Well, that what I was thinking, different versions/revisions. We tend to get PS4/PS4 Pro a month or weeks after US release, so we might be getting the 2nd wave? Not sure. Never cleaned a console before, only had the laser problem ones with PS1 but because of pirated games (I'm a changed man and don't approve piracy🙏😁).
Funnily it was the first PS4 Pro revision which was reported to be extremely loud and it was fixed with the second one. Don't kow the exact rev-number. :D
Of course it also depends on the environment and use, but there is no doubt the PS4 and PS4 Pro fan aren't the best. :messenger_beaming:

Has there been leaked pictures of the Xbox devkit?

I don't even think we've heard even the slightest queef about what the Xbox Dev kit is like. Can only assume it's just a basic pc tower with target specs to work to? Then later on they will start dishing out kits that are close to the retail box

That's a bit weird. For a company that is so quick to share stuff like the APU and the actual design, it seems that they have the most up their sleeves. Even though it wouldn't make any sense based on leaks, it would be genius if the devkits are actually Lockhart 😂

Yeah I was thinking that before, really weird nobody has leaked it yet. But it might be totally locked down with nda's that it's just not worth the risk.

So we wouldn't be hearing PS5 until June right around E3, with Sony holding a separate event in NYC right after the MS E3 show? Plausible?
Nope. They'll do a reveal event with more information on the system specs and OS beforehand. I said the same in a Microsoft topic. You can't do everything in 1 show. You can't show your launch line up, gameplay videos, dev talks, etc. as well as a whole system analysis, new OS and gameplay features in 1 show. They'll split it, and start with the system and OS, and show some extremely slick games, but nothing in depth. Then around E3 another show purely aimed at games.

So when would the first part of the reveal happen?

Doubt they would wait that long. I still think we'll get something in march, April worst case. They were supposed to be giving us little bits of info throughout the year, but we're like 7-8 months away from release? Years gonna fly in once they start to open these floodgates

April or May seems most likely. The longer you wait the less possibility there is for your competitor to make changes to their system. Last time it was the end of May for Xbox, I do hope we get it sooner this time.

Hmm, late to the party.

As was said in the other thread, the older xboxes did a lot more with audio than PlayStation did before. This seems a lot more dedicated and in line with what playstation 5 has.

As for being late to the party, I actually think they have likely had this for a while, but it’s a simple thing that can be talked about that won’t spoil the actual spec reveal.

It is quite telling that so many leaks failed to mention this... funny that..,

Yeah apparently someone from Sony said they will handle the reveal of PS5 the same as PS4. Whatever that means....

They did not. They said they will handle guidance the same way as they did with PS4. Guidance is sales forecast for the next fiscal year. If you look back at 2013, then Sony updated their guidance to reflect PS4 sales for the fiscal year in September 2013. So by saying that they handle it comparable, that is what you can expect. Sometime in September, when they know the amount of consoles they can produce and the amount of consoles that are preordered, they will update their guidance. It says absolutely nothing about the reveal of PS5.

As was said in the other thread, the older xboxes did a lot more with audio than PlayStation did before. This seems a lot more dedicated and in line with what playstation 5 has.

Yeah, Xbox has had dedicated audio chips since the very first console they made. 3D Audio some years ago with Dolby Atmos support.

To be fair no developer will know about audio chips . We know about ps5 audio chip cause Sony talked about it and not leaks . WhenMS talks about xsx they will talk about that as well

I think the design they revealed at the VGAs is both the devkit design and the retail design. The whole point why they revealed it is because they started shipping devkits in November and it would've leaked at one point, so they just showed it themselves.

Who said that?
If so, in the same way he means an event to talk about specs, games, but not showing the PS5 box, just like PS4.

No, because the game press is in LA at that time and won't just fly over across the US for an hour long Sony event and then back for E3. They couldn't even plan it if they are indeed waiting for Xbox pricing - what if Microsoft plans to reveal the console in May, the games in June, the pricing in July, with preorders starting at Gamescom in August? Sony would have to announce an event at least two weeks in advance, so if Microsoft shows everything at E3, you are looking at a PS5 reveal early July.

It definitely won't be March, though. Because that all is based on GDC leaks. But guess what: PS5 devkits were out during last year's GDC already. So why should now leak what didn't leak back then?

I believe the 3D audio chip mentioned by Sony is a completely different beast, though. To me it sounds like a ray traced audio solution for lifelike reflections and effects (think of caves for adventure games and footsteps for shooters). So a very different audio chip then the "3D" audio chips that handle Atmos or other formats.

Am I the only person that has a game collection that consists of mostly 3rd party games?

That’s personally why I favor the most powerful hardware.

I know you asked a rhetorical question bcus most ppl do own more third party games (must be using common sense) but most my time is spent on exclusives with a dabble of third party. Tht might be your issue if you game on Xbox, on PS4 we don't have tht issue to rely on third parties. Case in point last few months I've spent on Days gone with a little of COD. Next I'll finish my backlog of Detroit. Bloodborne I always go back to, GoW have to finish killing all the valkyries etc...

If a system doesn't have exclusives tht resonate with me in the end idgaf which system I buy bcus there won't be big differences (at least to me) between third parties. There's always a game or two thts a system seller for me with ps4 it's actually more than one game or two. If for example Microsoft bought from software and all their exclusives became exclusive to Xbox I'd have to buy an Xbox.

Why the reliance in third party so much when all the systems will have tht same game.

Nope, most gamers play multiplatform games mostly, but at the same time because they sometimes play a first party game, they buy the system that also has an edge here. People value the possibility of a game that they might want to play higher then pure power of the console even though they spend more time with 3rd party games that would benefit from that power.

Why do people think that Microsoft would fully reveal the XSX specs before E3? That would be silly. They might as well save the biggest hype for that expensive venue and presentation that they’ve already booked.

Sony may reveal shortly *after* Xbox, given that they’re so uncertain about pricing.

One would have to believe in the uncertainty to worry about it. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

If Sony goes first, it wouldn't hurt to cover the details they've covered in a separate press event. If Sony stays silent, MS may follow for as long as is reasonable. It's also possible that there might be some things that would start to hit the interwebs before e3. It's always good to set the tone for your product rather than let the rumor-mongers do that for you.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did show the machine and specs before E3, They have a LOT (Killing it) of games to show off.

Again the "killing it" reference. Did in your opinion someone already solved your clue the last time you said this?

Because Spencer has already confirmed that E3 will be all about games, games, games. They have so many games in development that they just announce them all the time at various events (according to Matt Booty, head of Xbox Games Studios).

Remind me if I wrong, but never saw any E3 with specs reveal. Both Microsoft and Sony have their own event for doing so. E3 is more for the 'box design' and the games for that plataform.

either he means many games or he means new killer instinct
He doesn't just mean a lot of games, he is also hinting at one specifically but I don't think it's Killer Instinct. That wouldn't be that special, and he's hinting at a big name.
