That all sounds awesome but the Peter Parker part. It's cool if they want to put a focus in the story or cut scenes but gameplay segments as Peter Parker could be a drag if not handled correctly. I do have faith in Insomniac though.

Bout to watch the closed doors demo :)

You lucky SoB. Can you post impressions afterwards?

This is going to be the GOAT superhero game, even surpassing Arkham City (no Aslyum was not better, City was overall a masterpiece)
The trailer got me seriously considering buying the PS4Pro and a 4K TV - it will probably blow my mind

Miles is a character I'm fairly fond of. My only issue is that as a more casual fan when I hear "Spider Man" I think of Peter Parker. I know superhero identities are basically titles, but to me they don't feel like it. It's more like "Spider Man should always be Peter Parker" and so on.

Stuff like this helps solidify him in my mind as Spider-Man too. I especially like them both existing in the same universe and interacting. That way it feels less like a spider-man story I know nothing about and more like expanding the story I know of. And I know that's a dumb distinction, but that's just how I personally feel about it. So I enjoy what they are apparently doing with the game, especially if we end up with both of them being spider-men.

Like, if it was up to me they'd just go full on Spider Family. Make a team of Spider People, each with a bunch of different issues in their lives and growing up together like the superhero version of Friends.

I like the idea of being Peter, moving around the world, getting in a car, or maybe taxi, being like a GTA game with interiors and experiencing NY. Though if that's a thing, we'll have to see. Going into Spider-Man mode would be like enabling cheats in GTA:SA. Oh boy, need to see more on this Peter - Spider-Man situation.

Sony should just buy insomniac games after The game sells millions.

They tried, they tried.

Whats boring about him?

Miles is awesome, good story, good powers, cool suit, even the movie had to borrow from his story to make young Peter more interesting it seems.

I wonder if part of the game you play as spider man and then mr. negative corrupts him and you move onto Miles

Been saying this since the trailer. Considering at the end Parker is touched by Mr. Negative in his negative form, and as far as I remember, his power was automatic on touch, even through clothes.

For the most neurotic fans, Insomniac assures that the white Spider-Man symbol is meaningful and has a purpose that's explained in game.

It'll turn black when Spidey is Nega-spidey.

I think part of it is that all these mantles are just reset to their originals or most profitable persons eventually. Miles will never become De Facto Spiderman. Jane will not be Thor forever. Eddie is Venom again. Bruce Wayne keeps coming back, despite Terry McGuiness and the bajillion other Bats. Same with Barry Allen as The Flash.

Is that the proper way to go, to keep the suits tied to their originals? I don't know. In some ways, it would be nice to see them take the risk in bringing in a new hero to stand on their own, but on the other it frees the suit from continuity issues where things keep having to be set back in a contrived fashion (One More Day anyone?) to keep the hero in the same mold.

I love when devs use multipliers in regard to open world sizes compared to past titles. It's the most disingenuous thing ever. It might very well be 4 times the size when you take into account density, verticality, etc, but I refuse to believe the Manhattan in Spider-Man will genuinely feel 4-6 times as big as the world in Sunset
Considering how fast Spidey moves, you can kind need that horizontal spread in the map

Not sure why it would be so shocking for the world to be so large

This looks absolutely amazing but if Peter dies halfway through & you have to finish the game as Miles, I'm out.

The only reason they amalgamated Ned Leeds and Ganke is because of the constant reboots. Peter is interesting and has one of the best supporting casts all on his own.

Why even do QTEs if the results will end up the same? Honest question, Ryse did it too and pissed me off as well. "You can do more damage", guy's falling from a building, you won't do more damage than that.
Not killing people is part of the Spiderman fantasy, ie being the hero, etc. Not really about doing more or less damage IMO

Spiderman knocking people off skyscrapers always felt weird in the games that let you do that

I don't care a huge amount for Spiderman but was looking forward to this game because Insomniac are behind it. The gameplay demo was not good but hopefully subsequent demos will show the game off in a better light, it's understandable that this demo was very scripted. Insomniac are mint when it comes to gameplay which is the whole point of playing games, so hope it's a solid play on release.

From the production point of view though, fuck me it looked good. Feels like Sony knew Insomniac would make a good game, Spiderman is popular so they have just given them a blank cheque. The game screams big production values, hoping Insomiac do well out of this game and never make Spiderman again because Marvel characters fucking suck.

I watched the closed door demo on Tuesday and you pretty much saw it during the Sony presser. No additional scenes.

The demo guy did showcase a little of the web swinging while he was climbing the building to get to the next cutscene. It really reminded me of Spiderman 2, which got me pretty hyped.

I was agreeing with you. I'm not saying Peter is boring, but we've seen so much of his story, over and over, well the origin stuff. Miles is different and has a good cast of supporting characters. I don't know much about the other Spider-Man alternates like Gwen, but I'm sure they are just as interesting.

