WaPo: Trump revealed highly classified information to Russian foreign minister

Trump: "You can't believe the cool stuff they let me have in this job. They let me hold on to the nuclear football. You want to see?"

Kim Jong-un: "Yeah, sure."

"That's it he's done right ? we're done here ? no ? no we're not done and nothing matters ? Okay then "

Will be my go to response any time trump does something like this from now on. Short of actually causing a terrorist attack implicity on US soil or killing someone on live television I think he's going to be stuck there until 2024. :(

good lord dude

I'm not sure I'm following what this guys is saying here. ELI5?

McMaster came out and said that Trump did not disclose the source or methods in how the classified intelligence was gathered that Trump told the ambassador. He did NOT categorically deny that anything classified was discussed. So while classified information was discussed, the sources/methods were not according to McMaster. Not that it makes things much better.

Because it was legal, this won't get him impeached or anything.

Do we need to do another impeachment primer?

The president can be impeached for whatever Congress feels like earns it. "High crimes" literally means 'things that aren't necessarily crimes but are abuses of your high position of power'

Okay. This is still shitty tho

What was McMaster's statement?

He is saying that McMaster's comment to WaPo confirmed that this story is legit, Trump leaked.

https://twitter.com/ZekeJMiller/status/864226501062950912/photo/1 words it better.

Russians: "President Trump, please tell us the location of your nuclear arsenal."
Trump: "I don't think I'm supposed to do that."
R: "Oh, I guess you don't know much about it. I thought you were smart."
T: "Of course I'm smart, winning all the time, you know."
R: "But not smart enough to know this"
T:" Oh I know it alright. I just can't tell you"
R: "Oh, I guess you are small-minded man, then. It's too bad. We were starting to like you."
T: "Ok, fine! I'll prove how smart I am! Here let me show you everything!"

(what's coming next?)

Wonder if McMaster was the source. Y'all gotta keep in mind that he was ordered to his current position; he didn't apply for it.

What U.S. persons were in the room, anyway?

Presidents can essentially declassify intel without repercussion. So this will go nowhere legally, as usual.

The Russians would figure it out. So even if what McMaster says is true, it doesn't matter.

Not after the fact, though. I doubt he was smart enough to do it before hand.

Maybe just sit on the sidelines then if you're not willing to stay informed and engage on the topics that come up. Drive by malaise says more about the poster than the administration at this point.

That's information gathered by a partner who puts said partner's assets at risk?

As long as the GOP is the party of being really fucking comfortable with foreign influence, the United States should be considered a liability, if they weren't already.

I hope Trump rots knowing that he is likely to go down in the history books as one of, if not the worst president in American history.

I imagine he'll go down as the most incompetent unless there's another president I'm not thinking of.

Calm down. I was referring to the fact that Congress won't impeach him because the GOP controls it - and at this point it's going to take blatant, in your face, clear as day treason in order for them to actually impeach him. They've already let him get away with a lot of crap.

Grant was drunk most of the time he was in office. Buchanan sat on his hands and did nothing to prevent the coming Civil War.

But, yeah, Trump should be in the conversation.

Buzzfeed confirms WaPo's report:

"One official noting that 'it’s far worse than what has already been reported.'"
