with Donovan Mitchell (Utah Jazz) who is currently in quarantine at home. He says he has ZERO symptoms...like none. He says if he was told he had to start a 7 game series tomorrow, he could.

Take away from that whatever you want. I have a feeling there are going to be a ton of carriers that wont ever realize that they were carriers.

Yeah, I've actually been one to shy away from the numbers game but its difficult to do so sometimes. I know there are a ton of variables at play that we wont fully understand until this thing is "over"

It's how Italians live, and European's in general, they basically live on top of each other in close quarter style apartments and they're very touchy touchy when they greet. It make it much easier to spread.
it's only because in Italy doctors are testing people without charging a fee and they do not perform testing just on critical cases...

Dutch government is going to dive deep into their pockets. every business can get for up to 3 month 90% of there personal cost paid so there are no layoffs. This is for small company's of 2 men big and massive company's so it covers everybody. Single workers that have a company by itself get wellfare for next 3 months that doesn't need to be paid back.

Tax goes down for all taxes involving businesses to practically 0%, can delay payments, no fines or any issue's afterwards.

This will uphold for 3 months, and will be extended if needed.

Yeah, I feel an infographic that cross references a region's mortality rate vs their healthcare capacity over time would be illuminating.

French prime minister says UK must up its coronavirus quarantine measures
French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe has warned the UK must up its coronavirus quarantine measures, in a further sign that some

European leaders are uneasy with the UK’s approach to reducing the spread of virus.
Speaking on French state TV channel France 2, Philippe said: “There are confinements in Italy, in Spain. But for instance, if the UK continues not to apply any measures, we will find it difficult to accept British nationals on our territory.”

His comments came after European Council President Charles Michel announced EU member states had agreed to reinforce EU external borders by applying a coordinated temporary restriction of non-essential travel to the EU for a period of 30 days. The ban applies to people traveling into Europe from countries that are not part of European Union, the EFTA (European Free Trade Association) area, or the UK. The UK currently still has freedom of movement within the EU until the end of the Brexit transition period.

However, under EU law, EU citizens or members of their family may be expelled from the host Member State on grounds of public policy, public security or public health.
“The President has fought hard with the European authorities to make a coherent response possible,” Philippe told France 2. “On the issue of containment, it may make sense to do sanitary border control. Closing borders completely also means making it more complicated to get the products we need.
“It is not illegitimate to re-establish health controls at borders. We must ensure that entry into the European area is controlled,” Philippe added.

Mr. Community
Hospital Life Update: Cases jumped and we had to open another isolation area. Even our other sites that don't have Emergency support are being setup to triage, test and get them where they need to go. We do have the ability to do tests with 2 hour per stage results. So we should start getting some better numbers in the area.

Staff is being closely monitored down to the smallest sniffles. 14 day quarantine or remote work if possible. If site staff gets too low we will all be shifted around to make sure support for patients don't drop. CDC also recommended today basic surgical masks be worn at all time even if they are not N95 masks.

Visitation from guests is being limited unless there are certain scenarios. I am waiting to see if all visitation is stopped in larger campuses to stop the spread.

We are expecting a full surge in the next few days.

Hold tight there. Feel free to chat up to vent.

What you're doing matters.

As of March 16, the People’s Republic of China, where the coronavirus originated, had more than 80,880 diagnosed cases and close to 3,213 deaths. The Republic of China on Taiwan had 67 cases and one death.

Taiwan has treated the pandemic decisively. China has treated it ideologically, as one would expect from a totalitarian state.

On December 31st, China told the World Health Organization that it had several cases of pneumonia. On the same day, Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control began monitoring passengers who arrived from Wuhan. (The 2003 SARS epidemic made it skeptical of health data from China). Taiwan screened these passengers for 36 viruses. On January 26, it banned flights from Wuhan, making it the first country to do so.

Taiwan instituted 124 safety protocols for the virus. It distributed 6.5 million masks to primary and secondary schools, along with 84,000 liters of hand sanitizer and 25,000 forehead thermometers. Public and private buildings screened entrants for signs of fever. Apartment buildings have hand sanitizers in or near elevators.

After China finally admitted that it had a problem, it took another month for researchers from other countries to get in.

What if CCP wasn't able to strong arm the WHO to fuck over Taiwan?

While China has been ineffective at combating the coronavirus within its borders, it has been highly successful at isolating Taiwankeeping it out of international agencies where its expertise might make a difference, and where the citizens of Taiwan would benefit from international cooperation.

Beijing continues to block Taiwan from membership in the World Health Organization and WHO’s decision-making body, the World Health Assembly.
Even Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (hardly an anti-communist) and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have called for Taiwan’s admission to WHO.

Thanks to China, Taiwan has not been allowed to attend either of the WHO emergency meetings on the coronavirus. It also won’t permit Taiwan to receive updated information from the International Civil Aviation Organization, thus excluding a nation with one of the world’s busiest international travel hubs.

WHO Director General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has become a cheerleader for Beijing. He has praised China’s handling of the crisis, even when the country was denying human to human transmissibility of the virus and arresting physicians for “spreading rumors.”