Finally found the part about Spider-Man having animations that save people automatically. It was not in the IGN video like I said, but part of the Kotaku article

You might have noticed that in the press conference demo Spidey never, say, booted a dude off a rooftop and watched in grim satisfaction as he plummeted to an unsavory end. Not only that, he even saved the lives of random goons by slinging them away from certain doom a couple times. Intihar told me Spider-Man will have contingency animations—such as slinging baddies back onto rooftops, rather than letting them fall—that will keep players from killing anyone, even during unpredictable open-world shenanigans.

“It’s certain scenarios we’ve put him in, certain abilities he’ll do during combat to prevent people from dying,” Intihar said. “So whether it’s about deciding where stuff gets placed or how it unfolds, Spider-Man’s not gonna be killing people. That’s not the game we want to make.”

The constant resetting is why I'm only a casual fan of comics at best, to be honest. As a kid I adored the DCAU because it was easy to keep up with and stories had a beginning, middle and an end. Seeing Batman's story progress all the way to Batman Beyond was really neat and kind of sweet in a way.

So I'm generally not a huge fan of "X is Batman now!" because it doesn't feel like it will last so it doesn't really stay with me and if anything it makes the title less defined in my head. Like, "Thor" used to just be a character in my head. I was admittedly still a very casual fan, so I probably missed tons of past times this happened. But the thing about the new Thor happened and I was like "Thor is a title, not a character? I see." And in a weird way I started to be less invested in Thor, even as far as my passing interest went. Same happened to like all other superheroes that had more than one person inherit the title(and that's like a lot of them haha).

I mean end of the day maybe I'm just not the target audience here, and I don't profess to know what's the right way to do things.

I can only speak about my personal preferences, and for me this constant "multiple people have been this secret identity" coupled with resets, retcons, a shared universe containing a thousand other stories and a lack of a proper ending makes getting into the stories just appear like...way more effort than I'm willing to put into them.

So I enjoy movies, cartoon adaptations and games. But the actual comics are generally things I only buy very rarely and go "Welp, that was fun, but...don't want to jump in again."

Makes sense. Even in the comics and cartoons, Spidey is always saving his villains and enemies

Yeah of course, I like the decision. I'm just thinking about how it will work in practice in the heat of combat, and how much of a challenge it will be for the developers to get right, hope they can pull it off and it's varied enough.

This is tied with Wolfenstein II as my most anticipated game. Can't wait. I'm really glad that Insomniac of all teams got this IP. They deserve a huge, gangbusters winner.

I'm real interested in miles' role in the story

Like, is Mr Negative going to be what makes Spider-Man superior? Because I desperately want to see Superior Spider-Man in a game

If Spidey goes Superior then it would be majorly lame if we had to play as someone else.

I don't care if the white stuff on the costume serves a purpose I want it gone. Not a fan of shoehorning Miles in either. Peter segments could be interesting if this is married Peter otherwise I don't give a damn.

How are they shoehorning Miles we don't even know what the fucking plot is yet.

Lol i didnt think you were saying that peter was boring.. I was referring to the other guy that said miles was boring.. Me and you.. both agree with each other

The gameplay demo was not good

Not being an ass or anything, but in what way?
This demo and the E3 2016 trailer pretty much blew people's minds; so I'm genuinely curious as to what you mean.

I don't know if anyone else knows this, as I just found this out today - but the former Lead Animator at Naughty Dog, Mike Yosh is working on the animation for this game! He was the Lead Animator on all of the Uncharted games as well as The Last Of Us; so that's probably why the animation looks so fucking amazazing!!

This dude is total Alan Turing levels of animation brilliance :)

I agree, unless we get a split story with Supeior Peter vs Miles as both Spidermen and their normal selves

If it was a full switch I'd be heartbroken. I want half the game to be everyone asking Peter why the fuck he's talking like a supervillain now

Might be weird but my biggest hope for this game is to be able to change to Peter Parker outside of story missions.

I'd love if you could change from Peter to Spider-Man in real time. Not just some lame missions with Peter, but if I want to walk in normal clothes, ride a bike or drive a car that it is an option

Also does the statement on having diversity in their Spiderman mean that it could be possible to have SpiderGwen as well?

This makes sense and would also then make sense why such a big emphasis is on Spider-Man not killing

Same here :)

Judging by who the Lead Animator is on this project, I imagine the animations for how you would go into and out of - dare I say a phone booth - a car, or anything to transition from Peter Parker to Spider-Man would be jaw-droppingly amazing, to say the least.

I want them to somehow, somewhere, include an " I lost my BALLOOOOOooOoN" reference.

Maybe I'm having brain farts that smell like eggs and cat vomit, but I just can't place the balloon reference - can you explain it to me?

To actually contribute something on topic: I absolutely adored sunset overtrive. ADORED IT. The map was pretty damn huge and a toooon of fun to traverse. The game was also pretty lengthy too, and I never felt like I was wasting time navigating the space.

A map five times that size bodes very very well for this game. I hope the fast travel is riding a taxi, even while in the full suit
