Is that a black guy in this dude's congregation? I mean, I know video games aren't usually very realistic, but come on.

This isn't the KKK. It is obviously supposed to be a Doomsday cult. And Cults are known for taking in everyone who believes their stuff.

Eh, why do I have the feeling is just another continuation from the same FC3 / FC4 system and mechanics with a little bit of new upgrade stuff same as they did to FC4. Yet, I do like a lot American settings. Last time I played through such settings was Fallout 3 and I always wanted to play more on other games.

I'm glad it's February TBH. So sick of good games clogging Q4.

Also, February winter time in Wisconsin sucks ass, and it'll be nice to sit inside making maps in the editor all day.

Look fantastic visually. Characters really looks great. Love the customizeable player character, very fitting for this type of game. A bit disappointed in it looking to be solely focused on the cult aspect and not general white nationalism, but it's still a great premise with potential.

Really hoping they improved their gameplay loop though and the various collectibles and activities throughout the world. It was very easy to get burnt out in 4 and Primal with how much rather pointless activities there were. They definitely need to go to that next level of open world games as their formula is a bit beyond tired at this point.

I'm sure the game will play well but holy hell does it sound like the wussed out on the story.

I'm not calling your post out specifically, but what were people expecting? The contrast between the cover launching and the trailer going live is a little odd.

Wasn't it obvious they were cult members? The sinner engraving, the church and the last supper imagery all pointed to that.

I guess people assumed this would be an alt-right kill simulator?

Looks like ubisoft has forgotten who is their audience for this game

Mistake
1) Exotic setting
2) Charismatic villain
3) Over the top violence
4) Open World
5) Co-op campaing

I don't know, it seems to me that they really know who their audience is pretty well.

Yes.

it's funny, really because the game is still going to press some members of the alt-right (See!!! Every time they portray America we are wacko religious nuts!!!) and other extremist groups and to be fair fighting against a doomsday cult sounds like an awesome premise all things said.

Beaten to the punch, but, yeah, the Branch Davidians had black members. Since that was my initial impression of what the villains were going to be based on, I never really bought into the idea it was going to be a "TIMELY" game where you primarily go around and kill racists. The fact people are now disappointed about it is kind of funny.

Looks good, real good! Hope they stay strong with these themes and don't water this thing down for all the liberals. Fantastic thematically!

I think two-player co-op is going to compare unfavourably to Wildlands' four player. That game has sold so well, that I imagine that's become the expectation now for Ubi's open-world games.

It's certainly what I was hoping for and it's annoying FC5 doesn't have it. That's understandable given different times/teams/technology, but not ideal.

I'm interested in the story and the setting, but without those two extra players I'm not sure I'm excited about the *game*.

With one of the teasers being filmed near Wolf Point I thought this would look like eastern Montana, the reddest part of the state. I'm honestly kinda disappointed that it looks like western Montana.

Glad to see everyone's catching up lol. That key art spoke volumes. This isn't Jones Town x True Detective the game, it's full on Far Cry with Extremists. Sadly, the teasers were better than the actual game, but what are you gonna do. Far Cry gonna Far Cry.

Customizable protags are a surprise, especially since they've usually given the protags stories. Wouldn't be surprised if AC does the same this year.

In classic Ubisoft fashion, seems like the game co-opts contemporary issues as an aesthetic but then shies away from ever actually engaging with it meaningfully.

That looked great. Too bad it's next year but at least 2018 will seemingly start off strong. That Pastor Jeffreies character is gunna be fun.

Me during a GTA reveal: I wish it would be set outside the US.

Me during the Far Cry 5 reveal: Oh cool, the US setting feels fresh.

Don't know why people are mentioning the Branch Davidians. They spun off from 7th Day Adventists which there are many black believers. Montana has barely over a million people, 0.6 of them being black according to wiki. Montana is also reliable red state. That mix pretty much breeds racism. Its a AAA videogame meant for an international and diverse audience set in the American frontier lands of Montana made by Québécois game developers in a country to the north, of course they are going to mix up the population more but its not realistic in the context of the setting. Doesn't change my hype for this game.

What's with the repeated clips in the trailer? Eh, otherwise not bad but I cannot believe they can make a whole game out of this that I would find believable.

Instead of jumping to conclusions on what makes sense or not, we could always wait till the game comes out and can actually provide reasonable justification via the story that none of us have actually seen yet.

I would because the main premise of the series.

How's it any different than Far cry 3/4? Which also gave development to their protags? You even had sex with someone in Far Cry 3, your gender was relevant. I don't really see the difference. At the very least, they should give you the option to customize the set gender that they choose. I get the main reason why, they like romance stories, which are more difficult to cross genders with.

Man, I already love this game. Love how some people react to this game and exposes them. I even watched some cheesy US-show on cults because of this.

Looks like ubisoft has forgotten who is their audience for this game

Americans who want to shoot foreigners?

Someone did the favour of already posting it:

I cranked the graphics as tall as I could during the Open Beta on PC just before launch, unless they magically introduced more graphic settings than they decided to include with the beta in the release, it's doesn't look much better than that there.

Well they did introduce more settings, the video shows the PS4 version and the PC version has Nvidia gameworks features, but I know what you mean, I was disappointed by the beta as well. Still, like I said, the final version looks fantastic at times and e.g. has regions with a very high vegetation density. It's a very impressive result given the scale of the game.

What saddens me though is that this is still probably gonna be the usual Ubisoft Far Cry type of game. Here is a map, the map is filled with icons or requires you to tediously climb a tower to fill the map with icons, now go and collect all the icons.

I think you just totally put me off this game :(

y'all should be ashamed

That's the mini-trailer before the actual trailer. Pretty much every trailer on YouTube does this now, for when ads pop up and you have five seconds to watch it before pressing skip.

So, if I understand, what saddens you about this Far Cry Game is that it's like a Far Cry Game from the same company that made many games which fit the open world sandbox mission play style in general including those of similar style from the same company this game is made by.

I dunno, maybe I'm just very forgiving. I played the hell out of Mafia III which was extremely repetitive (with amazing gunplay) just for the story. Due to the story, I was so invested in the game that I didn't care how long and repetitive it was.

I'm in.
