Er, yes. It looks spectacular at times and there are few games that come with a similar sense of scale. Actually, Arma is the only other one I can think of right now.

I hope this is good, but it sounds to me like the dev's went to Montana, talked to some local's, got put off by their customs and made a video game exaggerating and vilifying them.
What makes a Far Cry game anyway? The developer in the video (roughly) says "Its something in a story you hear at a bar, that can be realistic." That is so vague, are you telling me your team goes out for drinks and BS's about work? Shocking!
Didn't this franchise used to have a cool map editor, super-powers, hang-gliders and jet skis? Wasn't Far Cry the name of the Project for human mutation? Why do any of these newer games have the Far Cry title if they aren't related?

Slow down dude.

So the gameplay is not going through a major shakeup? That's a bummer but expected. Unfortunately the game doesn't play even a little bit to my desire for virtual tourism like the previous games did and the setting looks as balls to the wall boring as I feared. Actually gave me GTA5 vibes. God I wish they'd gone with one of their more "out there" settings. Also the "create your character" thing isn't a plus for me. I'm not a huge fan of cipher protagonists. I like a bit of personality and drive in my character. Gotta say 'pass' for now.

Also got GTAV vibes from the trailer. Maybe this is the GTAV SP DLC that we never got :)

I'm feeling the trailer vibe, love it. After playing and loving FC1, 3, and skipping 2 and 4, i'm looking forward to 5.

A couple black people in the group of cultists apparently from the trailer, so I guess they aren't going with a white supremacist angle, more so Christian cult.

They have their own holy book and symbols. Christianity won't be mentioned. Ubi isn't going to mess with that.

Videogames serious business

I always wondered where "Far Cry" came from. I remember in the first game you mutated into something for a bit. Talk about a change in direction. Whew.

Rural America as a setting and the first artworks/teasers got me rather hyped, but the trailer did abolutely nothing for me

I guess i'll wait for some gameplay @E3

This looks cool. Too few games pit you against crazy Christian nutjobs (whom I find scary as fuck), should be fun.

I like the setting, but so far it feels like Far Cry 3 reskinned again.

I'll need to see some gameplay before I'll be able to have any interest.

If you keep almost everything the same but change the setting you can get away with it.

here is what makes a Far Cry game: you shoot bad guys in a rural setting. it is always ok to shoot these bad guys because you are an outsider and they are all crazy militants of some sort. swap out patronizing ethic tatoos for patronizing American evanglism and you have this. you will still be spending most of the time climbing radio towers and infiltrating shanty towns. only now it means something maaaan (it means bloggers have an angle for additional coverage (cos "political")

I dig the rural setting and idea of a charismatic leader of a cult.

I always like badass preacher characters. I always think of that scene in Brain Dead where the Priest says "I kick arse for the Lord!".

Custom protagonist is almost always preferable to me.

I like most Ubisoft games and don't really care about inevitable downgrades but those screenshots are some of the bulliest bullshots they've done.

Ah there's own thread for the new trailers. I guess I'll add this here too.

Loved Mary May and Jerome Jeffries trailers. Happy about the character focus on these early trailers, it's promising. This is looking to become the first mainline Far Cry I'll buy, only got Blood Dragon so far.

Edit: To OP, there are uncensored versions available for the trailers. I'd suggest changing links to them.

People expecting this in 2017 make me laugh. As if it would come out in the fall when that is Assassins Creed territory. Come on people, seriously?

And any fantasies about gunning down white supremacists have been put to bed. No way racism was going to be explored in FarCry.

Despite the fact that none of the cult have been minorities and out of the revealed characters there is a prominent black character and the protagonist can be black?

Even if it's not explicit in the trailer, it's pretty obviously an element of the cult.

Edit: Didn't notice the church scene fully. Yeah fair enough.

Ubisoft Montreal is leading development, with support from Ubisoft Toronto, Ubisoft Kiev, Ubisoft Shanghai, and Ubisoft Reflections.

If Montreal is leading development here, who's working on AssCreed then?

Sucks it will not be out till next year. Sucks even more that I won't buy it till a sale a few months after release. $79.99 plus tax comes to $91.99 here in Canada. Maybe a full year from now it will be in the $40-$50 range. Maybe amazon.ca will have some good E3 pre-order deals...

The fact that greg gianforte just won Montana after what he did means the setting in Farcry 5 is appropriate. I could see it happening which is disturbing to say the least.

Trailer was rather meh and I'm starting to hate this trademark Ubisoft colorful tasteless graphics design which seems to infect all their games lately but I'll bite. Far Cry is like the last proper single player FPS we have on the market these days.

Yep. This is going to be a goofy, sanitized, Canadian safari that doesn't do anything remotely contentious, and treats live, dangerous politics and culture as a prop for cartoon violence. It's amazing how they make it toothless and tasteless at the same time.

Far Cry 3 was released a month after AC3.
Far Cry 4 was released three days after AC Unity and AC Rogue.

What are you on about?

Ubisoft Montreal are massive in terms of scale.

On another note I always wondered if people who Spell Assassins creed as "AssCreed" chuckle whenever they write it

It is a political topic. Let's not be snarky about it.

It will be releasing near Red Dead 2, so expect a price drop very soon after release.

Since October, Prime gives you 20% off all preorders in Canada so it'd end up being 72.99 after tax. Still not ideal but it's better than the alternative if you don't want to wait for deeper discounts.

It can still be them, Far Cry 3 and 4 lead was Montreal too, and that didnt stop another part of their studio to lead AC Black Flag and AC Unity

Heck, Ubi Montreal has been the lead for multiple AC at the same time even, They are a huuuuge studio

Certainly the most interested I've been in a Far Cry game since Far Cry 3.

Good to see the cretins hoping for Race War: The Game have been disappointed as well. Hopefully it can be extracted from the steaming pile of political proxy war bullshit and discussed on its own merits now.

They need to improve the gameplay in the series for me personally. Feels way too arcadey and I'd love to see an emphasis on better melee too. Something with much more nuance like TLOU for example.

Make the gameplay feel grittier and more real and I might be interested.

I mean look at Molotov's in TLOU - how the graphical effect is (flow of the liquid and how the flames look) as well as the screaming if it burns someone.

Someone did the favour of already posting it:
I cranked the graphics as tall as I could during the Open Beta on PC just before launch, unless they magically introduced more graphic settings than they decided to include with the beta in the release, it's doesn't look much better than that there.

Didn't expect a 2018 release date, honestly.

Either way, the setup and setting have me intrigued. Can't wait to play it.
