Crackdown 3 (XB/PC, Sumo Digital) E3 Trailer out Nov 7th

Yes, they have. They made that quite clear from the start:

Well, sumbich, they really DID say back in 2015 that destruction was only for multiplayer. I'm wrong, honest apologies. I didn't even google it, just assumed I remembered things right, but I was wrong.

...I guess I should spend more time paying attention to VG_Dave's Twitter feed and not to game publishers' worldwide broadcasts of game presentations.

MP mode is where you'll be able to destroy everything in sight, it wouldn't make sense to try and pair that with the story mode.

Red Faction: Guerrilla made sense to me.
(To be fair, RF had natural limitations in the player's powers and range that the Crackdown superheroes would overcome, plus Crackdown is meant to be played optionally in co-op, so you're right that it wouldn't make sense there.)

Yeah I pretty much figured that every building being destructible would make the game a boring, unplayable mess.

So the single player also gets full destruction when online?

Why in the world did they not show it then? Like, ok, some people are going to be forced to only play it single player, but that's this game's entire hook.

Edit: They mention you can't level buildings in the single player. I think that "VG_Dave" guy is using a really stupid definition of "online co-op" and referring to the MP when talking about 100% destruction.

It doesn't even make sense why they'd restrict the best thing about the game to mp only and not allow it in single player...

Ha, this lame trailer was in a way perfectly on brand for Crackdown.

Will play on my PC because I'm a huge fan. But by the end of the trailer I was kind of in shock... at what I saw.... and not in an eyes bleeding sort of way...

But man, seeing the groups of agents all jumping off a building together... so good. Crackdown is so fuckin' good. I want to hear more about the location and the city. I sorta hope its pacific city.

The city is named New Providence.

An island "paradise" in the grip of corporate psychopaths, gangsters and butchers, New Providence is home to the highly-secretive and exceedingly-sinister TerraNova Worldwide. Built around the smouldering heart of a volcano only recently and mysteriously reignited, this mega-corp is exploiting every resource in the area – material and human – as they prepare for the next phase of their diabolical plan… and brace for the inevitable showdown with The Agency.

Not what the MS Design Director said on Gameslice.

Sounds like it is special single player game mode. 10-minute demo where the goal is to power-up as fast as possible to win prizes.

Wow this interview just angered me. "E3 is all about the campaign" "find out more about the MP at a later date"

This was THE TIME to show the technological advances people were foaming at the mouth for.

Such a tone deaf presentation

So the single player also gets full destruction when online?
Full destruction is online MP only.

Single player is limited (probably non-cloud enhanced) destruction. Baked destruction probably, meaning if you can break it, it will always break the same way.

When, during worldwide broadcasts of game presentations, did they ever mention full destruction being a part of the single player campaign of CD3? After all, VG_Dave was just repeating what the creator of the Crackdown franchise was saying.

No. The campaign doesnt have full destruction online or off. The reason being- the offline mode cant process it.

That's nonsense. If you can't guarantee the player is online, and online is the only way you can access the servers, then it does make sense.

In cd2 I remember the wing suite+jet boots combo being like iron man mixed with flying the dodo in gta3. It was a good system.

I'm sure this have been mentioned, but it looks like a less polished Saints Row 4 (the one with the powers/aliens/cyber simulation). And that game was released on 2013.

The Co-op and the much touted destructibility features better be great.

YouTube interview video said that full destruction didn't fit the narrative of the campaign. Purpose of campaign is to save the city, not destroy it. They specifically state that the full destruction mode is only during multiplayer... Not online campaign.

Somehow this makes me laugh. The Xbox One X, the "world's most powerful console" is still not powerful enough to process full destruction offline. Well, what's the reason I should get your console then? XD

.....have it be an option? Not that hard.

A simple "If user = online then enable cloud based destruction."

They obviously have the ability to turn it on/off so no reason it can't be done, really shooting themselves in the foot by restricting it to mp and not letting single player (if you're online).

It makes perfect sense if you've played a Crackdown game before. How would getting the orbs (which is one of the best things about the games) be a challenge if you've destroyed all the buildings?