Lucky that Taiwan is competent and has no deaths.

Imagine if the CCP was able to get Italy, or the US or the country you live in blocked from the WHO, blocked form getting help and information about the virus.

Agreed. I’d also like to see more details about how many infected have to be hospitalised.

Unfortunately we’d have to test anyone with mild symptoms, and that still wouldn’t provide a true figure. I’ve had an occasional rough cough since Friday but have no idea if I’ve got it because the UK won’t test unless you’re already hospitalised or Idris Elba.

Sounds like work is instituting furloughs which is going to suck ass, have a cash buffer for 2 months but damn when the mortgage companies offer payment deferral and skip payments I'm going to jump on it.
Pain in the ass because I'm capable of working from home, I'm actually more productive there anyway but because the company stock has taken a shit kicking I suspect they're instituting cost savings early.

Damn... I pre-ordered Animal Crossing (2 of them - 1 for me and 1 for my daughter) on Amazon to weather the Corona Virus...
Hope they'll deliver on time... as it's really really essential for me and I'm sure for a lot of other gamers... LOL.

I said it before but we SHOULD BE CREATING A STIGMA.
I go back and forth on this. While there is nothing racist with calling it the China Virus, it is not responsible because it could and will lead to racism. Kung Flu? Chinese people eat anything with a head. Cmon. Not all Chinese people are responsible for this. In South Florida, some people eat iguanas and alligators. Do all Americans fancy themselves some alligator ribs and a mean iguana curry? In Canada, some people eat bull testicles.

Sure the Chinese government has a role in this. At the very least, we shouldn't be doing this at the moment. There will be plenty of time for finger pointing later. Let's work together to get through this.

Right! Who's Amazon to say what is and isn't essential for each household.

UK police may detain "infectious" persons under new coronavirus "emergency bill" proposals
From CNN's Mia Alberti in Lisbon

Proposed emergency legislation to tackle coronavirus in the UK will allow police and immigration officials to detain a person who is, or might be "infectious," according to the government’s website.
“Public support and compliance is crucial and we are grateful for the flexibility people have shown, but we need to ensure police and immigration officers have the authority to enforce these measures where necessary. Therefore, the bill will enable the police and immigration officers to detain a person, for a limited period, who is, or may be, infectious and to take them to a suitable place to enable screening and assessment,” an outline of the "coronavirus bill" on the UK government websites said.
This is a step up from the March 3 government guidelines in which authorities could only detain those not respecting mandated quarantines. The bill will also enable UK Border Force to temporarily suspend operations at airports or transport hubs "if there are insufficient resources to maintain border security."

Gambia announced its first confirmed coronavirus case in a short tweet from the Health Ministry.
The ministry did not provide additional details only stating more information will be released at another time.

I have a hard time believing you're real :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I'm absolutely real. I have very unique opinions. You see, I used to be a libertarian until the party was taken over by neocons. Then I became a Ron Paul supporter. Now, I'm even more nuanced because I realize the situation is far more complicated than just left and right. I support using advanced technology to create a post scarcity society where a small amount of "work" would be worth a fortune. For example, a family member of mine remembers fifty years ago when she was able to pay for a small apartment, utilities, and food with a part time, minimum wage job - without getting any "benefits" at all. She told me there were many such studio apartments around at the time that cost guess what: around twenty five or thirty dollars a week! Now, the value of the dollar has went down dramatically and people have to pay five times that for the cheapest place to live while food costs have went up as well! We live in a twisted society where the ultra elites are making MORE THAN EVER compared to the entry level employee that works at their businesses. I don't want government intervention or a higher minimum wage but for a combination of emerging technologies to help and PEOPLE to get organized and protest. Businesses need to learn that they can't get away with paying slave wages to ordinary workers while their CEOs make MILLIONS and MILLIONS.

Also, apparently Kansas just canceled school for the rest of this school year.

Other states to follow? That would be huge.. I am mostly working from home because of the kids.

Wow... the rest of the year? That's pretty crazy, but might be necessary...

This is an interesting observation about how the recorded numbers play out when we have two different approaches to testing: testing only those who are sick vs, testing everyone. Like I keep saying, it's hard to do math on this virus until we get better numbers.

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Had to make a run to Walmart pharmacy to get the rest of my meds. Fwiw my psychiatrist prescribed 3 months worth so I won't have to see her again until then.

If by SJW's you mean Republicans, then... yeah:

Good.

Hell I totally agree with Yang.

But the difference with Trump's proposal here is not everyone will be getting the neet bux. Yang wanted EVERYONE to get it.

I'm not going to pass it up right now. People can look down ob me all they want but I need that UBI rn considering both my personal situation and national crisis.

Can you get this shit from the mail? I got a package from the UK today and I might already be dead.

It should be fully denatured in 2-3 days, but it may be uninfectious well before then.

Basically all surfaces that have biological contact have proteins called RNases on them that chew up RNA. This is due to these proteins being nature's response to simple RNA viruses and other pathogens.
It is likely that the Wu Flu is degraded to the point that it is not infectious well before all trace has been eliminated.

How have patients been responding to the treatments? Are moderate cases improving?