Exactly. It's not like it affects gameplay or anything.

Uum it would be way harder as there would be nothing to platform on to reach the orbs.

Shame the trailer was so flaccid like i was expecting through the entire thing like a big ass building destruction scene that was directly caused by the player

This didn't look nearly as stunning as I hoped it would. It looks like Crackdown (luckily not like 2, which looked like ass).

I'm definitely buying it either way for some agility orb collecting, but where was the power of the cloud? The destruction?

I was hoping that the wait for the XBOx reveal was to show that they brought that feature into the box, or how it improves that process at least to free up the servers to task additional units or for anything to be addressed of it.

It really feels like they are putting off the admission that it was a pipedream. How many servers was this going to need to process all this for the thousands/tens of thousands of cocurrent players? On top of all the other online functionality as well.

I'm sorry this is a stupid comment.

If you want a console that can handle crackdowns destruction, you'd be paying way more than 500 bucks.

Not only that but the game has to also work on xb1.

Didnt do much for me personally, plus it looked like they may have changed the original vision of destruction. I did enjoy Terry Crews though for sure.

Calm down everyone it's just single player footage...

They said SP wouldn't have cloud.

you really think a trailer on the main stage at e3 wouldn't feature it's hyped unique selling point predominantly and only use single player footage?

i doubt that. it's gone...probably

Remember that video of the building falling over? What happened to...anything at all like that?

This one:

On second thought, I bet that still exists, just as shown. Today, they were focused on single player, which they confirmed wouldn't have that destruction last year.

I guess my question is how does that level of destruction, beyond being a neat tech demo to justify their 10x more powerful with the cloud advertising, make for a fun game? How do they make that destruction something that feels like an integral part of having fun with Crackdown? What about it will keep my interest beyond the first twenty minutes of playing? This is what they have to prove. Showing some gameplay and how it can make the multiplayer more dynamic would work wonders, but at this point, I'm skeptical.

You'd think they'd still be able to have some cool destruction offline, at least several times the magnitude of Red Faction Guerilla, even on XB1. Because of that early footage, destruction is the first you think of with Crackdown 3, showing nothing, and apparently having nothing in single player is going to disappoint. If the destruction is there and working in multiplayer, at least tease that.

My kid walked in during the footage and asked if it was "the poison soda game." And it kind of seemed like it could have been Sunset Overdrive 2.

edit: I was expecting Crackdown to be a highlight, but it was totally overshadowed by Anthem.

It'll be crazy day when multiiplayer looks significantly better than a campaign mode.

Just look at that gif, hell, go watch the trailer...no-one can argue in good faith that the campaign looks anywhere close to that trailer visually. Ignore the destruction, just look at the visuals, look at the city, look at the artstyle, look at the animation, look how fluid the movement is in comparison.

It looks a generation ahead compared to what they showed from the campaign.

not entirely the same thing but i remember the first medal of honor reboot looking and playing considerably better in multiplayer than singleplayer (although that was pretty okay) due to a difference in engine. i think singleplayer was UE3 and multi was Frostbite.

both are weird situations in that respect

Considering how bad it looks and the fact that they didn't show gameplay, this is going to be rushed to November, it will likely feel unfinished and suck.

Its not a stupid comment when thats what they advertised as the main selling point.

Considering the reaction in this thread, they should have done a live MP demo followed by the trailer.

No it was pretty silly. No console and most PCs could handle that level of destruction.

I dont disagree, but again dont advertise the game as having that feature and leading ppl to expect it.

I'll be honest I have really mixed feelings about this game. The trailer didn't do a whole lot to appeal compared to last year. It didn't even look like 4k.

They weren't kidding when they said it has had troubled development.

The only way they can make GAF love it again is by canceling it.

Holy shit, I just nearly spat my fucking tea out.

No lies detected.

xbox exclusive e3 showing. Gaf, a big meh.

Game cancelled,it was the second coming and microsoft destroyed it

It looked fine, but it did not show any car driving, any big building destruction, nor much building climbing. It may all be there but I missed it in the trailer.
